The whole video was hilarious, but my favorite line was at 6:36 "Bishop to g5 is definitely the best move here. But Nimzowitsch plays an even better move."
Orion Mohamed You know, I know your account’s been taken over my a bot, but in case the orchestrator of this scam sees this, I’m actually kind of impressed. Using two bots in tandem to support each other is decently creative. Screw you for taking over peoples accounts, but I admire the dedication.
I believe it was Laskers Manual of Chess where the principle that the threat is often better than the execution came from originally. Lasker was playing Nimzowitch in a tournament and had managed to get Lasker to agree not to smoke his odious brand of cigars during their game. They just get started playing and Lasker pulls out the cigar and puts it in his mouth. Thge outraged Nimzowitch calls over the tournament director, Maroczy I believe and complains that Lasker had agreed not to smoke for their game. Maroczy replies that Lasker is not, in fact, smoking it. "Ahhh but he is theatening to smoke it" counters Nimzowitch, "You are a chess player, you know how he values a threat!"
Haha, I read this ten years ago, when I was spending most of my time at my job browsing the internet. It was published under the name "My Ingenious System" and had hilarious lines like "to an average observer, the e6 pawn may appear weak, but it is, in fact, the strongest pawn on the board. Why is the pawn so strong? Because it is weak."
hey agadmator, Maybe you can put the photos of the 2 players on the left of the board. it can help us which are new to this remember the faces, other than that, keep up the good work, this channel made me like chess
Oh my GOSH, I remember studying this game as a young man but feeling frustrated as I never realized it was a joke. I eventually gave up trying to understand its principles and how overprotection could translate into a good position. I even tried it in many games after that to no use. This was a major frustration as a growing chess player for me and thought I was just forever going to be a worse chess player. It’s. A. Joke.
i had no idea Nimzowitsch was a jokester type, from what I learned in your Capablanca series, where i recall him not being delighted with Cap’s presence due to Aron’s perception that he wasn’t qualified to compete in their tournament, i took him as a very stern character
This one is purely to mock him. Overprotection is his concept, one of his unorthodox idiosyncrasies (he was full of them, which is how he became a pioneer in hypermodern openings) which many scoffed at because they were so out of the contemporary normal that they seemed absurd. As I noted, in some regards he proved to be more correct than his mockers, but in others not so much.
With apologies to Nimzowitsch, here's my system: 1. Lose a pawn in the opening. 2. Fight like crazy until you drop a piece in the middle game. 3. Resign during the endgame. Works every time!
Obviously a great parody by Kmoch! For those who don't know, Nimzovich authored a book entitled "My System" which was massive (almost a thousand pages I think?) as chess books go. Hence the name of Nimzovich's opponent in the parody game "Systemsson".
I really wished you put the nimzo story that went along with the quote, where his opponent puts a cigarette next to the board and nimzo complains saying that the threat is greater than the execution
I'm liking all the recent games, especially ones with the French Defense. Would love to see your take on a game where black wins with the French! Thanks for the hard work.
The Immortal Zugzwang Game (notes by Nimzowitsch) White: Friedrich Sämisch Black: Aron Nimzowitsch Opening: Queen's Indian Defense (ECO E17) 1. d4 Nf6 2. c4 e6 3. Nf3 b6 4. g3 Bb7 5. Bg2 Be7 Queen's Indian Defense. 6. Nc3 0-0 7. 0-0 d5 8. Ne5 c6 Safeguards the position. 9. cxd5?! cxd5 10. Bf4 a6 Protects the outpost station c4, i.e., by ...a6 and ...b5. 11. Rc1 b5 12. Qb3 Nc6 The ghost! With noiseless steps he presses on towards c4. 13. Nxc6 Samisch sacrifices two tempi (exchange of the tempo-eating Knight on e5 for the Knight which is almost undeveloped) merely to be rid of the ghost. 13... Bxc6 14. h3? Qd7 15. Kh2 Nh5 I could have supplied him with as yet a second ghost by ...Qe7 and ...Knight-d7-b6-c4, but I wished to turn my attention to the King's side. [Ed: The author likely meant ...Qb7, as e7 has a bishop on it.] 16. Bd2 f5! 17. Qd1 b4! 18. Nb1 Bb5 19. Rg1 Bd6 20. e4 fxe4! This sacrifice, which has a quite surprising effect, is based upon the following sober calculation: two Pawns and the seventh rank and an enemy Queen's wing which cannot be disentangled - all this for only one piece! 21. Qxh5 Rxf2 22. Qg5 Raf8 23. Kh1 R8f5 24. Qe3 Bd3 25. Rce1 h6!! A brilliant move which announces the Zugzwang. White has not a move left. If, e.g., Kh2 or g4, then R5f3. Black can now make waiting moves with his King, and White must, willy-nilly, eventually throw himself upon the sword. 0-1
There's an old and hilarious book called "Underhanded Chess" that talks about "eccentrisities" of Nimzovich and others, and specifically N's match with Alekhine. Well recommended, for some long-overdue humor in chess.
Lessons to take from My System on the opening: Don't make lots of pawn moves. Develop pieces. Don't get the queen out early. Nimzowitsch in an immortal game: .............
Haven't heard the name 'Hans Kmoch' in a while, will have to look him up and see what he's about. Nimzowitsch was called the Crown Prince of Chess but never the king... Aron could never get the funding to challenge for the title despite being one of the best candidates to challenge for the title, which is pretty sad. Don't know if AN would have been the champion in any case, I don't think he was dynamic enough to take the title from Alekhine, nor solid enough to win it from Capablanca. :P
Its like two people thinking they are ahead of each other. Haha! I was never planning to do this! I was actually doing this! I thought you were going to do that. So I did this! And I knew you thought I was going to think that. So I made this move before you even thought about playing chess with me!
Awesome Game... Hmmmm i have a ques.. It is white to play... Black is ready to give a temple on white's rook.... But at the same time white can also give a temple to black's rook.... Should we prevent the temple or give a temple?...
Nimzowitsch wasn't born in Russia, he was born in Latvia despite it being part of the Russian Empire at that time. Just like people born in Swedish Pomerania weren't born in Sweden or people born in Iceland before 1918 weren't born in Denmark !
Could this story be the motivator behind the scene in sherlock when they have to go to the queen and he's just sitting with watson in the parlament wearing only a bathrobe
The quintessential Nimzowitsch quote occurred during a tournament where he was losing a game to a much inferior opponent. He stood up, swept all the pieces off the board with his hand, pointed to his opponent and exclaimed, “Why? Why must I lose to this idiot?”
Nope. The game is fictional -- hence all the illogical moves on both sides and the exaggerated commentary. Nimzowitsch's colleague invented this game to make fun of Nimzowitsch's idea about chess strategy. For example, Nimzowitsch believed in "overprotecting" pieces. So the fictional game takes that idea to it's absurd conclusion.
The whole video was hilarious, but my favorite line was at 6:36 "Bishop to g5 is definitely the best move here. But Nimzowitsch plays an even better move."
Larsen would be proud!
Even before watching this game, I have to like this observation..
What makes it even better is that g4 was actually a huge blunder
How did agadmator keep a straight face throughout this?
Orion Mohamed You know, I know your account’s been taken over my a bot, but in case the orchestrator of this scam sees this, I’m actually kind of impressed. Using two bots in tandem to support each other is decently creative. Screw you for taking over peoples accounts, but I admire the dedication.
"And now Bg5 is, well, definitely the best move but Nimzowitsch plays an even better move." 😄😄
😂
When did i reply this lmao
Nimzovich is that good
I believe it was Laskers Manual of Chess where the principle that the threat is often better than the execution came from originally. is this whole story some chess fake news level of irony or something ?
hey agadmator,
Maybe you can put the photos of the 2 players on the left of the board. it can help us which are new to this remember the faces,
other than that, keep up the good work, this channel made me like chess
I will change the entire interface, possibly even add the photos of the players, but not before January :)
sounds good !
+Mark Smith It's a secret
Good suggestion!
agadmator's Chess Channel I agree. Seeing the players would be cool
Awseome game, awseome commentary, awseome as always
So funny!
Agadmator you did such a good job of narrating.
I had to stop eating my dinner.
I was laughing too much.
31 People didn't add even more protection to the d5 pawn.
Now it’s 73 people
E 5
"Hello Everyone!" - Signature call! Love it! Thank you for great narration of awesome games! :)
i watched your old videos, they are good too, but today you have one of the best youtube chess channel.
good job!
+Mindia Tsiklauri Thanks Mindia :)
lol

Keep up the good work! I really like how you put the game in context and how you cut to the chase and explain the important moves. Hello everyone!
Rumor has it he's still adding protection to this day.
i had no idea Nimzowitsch was a jokester type, from what I learned in your Capablanca series, where i recall him not being delighted with Cap’s presence due to Aron’s perception that he wasn’t qualified to compete in their tournament, i took him as a very stern character

I never thought a chess game could make me laugh out loud. That abrupt checkmate was a Monty Python style punchline :D
Lmao did not expect checkmate. Aaron nimzowitsch has quickly become my favorite non-gm
Russia: We have Nimzowich!
Denmark: *O u r N i m z o w h i c h*
I love how there are new videos every single day..Keep up the good work agadmator :)
With apologies to Nimzowitsch, here's my system:
1. Lose a pawn in the opening.
2. Fight like crazy until you drop a piece in the middle game.
3. Resign during the endgame.
Works every time!
In moments of doubt call it a gambit

+Omaer Rafiq Me too :)
A very partialistic compilation, Agadmator
I'm liking all the recent games, especially ones with the French Defense. Would love to see your take on a game where black wins with the French! Thanks for the hard work.
I like how this is just information served dry and having a good ass game
Nimzo's writings should be considered as the gospel of hyper modern chess!

The greatest game never played.
I’ve never laughed this hard at any chess game ever, I’m probably waking the neighbors
Nimzo really loves his pawn
There's an old and hilarious book called "Underhanded Chess" that talks about "eccentrisities" of Nimzovich and others, and specifically N's match with Alekhine. Well recommended, for some long-overdue humor in chess.
Been looking for this game!
So funny.
one of the best games i seen
Thanks for the back-story.
Great channel man !!
+Andrew Conneely Thanks Andrew :)
Lessons to take from My System on the opening: Don't make lots of pawn moves. Develop pieces. Don't get the queen out early.
Nimzowitsch in an immortal game: .............
I love your style and backstories lol
+Ibtihaj Khan Thanks :)
Haven't heard the name 'Hans Kmoch' in a while, will have to look him up and see what he's about.

+SuedeStonn It would've been the toughest match for Alekhine, due to Aron's style. Other challengers weren't really a challenge for him
aronian
atosubtitle = our onions
Bruhhh....mind = blown!!
Very interesting, and fun game to watch
Awesome game.....once again
Insan💥 game.
Milan Vidmar vs Aron Nimzowitsch, New York 1927, Bogo-Indian Defence (E11), please show that game sir
Its like two people thinking they are ahead of each other.
Haha! I was never planning to do this! I was actually doing this!
I thought you were going to do that. So I did this!
And I knew you thought I was going to think that. So I made this move before you even thought about playing chess with me!
Very very nice game!!
I've figured it out - Systemsson is really Hoodie Guy.
This game is comedy gold.
"...adding more protection to the e5 pawn"
After Qe7 setting up for a checkmate, why did back respond with gxf3, instead of blocking the queen with the bishop or knight?
Awesome Game... Hmmmm i have a ques.. It is white to play... Black is ready to give a temple on white's rook.... But at the same time white can also give a temple to black's rook.... Should we prevent the temple or give a temple?...

this is more of a comedy genre thing than chess
This game has happened but in a parallel world.
I enjoyed the heck out of this game xD
2.h4
Nimzowitsch was one whole century ahead of alpha zero
I'm confused who is the royalty here , the king or the e5 pawn ?!
My understanding of this game is that you left out of your descriptions the triple and quadrupal "!" on many of white's moves.
Wow this is the most bizarre game I have ever seen. Even though it's a composition
It's obvious the game is very old, as castling wasn't yet a chess rule.
Hey Agadmator!!!!I love all ur videos..But can u make a video of cut throat game between Anand vs. Carlsen
The name Systemsson is also composed.
#suggestion
Alekhine vs Nimzowitsch 1930 San Remo
The first instance of Alekhine's gun
Agad great video. Loved it. By the way I think you missed a spot while you were shaving.
at 5:46 why not R×a2 by black...i mean what was the threat by white? and why did black play Ke7?
That's quite a great game for basically being a shitpost. Great prank and a fun game.
hahaha chess shitpost?
Nice game!
I'm slightly confused, so this game never happened?
It's not the same without the moustache dude. Please bring it back on.
Very funny game
Funnier when you said he is copying
Like doubling up rook
I was literally rolling on ground..😂😂😂😂
This is the funniest game i’ve seen
Well who was the game played by then? Or did this game never actually happen and was made up entirely?
Or did I miss something?
WarcraftHD its not a real game, a friend of nimzo composed this as a joke
Could this story be the motivator behind the scene in sherlock when they have to go to the queen and he's just sitting with watson in the parlament wearing only a bathrobe
I was laughing so much about the comments and position that I had a stomach ache :D
The quintessential Nimzowitsch quote occurred during a tournament where he was losing a game to a much inferior opponent. He stood up, swept all the pieces off the board with his hand, pointed to his opponent and exclaimed, “Why? Why must I lose to this idiot?”
wait, what if after g4 black doesn't take and just goes Rec8? Isn't black winning?
I would love to see two chess masters play the game really bad chess against each other. Probably not going to happen tho
theamazinglandshark I like that game! I wonder if it is helping me play chess better or worse.
Whatever you play, theres some sort of nimzowitsch in the name of the variation.
5:40 why not rook take A2 pawn to open up the A file?
1:10 hahahahaha this nimzo guy is a savage
Beautiful mating scenario
Daaamn the quote
1:59 Aaron vs who? Please
This was indeed damn funny XD Just why would you make such moves XD
werr kowalski my System - A.Nimzowitsch
So this game never happened ? Maybe I missed the backstory , can someone explain ?
why dont black attack on the queem side? since the king is trapped open on the queen side
Feels like this game was a kind of a joke between two players knowing each other (if there were two).
Wow every move was a brilliant move! Even if bg5 was the best move he found a better move! Hes the father of stockfish!
I can't stop laughing x'D
After Rhe1, Systemsson might have probably been shouting like a madman, “What kind of a joke on this earth is this play, Nimzowitsch!?!?!?!?!?”
Agadmator: is this why they call it the Nimzo-Indian defense? After Nimzowitch?
+onvduuen2 Indeed, ìt is
Duh!!! ; - )
How much protection to E5 pawn?
Nimzowitsch: Yes
Systemsson what a name lol
hahaha "now every piece white has is protecting the e5 pawn"
I thought that chess makes you smarter but after this video I feel really confused
Nice!
I don´t understand, so Nimzowitsch didn´t actually play this game? What do you mean by "Composition"?
How can bg5 be best if nimzo played an even better one(best=better than any other)
What is tge main point to overprotect?
Lmaoooo hilarious story.
What do you mean by: "This game never really happened." ???
it is totally made up
