    Bevin you might be a LEGO GENIUS! Not only did you nicely show how to put the new road set into the MILLS system, but you killed two birds with one stone by also showing how you might be able to cut down cost/hassle for those that might have to do a bricklink or somewhere else order. Green 32x32 plates are cheap($6) and fairly easy to purchase. A lot of ppl have LEGO pieces laying around to create MILLS System framework, but if not you can buy bulk pieces really cheap as you have shown on your previous videos.
    Me in particular will not do the Mills System for my town because I have budget constraints, but maybe I'll do one MILLS plate for a display scene of some sort and buying one set of the new road system.
    I'm really happy you did this video because I was an absolute no on the new road set, but I just maybe change my mind down the road.
    Thanks 😀👍👏

    That's a massive turnaround from your previous views of this set unseen. I agree with you about the little gap lines in the road and it's a shame that you can't get a sold line down the middle using those tiles with the stripe. But to get two MILS road plates from one set seems pretty good going to me. Seems like you're going to have a lot of spare tiles (but you can always use them for sidewalks and pedestrian areas).

    Wow, this is great! Thank you for comparing and providing your feedback.
    The only drawbacks I can see would be for actual street level customization. And what I mean by that is, you will not be able to add words such as slow or thru, white arrows, or even have a train track run through it like you do on that curve in your city. Speaking of curves, I assume that curved roads will be a thing of the past? Also, nice touches such as sewer caps, discolored cement, potholes, and as you mentioned the center lines, will not be able to be placed exactly where you want them because of the large "street" piece. That is a very minor issue because they can still be added, but you are limited to those 2x4 tile areas for customization. Otherwise, the fact that the new road plates can be incorporated into mils is just awesome. And it is an excellent $$$ saver too!

    Wow , this actually looks very very good! Agree with you: they should have given the opportunity to make a solid line!

    • @sambeaumont395
      @sambeaumont395 3 года назад

      If it were to be a solid line you would have a 2 stud wide cut through the middle both horizontally and vertically.
      Sure the line would look okay but the cross part would look weirder than the 2x4 cut outs already do.

    • @sambeaumont395
      @sambeaumont395 3 года назад

      @@BevinsBricksWorld - okay yeah I take that back.
      Fill the line in one direction with the stripe(s), then the two cross sections with the corresponding 2xX plates in same road colour would be better.
      But if the plate is 16x16 that would be 2x7 does that exist?

    • @sambeaumont395
      @sambeaumont395 3 года назад

      @@BevinsBricksWorld I may be completely wrong, but I thought the base plate the roads are built on are 16x16.
      So in a hypothetical plate/tile where you can place a full straight line you would have a cut out of 16x2 in the middle both horizontally and vertically.
      So if you were to fill the 16x2 vertically with your straight line, the horizontal would be split into two 2x7 wouldn’t it?
      Although to be fair you would also have the awkward 1x4s all the way around, perhaps they would also be cut out to for a border.
      In the case of a border, you could then tile the outside with 2x1 and put in the grate style piece for a gutter then you would only need 6x2 tiles.
      Anyway the whole point was that the 2x4 cut outs filled with 2x4 tiles to match the road stick out like a sore thumb. Without full length pieces to the center line I think it would look worse. If you have full length pieces it should look better, as if the road was built in parts or patched.
      The other part is how the new roads are now being included in sets, taking pieces away from the build or adding unnecessary cost.
      On the new house with skate hockey driveway the spot where the car goes sits below the road as it isn’t tiled. Take away the road (I.e. make the 5+ kids use their imagination, would either allow the set to become more affordable or the build could have been made a bit better with additional parts at same cost.
      Overall the mils plates where you have almost full control of the design are still the way to go in my opinion.
      All that being said I am still very curious to see how LEGO will make a corner with this new style (or if they will just ignore it).

    • @sambeaumont395
      @sambeaumont395 3 года назад

      @@BevinsBricksWorld - it’s not over thinking, it is thinking it through.
      The current plate, as is, has four 2x4 and eight 1x4 cut outs, all of which leave awkward gaps around each of the tiles you add in, whether they have lines on them or not.
      Extending both the vertical and horizontal 2x4 cut outs to the edge of the plate to allow the line does not solve this issue completely, using the right sized tiles assuming they exist could eliminate the shorter 2 wide studs gaps that were at the 2 stud ends of each 2x4, which would be a massive improvement aesthetically, but it doesn’t address the 1x4 on the edges hence the border idea.
      At the end of the day I realise why they are making the change to the roading system and/or creating these sets - they just look like a horrible downgrade in my opinion.

    • @witerabid

      I could... but I want to keep the roads as narrow as possible to maximize the space for buildings because I don't have a lot of table space - that's also why I'm building a tram instead of a train - and because especially in the "old town" I want narrow cobblestone streets for the atmosphere. But in the newer part of town there'll be some room to actually use this. And as you showed it could save quite a lot of money in the process. 😁

    Looks great especially for those that don't have a ton of spare parts to make a MILS system. With MILS do you have to raise the modular buildings so that they are higher than the road? One of the complaints I see the most about the new road plates is that the curb would be higher than the modular buildings when built on the supplied base plates but wouldn't the MILS system have this same problem?

    This is great. The plates are a good replacement for the bricks you would otherwise need to get for the road. Would the ramps still connect to a regular base plate?

    These road plates are sweet. How do you attach the road plates though? Just from the bottom to a baseplate? I see your row of solid grey you ran between the while lines on the sides and the road plate but is it just attached by headlamps on the opposite side? The road plate sides themselves are smooth so are they just being attached from the bottom and the side grey row pieces are being held tight by headlamps?

    Bevin, have a big question. I'm attempting to do a 32x32 MILLS setup but with the new road plate set. For the pieces placed on the bottom plate, how is it different from the regular MILLS setup? How many 2x2 square pieces, how many 3x2 rectangle pieces and what kind of pieces do you have underneath the new road plate? Thanks.

    I don’t think we will use them much. They sit too high when using a non-MILS road plate system. Maybe for new MOCs they can be driveways or something. Plus, they just don’t fit the 8 wide Speed Champion cars without doubling them up or extending them one way or another with many parts. At least the current road plate and even your existing MILs roads can fit the 8 wide if necessary.
