There is an offroad technique where you use your foot to quickly and briefly stomp to kick the bike back up. The trick is to do a stomp and retract as quickly back to the peg, put your foot out ahead, stomp and pull it back up before it goes behind. It can definitely sometimes save you, but you must not leave the foot down for more than a split second.
As a newbie, I am constantly of two minds and was recently on the verge of ditching the idea of motorcycling, but thanks to the invaluable instructions you provide on your channel, you keep motivating and persuading me each day to give it a go and explore this new hobby. Thank you for that!
As an instructor I can relate to what you said about people skipping on boots and pants. For most people the helmet is plenty enough for most cases. Until you slide under the bike and your ankle twist ! Great channel !
Some times a small blow to Ur head is enough to take you out of this world . My friend lost his life while his handle was touched by a vehicle and he fell by hitting his head in a slow speed less than 15mph.
Just catching up after a few months. Man, I forgot how subtly hilarious you are. Like, "It gives us the unique opportunity to run over ourselves with our own motorcycle." 😂 Now to finish catching up. Thanks for the amazing lessons, as always. I consider myself pretty solidly intermediate on most of these skills, but still learn much!
Great information! Thank you so much for reminding me that I should always wear my gear. I was starting to get used to only wearing a helmet and gloves when riding as I build up my confidence. But this is a wake up call that I should always wear my gear. Thanks for all your videos!
I have learned so much from all of your videos and become a much better rider and more importantly a safer rider. “Ask me how I know?” as you say 😃 I had my first group ride EVER when I participated with my motorcycle organization this morning and the “Tail Gunner” rider who protects everyone from the rear said I was a very skilled rider and did great. Thank you, Moto Control - I would not be where I am today without you….you’re the best!
Broke my collar bone practicing figure 8s at 5mph. 6-8 weeks of riding time lost! Went out and got stand-alone elbow armor to feel more comfortable falling on my elbow, plus an airbag.
Fell today, thanks to the gear all I have are bruises and a wounded pride. This vid gives me some confidence, falls can't always be avoided but if I take care of myself I'll be ok.
I lost my 750 cornering on black ice, very quick! I still had the handlebars so lay on the side listening to the plastics disintegrating. Important bit - I kept my feet up, knees bent, because the engine was still driving the rear wheel, not many boots would survive that. Damage, bike £1000, me zero.
"I JUST MADE THE SAVE OF THE YEAR" ... Hilarious. That's what I thought just a couple of weeks ago, and no one saw my spectacular 'landing on my feet'. What LUCK !
The twice that I have fallen (slow speed, round tight corners, in the rain, on cheap Chinese tyres) I ended up trying to hold on, and ended up gripping the throttle with my fingertips, and redlining it, with the back wheel trying to overtake me on the ground. Fortunately I got off with minor scuffs to my jacket
Great video tutorial: now, despite always wearing high-end gear; if I could only remember what kind of accident I had where I have zero recall of what precipitated my accident and how I spent two weeks in hospital and two weeks in convalescent hospital but not remember absolutely any of it; then I could learn from any and all mistakes!
Hello, thank you for the video. I was doing some offroad and I put my foot out of the bike during a fall. My foot brokes under the panniers rack. Well, now I know how important it is to to keep the foot on the pegs.
My question regarding drop from low speed or even in absence of speeed is even if we overcame the instinct to use the feet and we remain over the moto, once the moto go down, don't we risk to have the foot and even the leg under it? Or maybe given the position of the foot over the rear break or the gear shift the tip or the side of the foot could scratch the hard surface and so later move.
Another thing that helps is psychical conditioning. It takes some time, but for most people even two or three months of stretching yoga or muscle build up can make a difference. For me yoga classes have paid themselves in recovery time after some falls on which i though i was gonna break something. Also you can start whit some less fall prone exercises so you are nice and warned up when you start to really mess around
That's indeed great advice! You can learn also from other sports, like football, rugby, combat, how to fall in a "controlled" way. The technique is basically to divert straight impact energy into motion energy, by rolling round the length axis of your body or in a salto movement. Being fit and flexible and having a good awareness and control of your posture certainly helps.
Thanks Moto Control! You've provided lots of good tips! I've started biking after a long break and especially the slow riding videos have helped me a lot.
Falling has always been a fear of mine regardless of bicycle or motorcycle. I've been wanting to practice cornering and balance with my ebike so I have skills that I can adapt (rather than completely learning from scratch) once I move onto motorcycle courses so knowing how to handle things when they tumble is wise. 😅
After you get some speed don't do any abrupt movements, especially when leaning, and go slow enough to anticipate road conditions in an unfamiliar place and you'll be fine.
So funny story, coming to the hospital today my bike just slid from under me when entering the parking space for bikes and motorcycles, as I was giving a wide berth for a cyclist. The floor transitions from asphalt to concrete (smooth finish), that by itself or coupled with rain isn't a big problem, but I guess adding bird droppings (of the swallow variety, damn you V tailed beasts) did prove a challenge. Wearing gear does make a lot o difference, padding and knee protection did its job 👍 So I could just get up, not hurt, assess the situation and move on. The bike is fine, it was such a slow speed incident, I was more worried they woul charge me for the scar left on the floor😅
My bike just slipped today over some oil on the road. I ended up with friction burns on the shoulder and a hit on the hip (luckily just that). I hope I had full protective gear on. Do use it, guys!
I was looking at this video, hoping it would be more educational in the event of a crash. Just experienced my first hit and run on my bike last Wednesday. Banged up my knee was trying to look up on RUclips ways to fall better lol.
Lucky for you, i have fractured 3 bones from falls. My ribs, right radius and ulnar. But I am mostly still ok. I think Keanu Reeves had a very major accident that resulted in a nasty abdominal wound that almost ended his life.
As an expert on crashing bikes I just want to add that crash/engine bars protect your engine not the rider in fact the Hurt report found crash bars cause and inordinately high amount of serious leg injuries and also caused crashes in high lean angles from hitting the road and either picking the front wheel off the ground ot hitting a crack in the pavement. Worry about your legs not not you engine.Conversely sliders protect both your legs and the bike in a slide. I had 10" sliders CNC ed and they have saved both my legs and my fairings many times.
The first thing I learned how to do in Korean Martial Arts class was fall down. You start out on nice soft mats, but the same techniques work on concrete. Pressure = Force/Area. You lower the pressure by increase the area of contact. You slap the ground with your forearm, from elbow to hand, rather than sticking out your hand when falling. Same with other parts of the body. Maybe we could get Michelle Yeoh to throw you around for a while to demonstrate.
what to do when front wheel slips??? I have recently started trail and off road biking, I have found out that it highly depends on 1. wetness of the road 2. front wheel braking 3. degree of which you turn the bike, all 3 at the same time will def cause slipping, how to land when this happens? does using a higher quality tire help prevent this?
I invested in a pair of leather underwear for protection. I am getting a bit self conscious though because people keep laughing at me at red lights when the see me riding in just my underwear. I say it is for protection, but the still laugh.
Want to be safe on a motorbike? Don't ride. I rode many miles over 40 plus years, and had my fair share of close calls. In at least half of those cases it was good luck, not my riding skills, that prevented serious injury. Unless you are willing to wear ALL the safety gear ALL the time, constantly practice and improve your riding skills, stay within posted speed limits, and NEVER ride drunk or stoned, you are at very high risk of injury or death on a motorbike . . . and even then the statistics are not in your favor. So don't let anyone fool you. Motorbikes are, and always will be, very dangerous, even if you follow this advice to the letter. Good luck!
at 3:52 it says it is useless to try to catch the bike with our feet. Do you have a video explaining how we should do it without our foot please? nevermind, it's at 6:00 haha
@MotoControlEn thank you this really helped with me understanding the clutch more.. But my biggest worry now is that if I do stall, I'm only 5ft so on my own bike I do have to tiptoe the bike and now I'm scared if I do how do I fall with it as I don't want another knee injury. I tried to jump out from the bike last time and the bike hit my knee
@@katiescarth1785 Knee injury sucks, I hope you get well soon! Regarding your balance - you can balance the bike even without touching the ground, you don't need to be tall. Here are a couple of videos on that subject: ruclips.net/video/HBpicsDHjTg/видео.html and ruclips.net/video/TpRYkj_1vFY/видео.html Once you understand and master this stuff - you will ride anything you want, even the tallest bikes. At first you can practice the "slow race" ruclips.net/video/d3GRMQE3ojU/видео.html , it is pretty easy and helps a great deal with balance.
Is it just me that is more scared of damaging the bike than damaging myself? That is the reason I don't do those manoeuvres, I'm too worried I drop the bike 😢.

Stomp as in stomp the ground?
During the previous winter, I confirmed that works when my supermoto's front tyre slipped as it went over a drain cover in a roundabout.
@@KristianKumpula yes drain hole covers/manholes are lethal in wet conditions
@@pmacc3557 Even more so when they're covered in snow so that you can't even see them.
@@KristianKumpulaThis is why I won't ride my bike in Canadian winter... and also because it's a naked bike 😂

Commuting and track: air bag vests, getting cheaper; and, yes HOW to fall! So good of you to put this on.
The "not stick your feet out" tip is so true, i could have leaned more, but instincts made me put the foot on the floor and i went to the floor
