The drama from the old shop may be gone, but we now have the privilege of watching you build a successful business from the ground up.
exactly .. the drama is not needed or wanted .. prefer watching just the mechanical shenanigans
Would still like to know what he was terminated for.
What a brilliant comment which should inspire our mentor to greater heights!
@@1decksI suspect for being "too" honest regarding making the cost of work and expenses greater than he believed were justified! 🤔🧐
Just needs the doodly-doo sound to fully complete the atmosphere.
Personally, I’ve enjoyed both watching you build your business from the ground up, and also not watching drama. I watch to learn, and you’re a great teacher.
but he is born actor.
Been watching you for about a year and a half Ray, couldn’t care less about the "drama", watching your thought processes as you build up your business, the logical progression of diagnoses, the diy of shop building - all this and more make the channel so interesting. I’ve learned so much from simply watching someone who actually knows how to do stuff and this encourages me to try stuff. I recently split my agricultural tractor in half and replaced the clutch! All the while I was uttering, "come undone now" - "begin extracting procedure" - "it is my will!" And of course - "click!". I particularly enjoy things like you showing us an aftermarket price of a component, explaining the reasoning behind replacing components that I might try to cheap out on because I don’t know any better. If I may make a suggestion? It would be interesting to Lauren’s contribution to the business, just a short explanation of how she spends her time in the office and manages to fit all that in along with looking after the little ones! It’s a great channel Ray, keep it up… Martyn, Canada
She has her own channel, Wife unit.
Rearly
Ray, its a privilege to watch a real Mechanic with humor work on Vehicles.
For me it’s always been about watching a repair being done correctly. Hopefully other mechanics watch and realize how important “attention to detail” is.
Thats why I love it…. Because I came from aviation and can appreciate the repairs done right. Its how all my vehicles are done too
Absolutely not concerned about the drama from the old shop. We're privileged to see an honest mechanic start and grow a new business. Tackling the everyday issues and challenges of working on a wide range of vehicles. It would be nice to get some updates on some of the jobs that have been kind of left in limbo. How about that Mazda? You ever get the drive train out of the donor car? Just keep doing what you're doing and most of us will keep on watching. P.S. I am going to keep hounding you until I see you buy some good Carbide drill bits and a TIG Welder.
Carbide drill bits ? why ? you can’t get most of a car into a pillar drill ! and they will not work for long in a hand held drill.
Maybe you meant Cobalt.
Yes maximum I am entertained why do you think I keep watch😂😂and to fix your back when you get home tonight just get the last word . Yes dear no dear haha😂
@@CrimeVid No not cobalt or even titanium tipped or any of the others. When you want to drill hardened metal you want carbide. In the aircraft industry I often had to drill titanium and monel, two of the hardest metals known, the only thing that will touch them is carbide. A carbide bit will go through a broken bolt or stud like a hot knife through butter. Yes they're expensive but we'll worth the price. My set of jobber bits cast $1,200 US dollars, plus a few extra short bits for tight spaces and use in my 90° angle drill. They're very hard to find but you can even get them for use in Terry drills for really small places. I've watched Ray struggle with high speed steel bits and it's painful to watch knowing a carbide bit would have done the job in a minute or two.
Well, I prefer the present lack of interference in these videos,
I could not care less about clashes of personality in a mechanicing (?) channel. I don’t really see this as a grease opera !
I agree. But Ray has to stop selling snake oil to flush the engines. It destroys the bearings in the engine when the oil gets too thin. Be a master mechanic instead!
The content you're producing is EVEN BETTER than BEFORE. I feel I’m learning more about how to work on my own cars watching these current videos. Thanks for them everyday. Your business is growing more and more each day
Im glad you left the other place. Its been so cool and honestly, inspiring to see you build up your own shop. You are one of the people who inspired me to quit my fulltime job as an employeed mechanic and transition to mechanic and shop owner. Now I run my mobile service company full-time, and my family and I are so much happier because of it. Keep doin you Ray for you and your family. You're doing great.
Have you noticed that Ray’s left hand is the actual MC of the show? Very expressive. I think it deserves its own entry music, like the brake cleaner.
Agreed!!
Hence the flangy band aids from all the work they do! 😂
It reminds me of White Fang in the Soupy Sales show.
Yeah I have noticed that before - I see more of his wedding ring than I do of my wife and that says a lot
@@kjisnot old school!!
Love that there is no drama! The genuine interaction between the personalities in this environment issue is a lot of the reason why I watch. I also feel like I am personally involved in the action, and my understanding and knowledge are increasing with each video. Apprenticeship by proxy! Love your work Ray! ❤
Yes, there is too much drama in life and people are just gobbling it up because it’s on all the history, channel and discovery shows I am personally sick of it. It’s too damn much bullshit. That’s why I love this channel. You are awesome, ray👍👍👍
1/4" fuel line 8" long attached to spark plugs allow for screwing in without cross-threading and/or dropping. Your new business/format is great, go forth young man.
I love the changes to your channel. Some people thrive on drama versus content, the most don't. We just appreciate honest work along with commentary. Hope the rib gets better.
The lack of drama is of no consequence. As a self taught mechanic, I love watching how your brain works. Diagnosing, troubleshooting and always putting integrity first is what makes you an outstanding mechanic. Keep doing you 👍
Yep. I find it helpful working on my stuff knowing that sometimes everybody has to fight with the work a little bit, but always get it solved in the end.
Ray, your videos and content are fine. Probably better now, in my opinion, because we not only get the mechanical stuff, but we get to see the progress of the shop and your business. Which I enjoy, because I'm pulling for you (and wife unit) to succeed. Keep it coming bud
I used to work in a shop which performed lots of machining services (head plaining, block boring, valve work, etc. ). Our local BMW dealers were having trouble with exhaust manifold warping on right hand drive 3 series models, because in RHD speck the manifold was a single 6 port unit unlike LHD where there were 2 separate 3 port units (more space without the steering shaft in the way). They were replacing dozens under warranty often more than once on the same car. At one point they ran out of supply, so to keep their customers on the road they sent us a batch of the warped manifolds to machine flat again, which we did for them. They then discovered that once the manifold had warped and been machined flat again, it did not warp again but was now stable and trouble free, From this point on they stopped fitting new manifolds and had us machine every one for them. Which just goes to show that putting a new part on the same as the faulty one was is not always the best option.
The beauty of cast iron manifolds are they're normally self annealing when they are cast. If they're allowed to cool slowly, they only need to be machined and they shouldn't warp. If someone decided to speed up the process by rapidly cooling the hot castings, the stress induced into the iron will guarantee warping. That's why headers welded onto a rolled steel plate will warp just by looking at them. 😂
Drama in the workplace is gone, good for you to be out of that. I feel privileged to be one of your viewers watching the business start and grow. My only complaint is that you're in Florida and I'm in California and cannot be a customer. Your highest compliments come from your fellow technicians who view your work here. Keep on doing what you're doing, in my opinion. Thank you for your channel here.
Ray I am entertained. I'm currently stuck at home 24/7 due to being aggrophobic due to mental health issues. So your daily videos are helping and entertaining.
Hope you start getting better and some help had a friend with issues love from UK
You can do it. Feel better!
I have same thing, and these videos make me relax. But do not stay home too much, it make mental things harder... Go some place where is ppl, when anxiety goes too bad, stop, just breath, anxiety level goes down, then move again and repeat. In time it helps you to go places with ppl, and its much easier. Staying away ppl is worst thing you can do, believe me, I know.
I have a teen daughter. I don't need, or want, any more drama in my life. You are doing great Ray.
I must thank you for your videos, I am not a mechanic by trade but have done some DIY work on my vehicles in the past. My daughter had an accident recently (she is fine) that from a financial point of view wrote the car off, however with the knowledge I have acquired watching your videos over the last few years I decided to have a go at repairing it myself. Thankfully none of the major support members had been damaged, however the repair still involved replacing the front bumper & crash bar, headlight, side panel, power steering pump and lower control arm & CV joint. With parts sourced from a wrecker (except the control arm) the car looks and drives as good as it did before the accident. Your videos and attitude gave me the confidence to tackle this and I am extremely appreciative for the time you take to not only share what you do, but also explain why.
watching you work while i stall and avoid doing my own work😁
Well thats youtube all the time, but Ray holds a special place in my "Lets waste time" video watching
😂 Same here. It was on my To-Do list to replace balljoints and tie rod ends on the DS of my 2003 Dakota midwest weight reduction pickemup but got a notification Ray had a followup vid. I blame Ray if I don't get my project done today. 🤪
Good day to you, from Scotland 🏴🏴🏴, Ray!
You can't keep everybody happy all the time. Ignore the 'ney sayers', and keep doing what you're doing.
I love watching your content for the repairs and your personality!
If everybody had a best mate like you, the world would be a much happier and friendlier place!
The only downside to your content is that there just isn't enough of it!
So, keep up the good work, Ray. All your real fans are rooting for you!
P.S. hope your ribs are better soon.

I am a "Fix-It" person. If I don't know how to fix something, I read, research, ask others, and then conquer the task.
I am in my sixties and have never called a service person unless the cost of the tools required to complete the repair outweighs the cost of a service person.
Thank you Ray.... I learn a lot of small, minor "Tips & Tricks" that save me time, money, and frustration.
Compared to your videos from your previous job location, you are more relaxed and seem to be having more fun while working.
Quality of life has improved ! Great job Ray and I bet the wife unit is much happier too ! 👍

@@massumking6498 DRAMA! 🤣
Ray, I think I’ve watched almost all your videos by now. What I get out of them is inspiration. I’m a homeowner in a rural area where it is far cheaper to do the work yourself than have someone haul your stuff around or pay a tech to come to your house. I’ve always been handy because my father was. I rarely work on cars, but I do have snowblowers and lawnmowers here and at my mother’s that need my attention almost every year. I’ve expanded my tools carefully from watching you and South Main and picked up a few tricks here and there but mostly it helped with the “I don’t want to tackle that today” motivation and watching you start your own business and expand it has been great to watch. Maybe I should be watching some small engine repair but it’s just not as interesting as cars.
Who needs drama when we can watch satisfying quality diagnosis and repair. Keep it coming!
I've watched your videos for a long time. I prefer watching your new videos from your new shop. (Congratulations by the way on your success in starting your own business). There were to many interruptions where you use to work. Loud music in the background, other mechanics ask to borrow tools or just coming over to bs with you, etc. I watch your videos because I'm interested in the process of fixing a broken part on a car. You explain the process very clearly as your working. You are always upbeat and have a good attitude. You are doing a great job and I will continue to watch.
Good morning Ray! I watch you every morning between 5 and 6 AM California time here. I have been watching you since the old retail days. I don’t want to be entertained I want to be inspired and find another similar analytical approach. The entertainment that you do add makes me smile and it seems to help the information really set in. Keep doing things exactly the way you’re doing them. Thank you so much for giving us so much content. Peace, love and all that kind of hippie stuff to you and your family. Mostly God bless you in the name of Jesus. My name is… Richard
A half hour in, now. No, this is still my favourite channel. I love the cameo “x files” appearances of your little one and Lauren and Troy are nice additions to the channel. Who needs unnecessary drama? The jobs provide plenty of it, already.
Some Ray-isms make me smile every time and are starting to creep into my daily vocabulary. Crane-brainium! Love it. Keep doing what you do.
Eyecrometer has become one of my favorites and I use it at work all the time. I test overhauled engines everyday and work with a few enginerds haha. They usually laugh at that title
Ray, you do not need drama to be entertaining, you're a natural showman.
I swear it ray this video did NOT feel like a 56 min. video! We are so entertained that time flies by and it feels like a 15 min. video. Also "Stupid Couch" had me rolling!!?
Ray, words of wisdom from the voice of experience; NEVER piss off the wife unit just before nighty night time..she has learned from the mother unit how to inflict the most pain and discomfort as possible with the least amount of effort!
Words of wisdom from the voice of hubris; make her sleep on the couch. Don't ever let women gaslight you into thinking you did something wrong.
Love the drama free content Ray, keep up the good work !
The lack of drama only enhances your content in my opinion. Don't miss it one bit.
Also: Don't underestimate when your body is trying to tell you when to reduce the strain, it is not a "crybaby" thing. It is your body trying to tell you that you need to take some care to avoid more pain in the future.
Who so ever wants to "disengage", May do so in an orderly fashion. They have learned all they feel they need to know.
Great job Ray! Still entertaining in my book. Thanks for being you and cranking out content.
They don't need to announce their departure either, this isn't an airport.
The most important question of this episode will add some drama: Why did Ray have to sleep on the couch ? 😇
Because i didnt finish the video but also didnt see him bleed those brakes 😅
I tell ya ray there's is a couple things I miss from your old vids and they're. You joking and giving a fun but hard time to Peter😂. The second has to be the doodly doos for the phone calls 😂😂,so other than that I still enjoy your videos and the info you bring to us.
You know what, drama can happen anywhere, even when you're not looking, so anything you can do to minimize or avoid is a plus. Not to mention, you're building a new life for yourself here and it has it's own rewards being able to watch. Tell the couch to be nice! (or remind it, it can be replaced)
I too noticed the lack of the old drama on the channel but I don't really miss it and I'm glad you're business is doing well!
Don’t miss the drama one bit and the new content is incredible. Building a new business and working on the structure itself and improving it and all the mechanical work; this channel has it all and that’s why it tops my RUclips list. You’re the best!!
No drama needed. Just pure Ray with a sprinkling of the wife unit. All is well.
I have no problem with how you run and narrate the jobs!! I know the pain that your back is in. I fixed state of kansas vehicles working my way thru college and had several days of lower back trouble after I fell 2 stories off a ladder and landed flat on my back. The doc told me not to lift anything for several days but i didnt listen as no work/no pay. It really hurt trying to bubble balance tires and reaching over to set them on the balancer let alone removing and installing on the car. It finally quit hurting after a couple weeks.
Having your own business brings on many stresses that you didnt have before--you seem to be handling them well!!
Ray - your channel has evolved as your working environment has changed. For my money - your channel is just as informative and entertaining as before - but in different ways - building your own shop up from scratch, Troy unit and wife unit add new interest - and of course the repairs you do. Sadly, some folk can't get enough drama - especially if it's in someone else's life. You're better off without it - life can be hard enough without it. Even though I don't know you personally, I'm happy for you. You sound happier, youre more upbeat. Do what makes you happy Sir!!
The only thing I really miss from his retail job are the "doodle doos" from the phone ring, lol. Any chance we can bribe him to get a shop phone installed?
Someone needs to create a RUclips subscriber counter that makes that sound whenever someone subscribes to his channel.
That was iconic
Yes ❤
Have to get wife Unit on our side to get it done.
I like the new x- file music when the small alien show up in the shop.
The only thing I miss from the Retail store days was the phone ringing and your response to that and your the way you called your fellow employee Peter. Otherwise, the content is great and enjoy watching and learning from your channel.
I actually enjoy ur channel more now than before! Being an old mechanic myself with 40 years in service I love to watch you work. The best part of watching is not being responsible for mess ups.. lol
I feel this channel has improved now. The work you are doing is more interesting and your able to follow through with the repair after you diagnose it.
Parts holds/receiving the wrong parts has to be such a pain when you're trying to be efficient with your time.
There is no way the new shop videos are less interesting. Watching you develop your business, work with your family and new employees makes a much better channel. Thank you.
You mentioned in this video that people were not happy with the new content of the videos, I do agree that the content has changed but I think that is best. The content before was for about 60% of people. They take their cars to "cheap"-"affordable" shops. Where now you run your own shop and now have employees. You are now in control of what clients cars you work on. I think for someone that is mechanically minded, I absolutely love the new videos. I can guarantee that we would have never seen you have project jeep in the last period of your videos or work on your own "silvereryrado" in your stall. Keep up the good work and the good content/quality of videos. I love them. Thanks.
Along that same subject I was thinking the other day when I was watching one of your older videos when you were still at the retail shop you sounded like you were fighting your way through the day compared to now where it seems like you're always having a good time no matter what you're up against. Keep up the good work man. 👍
I know the exact pain your talking about!
I'm seventy this year and still doing physical work.
I am truly amazed at what can hurt or strain in the course of just an hour! 😂
Some pains I feel, I'm left thinking...I'm either dying of some terrible affliction or I've just pulled another muscle!
I am not near 70 yet but I feel your pain. I occasionally feel a pain while working on a motor and think "how did that happen??"
@ 76 I feel your pains , after 45 yr tech career ended a decade ago, stay busy fixing folks fun cars at slower pace. Gota keep going.........
I once threw my back out getting up from the toilet.
I threw my back out twisting trying to dump an oil drain pain, atleast when I went to my knees I didn't spill any oil. and after years of working on aircraft my spine and shoulders are full of arthritis from the odd angles of twisting in hell holes, or under instrument panels. And from falling off a scaffold during an engine change, Landed in a sitting position compressing my lower disks.
A person gets to an age, with luck, that something will get strained and not show up until the next day. However cracked or broken ribs are one of the most miserable things that can happen. It seems that every time you will get some kind of cold and every sneeze and cough will double you up.
The old shop's drama was a nice bonus but back then, you were one of the brightest bulbs, getting the more engaging jobs. When you started this shop, you were getting all of the jobs and it was probably hard to find jobs that were good for producing interesting videos. Now, with your helper there, your shop can take on twice the jobs, so there's more to choose from for producing interesting videos. And that shows. I like your style of only narrating while you're doing it, without a lengthy preface and evaluation, but still with all drama as your peaceful shop can possibly offer mixed in.
There's no need to create more artificial drama by for example let the engine come up to operating temp, just before doing an engine job like this.
I like to watch you work! I am a retired master auto mechanic. You do great ,honest work.
I find the ownership of the shop and super attention to detail as an owner, more interesting than drama at a parts cannon shop. LOL Keep doing what you are doing Ray!
Long time viewer, first time poster. The drama has gone, but I find your content so engaging watching you build a successful business, also a big thanks to Wife unit, Castor Troy and your other RUclipsr friends. I see you are a very respected, knowledgeable and competent mechanic, with true mates in the business that are willing to help you out when you get stuck. Keep doing what you're doing, mad respect. 👍
I love watching you work now, it's not sanitized, sterile and canned for mass consumption. It's a bit more raw and authentic, and I'll take raw and authentic over drama any day and twice on Sunday.
I can't hate on the people who miss the drama, because there are a few channels I watch for that reason. But I'm glad the drama has left the building, and that it's your building now. Keep it up, and I'll keep coming back. You might lose the drama-watchers, but you'll pick up more to replace them.
I LIKE YOUR VIDEOS!! i appreciate being able to watch yours and Eric O's videos. I loved being able to do my own mechanical work when I was younger (I stared turning bolts in the mid-50s) and it's good to see that after the diagnosis, the mechanical repairs have not changed!! Keep up the good work! Wishing you a quick recover with the medical issues.
I enjoy the change youve made ray, i actually find myself more engaged in your videos now and also we get to watch build something from the ground up and its an honour, if you got haters your doing something right!!! Keep it up my friend!!
Its way more satisfactory to watch you grow your own busines as a bonus to the daily mechanic videos than to watch some drama....but the Telephone ring I miss though! (Dirudirililooo) 🤣🤣🤣🤣
The world needs more drama agnostic hard working people like yourself.
I’ve learned so much from you.
For that I thank you sir.
I enjoy the honesty shown in these videos. Finding the best solution to problems treating each car like its your own instead of running the bill up on unnecessary repairs that is common in shops. If viewers want drama, there are plenty other scripted videos for that. It was a great move on your part going independent making on site decisions instead of dealing with management types who have limited knowledge of the variables involved in repairs. More places need businesses like yours. Keep it up.
I like these videos more than the retail shop one, but then I ran my own business for twenty years so the issues are pretty familiar. You are much happier these days Ray….
At the other place you did a lot of diagnostic work to get vehicles to pass emissions, now you do a lot of real world real vehicle repairs that extend their usefulness and longevity. That helps people immensely.
I sleep on the couch from Jan to the end of May. The look on the wife units face was priceless. At least she let sleeping dogs lie.
Dont worry about the content Ray. Im enjoying you build a successful business from the ground up, and I dont miss the drama. And the length doesnt bother me. I enjoy my morning coffee at 6am Pacific Time and watch you do work. Im still impressed how much I may attempt on my own truck because your explanations are clear enough to make even my simple mind understand.
Thanks for all you do.
Would’ve been nice to see that you used never-seize on the hardware!!!
With dissimilar metals never-seize is very important!
I love the videos with the commentary!
Haven't seen the frustrated Pliers in what feels like ages @Rainman Ray's Repairs
I wouldn't worry about it dude. I've only ever known you in this format. I think its way better since now we get long form content instead of chopped up footage cuz they didn't want you filming or you couldn't cuz of the shop.
Great content and nice to see your business on the up and working out. Can't wait to see the inside of the shop revamp! That bottom caliper slider on the passenger side was still turning when you hit it with the wrench and didn't look tight. you could see the slider end spinning. Just an observation..
This is a Educational Videos.. No drama needed.
Ray, I appreciate the absence of drama in your videos. As you mentioned, there is enough drama, in everyday life. I watch your videos for entertainment to escape it.
We all know the real reason it's less engaging is the lack of DOODLY DOOOS 😂😂, I watched an old video the other day and thoroughly enjoyed yelling doodly doo. I also watch almost every day after work (I'm a technician for united rentals) and really enjoy your commentary and watching your tactics to overcome certain obstacles and also how calm you remain when frustrated. Keep up the great work Ray!
3:24 did you say that caliper had a lederhosen? So, is that a Bosch part?
Hi Ray are you not going to make the rotors nice and shiny?
So glad to not have the drama! Keep up the good work.
This has to be the most “referenced”, most rambling, most change-of-plan video I have seen from you! Extremely entertaining.
Ray you might want to think changing the master cylinder. It looks like the path when the pedal is released is not allowing the fluid to return to the reservoir and allowing the pads to back off the rotor. This would cause the failure of the hot spots on one side and the grinding down completely of the pads on the other.
One pad wasn't installed it didn't grind down completely, lt was missing. Pay attention "Mr. Armchair"🥴 mechanic.
@@allenb4759 explain why no dripping/draining of brake fluid when the lines were removed. The master cyl reservoir is always open to return because of thermal expansion idiot. btw 50 yrs auto exp hahaha
Yeah NO! Learn how brakes work before giving an opinion.
The insert with the Wife Unit pointing at the couch is hilarious ! And this coming right after your comment of the new Paradyme of not having any drama. Rickky - you have some ESPLAINING to do!!!!!! So your singing is music to our ears !!! The start of something new! To take the place of the PHONE RINGING that use to be quite the thing for us to be ENTERTAINED !
Like I said the other day Ray you will never keep everybody happy all the time.
People looking for drama are obviously watching for the wrong reason.
Most of us out here in comment land love the new shop and watching your business grow along with the odd bit of rambling commentary when your alone🤣🤣.
Keep doing what you do best don’t change for anyone.

You have to take a break sometimes. Even if you don't have a rib problem. It puts things back in perspective. Nice job on the truck. Talking about ribs, throw some baby backs on the BBQ.
The drama from the old shop is gone but now we have Troy drama and his jeeps lol Great job Ray we love y'all
No loss with the drama. I watch the vids to see newer vehicle procedures and appreciate the tech tips. Keep up the good work!
Ray works thru the pain and despite the pain finishes off another great job by an honest skilled mechanic.Just an amazing man who can do it all and a great teacher to all.
Anyone who watched for "Drama" isn't a viewer you needed in the first place. We're here for the commentary, the knowledge and the fact that you upload almost daily. In my opinion this channel and South Main Auto are the best channels for car repair on youtube.
The one singular thing i miss from the retail store, is that iconic, DOODLY DOODLY DOO. But thats literally it, its great to see you doing your own thing and thriving man 🤘
A mechanic of this caliber and integrity is worth his wait in gold. SUBBED!
I enjoy your videos not just for commentary, but also for the knowledge thank you very much
I don't miss the "drama" of dealing with idiots. Good ridance! Your back pain sounds like something I get all the time - a rib has slipped out of place and pokes my in my lung. It's a simple adjustment for a chiropractor. Thanks for the great commentary, you are always fun to watch!
New shop and a peace of mind is key to happiness and success. Save the drama for brake clean action.
If entertainment depends on drama and discord you are so right, there is enough of it in the world without creating it to create a fan base. Your videos have a balance of humor, education and even a personal side that`s easy to absorb. I have said before that I work in a car dealership and could find all the drama I can handle, it`s refreshing to see the other side of this profession without the rough language and wrench throwing. I hope you can always enjoy your work the way you seem to enjoy it now.
