My goal is generally to finish an Episode without saves and preferably without getting killed, in an entertaining way, so killing a decent amount of the enemies on each stage, getting some secrets, etc.

I recently finished L.A Meltdown, Damn, I'm Good on original hardware and still believe that playing it that way could be considered a SAW trap
