Great video! I am recently retired, at age 51. That makes me a guy who still has enough energy to need something to do, in need of a hobby. So, I took up watch collecting. Now, the US Navy pays my pension, so I am NOT in the Rolex collecting crowd. But that fact makes the hobby way more fun! Anyone can just go out and pay their own personal top dollar for everything, but where is the sport in that? By both necessity and choice, MY hobby is doing the work and finding the hidden gems out there. Most people believe that price and quality have a cause and effect relationship. I know better, because my degree is in marketing, and UI spent my post military career in sales. There are many factors that go into setting price points, and quality is only a minor consideration in those decisions. Every watch I have is superior quality...and none, so far, have cost more that $300. That's the challenge in it! So my sport is finding the watches with superior quality that are NOT insanely expensive. Needless to say, I have every Pagani design Rolex Homage in my collection already. Today, I had honed in and started the decision process between the Kamasu and the Kano. They are very similar watches, one being a bit bigger than the other. The ultimate deciding factor was...the Sapphire crystal on the Kamasu. Every watch in my collection has sapphire, save one. The one exception is the Stuhrling Paul Newman...because I just had to have a Paul Newman (with a Sean Connery nato strap, mind you). I just don't understand it. I am not averse to price, if I find something that I think is better than it's price. I'll pay 5 hundo, or a grand for a collection piece...so long as the quality convinces me that it is worth it. I likes the Kano, but that glass crystal just ruined the whole package on it. For $40.00 more in price, I could have the Kamasu with Sapphire over the dial. To me, that was a no brainer. Anyway, thanks for the video. It is what reminded me to look at the crystal specs and caused me to pick the right piece for me.
9:10 I got the same exact Tudor vibe from Kano. I think it's especially close to Tudor Black Bay Heritage that came a few years ago. the maroon and black bezel ones are very similar to Tudor
Hi guys, I just ordered the Kamasu Green bazel, my intital choice was kano maroon but after this video, I think kamasu is way better just for few features which are, saphire glass and size...looking forward to wear it 😁BTW thanks for the guide, is awesome 👍
just ordered one , the KANO black - seems like a good watch to do daily activities in, have owned 4 mako 1+2's in the past and def love the kano style better :D
I bought the red kamasu back in January from a Japanese distributor since it wasn't released to the US yet. The bracelet is open endlinks so I switched it to a Barton Rubber strap and haven't looked back. I wouldn't think the JDM version is much different. The bracelet is your standard push pins to resize. Beautiful watch for sure.
I really like the black and silver Kamasu! Another excellent video Mark. Thank you very much for taking the time to show all the colors of each version!!!
Just received my Triton from you today. Incredible watch! The bracelet however is a pin and collar so I'd say it's likely these are the same. Thanks again for the A++ service as always Marc. You set the bar very high!
I bought the red dial version and it's really stunning. I don't own the green dial version, but one of my friends picked it up and, although it's a good-looking watch, calling it "green" is a stretch. The dial is a very reflective, deep turquoise/teal -- much closer to blue than green -- and the bezel looks almost black. And this is in bright light. In dim light, the dial and bezel look black. Colorways aside, this is a really nice watch.
I have the 'Blue Kamasu' with rubber straps and can highly recommend it over the Kano, in particular cause of the fact, that it has a sapphire crystal. Bumped into a vice, at my dad's shop, this weekend and although the bezel did take some scratching, the crystal looks as good as new, also a 41 mm-ish watch should be a perfect fit for almost any wrist, with a superior quality finish! Thanks for the overview!
Yes you're right about the Tudor resemblance.... I think it's because of the mat coloured bezel and the big white indecies, that resemble those of the Tudor Pelagos. Great interview as always! 👍
Also: Just an opinion for other amateur collectors out there (and by nature of it being an opinion, you are free to take it or leave it): I never concern myself with the bracelet when deciding on a watch. Bracelets can be replaced. If you find the right watch with the wrong bracelet...buy it! I have a really nice metal Seiko bracelet. It is thick, has screw pins, it is heavy...it feels in your hand like a Rolex Oyster. It will add weight to the watch and give it a nice, quality feel. I bought that bracelet (80 bucks on Amazon) without a watch for it. It sits in my drawer right now, waiting for the right watch for it it to come into my collection. I also have NATO straps in that drawer of just about every color. the really great rubber synthetic that came on my Pagani 007 is in that drawer as well. The NATO straps, the high quality NATO straps, cost about 20 bucks a pop. When I buy a new watch, I walk it over to that drawer...and decide on the spot which of those bands is right for that watch. Trust me, it is almost never the band that came on it. If the watch is right but the band is wrong, buy the watch. Bands are just too easy to change out, and should not be a deciding factor to a collector. Again...just an opinion. Take it or leave it.
Very nice all of them. I am not much for red but that maroon one was beautiful. You know me and Green is like you and Blue. Hearing you call the green one Awsome was music to my ears. If I start save up today I might be able to get the Green one in a few months.
Important Announcement! I own the Orient Kamasu in red and blue. The red dial plays with the light in a way that the blue dial does NOT. I bought the red one first, loved it and then bought a blue one because I thought it would be similar. This is not the case. The blue is nice, but just plain and boring and has nothing of the "spark" that the red one has. Buy the red one, ignore the others!

On the Kamasu the lume pip is what I would call protected now as its set into the bezel insert. Its not sitting above the insert where it can get damaged or yellowed. The other thing is that the hour markers are an off white which match nicely with lots of non-metal straps.

I received my red Kamasu (Dec 2020, ordered direct from Orient USA. With a 15% year end discount, it was $261.80 out the door) and frankly, I'm thrilled with it. It has a truly stunning appearance, the band is robust and the lume is brilliant, well done. After three days of operation, it is running 5 secs fast (+1.6 secs/day). I got into watches too late for the M-Force (which saddens me since I have large wrist). I do like the red bezel Kano but I'm still waffling between the red bezel Kano and the two tone Triton. The decision would be easy if the Kano came with a bracelet option.
Ah, the blue Kamasu looks splendid, and is the perfect size. But I'm waiting for strapcode to make some solid end link bracelets for it. (The mako/ray ones doesn’t fit perfectly according to forums). I’m also hesitant because I had a bad experience with the movement last time (Pretty crap in many aspects actually, but maybe a dud)
Really dig the Kamasu. Top triangle reminds me of Zodiac just a tad. Really like the hands. On the Kano, not crazy about the mismatch in color between indices and hands, but love sapphire on the Kamasu. This is the first image i've seen of the green Kamasu that really catches the dial color and bezel color. You beat the H pout of the Orient site on that regard. Thanks!
I hope so, the SKX013 seems to sell well (I’d imagine but you are in a position to affirm/deny that) so why wouldn’t Seiko give us at least one midsize Orient? The Kamasu & Kano are just different enough that it would make a distinctive, new, (and I think popular) midsize diver. I wonder what’s going on inside Orient that they are steadfastly refusing to produce smaller case watches, I know people are always bemoaning the lack of sub 40mm Bambinos? They have to know people want them and there’s currently an obvious downsizing trend, so what gives? I’m not bitching or moaning there’s so many different watches from so many different brands right now that there’s no excuse for buying something you claim not to like, but I can say beyond a doubt I’d own many more Orient watches right now if they would offer some smaller cases.
Thanks Marc. Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful. Remember, I just asked about the Kano. Both look great. Wish the Kano came with a sapphire crystal. Sweet watches.

I might be in the minority but I think the strong green hue to hands and markers clash with the blue and red dials in a pretty unfortunate way, wish they were whiter. Looks great on the Green and Black dials though, and I think I'll eventually pick up the green.

Great video! For the Kano, anyone know what the difference is between RA-AA0011B19A and RA-AA0011B19B? Only the last letter is different but the ones ending in "B" are much cheaper! Is the model ending in "B" not warrantied in US or something? Not familiar with Orient's model scheme.
Do they make rubber straps for the Kamasu that look more like the crafter blue straps? Sleek, no folds near the watch, potentially in a multitude of colors,
they need to downsize the Kano, throw sapphire and ceramic bezel on it, I'd take one w/the red ring. And I have huge wrists, just hate hip-hopped sized watches.
Too bad you did not carry the LE. I have it and it is beautiful. Even if the crown or crown guard is annoying. Haha. It would have sold very well in yr shop.
More great values from Orient! However, losing the lume pip for a diver is a deal breaker. My favorite time to dive is just at dusk. Under water, it gets dark FAST. Losing the lume pip makes it nearly useless as a dive watch. I want to use my flashlight to see the underwater beauty, not to constantly check my watch.
Damn. I'm agonizing over my next watch purchase. Definitely a diver. 8.25 inch wrist. Considering the black and gold solar tuna. Maybe Digi tuna. Maybe Orient. Really I want a breitling SOH or a Panerai or a fifty fathoms. Not sure what to do.
Damn, can't decide; Black Kamasu, Maroon sun-burst Kamasu, or the 2-Tone on Silicone Kamasu. Well, I've got plenty of dive watches with black dials, I'm not big on IP cases........Maroon it is! Or, maybe all 3? Damn..........
Great Video Mark. Couple of questions. 1. Which do you think looks better on the Kamaso,, Green or Red dial? 2. Can I get that black rubber strap on either of the Kamaso? Thanks

Do they make rubber straps for the Kamasu that look more like the crafter blue straps? Sleek, no folds near the watch, potentially in a multitude of colors,
they need to downsize the Kano, throw sapphire and ceramic bezel on it, I'd take one w/the red ring. And I have huge wrists, just hate hip-hopped sized watches.
idont wantcorporateretaliation 👍
Would be nice to have ceramic bazel.
Too bad you did not carry the LE. I have it and it is beautiful. Even if the crown or crown guard is annoying. Haha. It would have sold very well in yr shop.
Shellfish style bracelet?
It's a joke. A play on oyster.
Bivalve style!
Kano with red bezel is fire!
How much extra is for orient/seiko to source saphire glass vs mineral? 2 bucks? 5 bucks tops?
Add on 10 bucks to the price of kano and have sapphire!
Can u please post a link for a silicon band for the Kamasu?
I want the Red one but looking for a black, silicon band i can wear all day.
I got 3 pcs of Kamasu Limited Edition with No. 0001/2000
I am stuck between the green, red and the golden one.
I will be ordering that maroon Kamasu soon....
Great, thank you!
Wow, at least you actually dive with it :)
Thanks
"So little time so little to do." I think you meant something else lol. The maroon and hunter green are definitely eye catching.
