Have to admit, this was one of the best interviews I've seen on RUclips for a long time. Tons of value, straight to the point questions and answers. So refreshing, compared to the usual time-wasting, clickbait nonsense-content, thats out there. Thank you, for this one!
Good for him for calling out Porsches are "boring as hell". Wonderful to hear the emperor's new clothes being called out.
That is very kind thank you for this feedback I will keep striving to bring you more of this. Any guests you'd like to suggest?
@@RobMooreDisruptors Maximillion Cooper. Maybe you could chat with him about: business, building a brand, and cars ofc. If anyone knows, how supercars and hypercars perform in real life situations / on long journeys, it's got to be Mr. Gumball3000!
Carl must be one of the most legitimate voices in the business. His insight, experience, and knowledge are incredible. Honesty and modesty too. Pleasure to hear him talk about his business so openly. One of the best interviews I've seen in years! Thank you Rob and Carl.
To be honest I find them both a bit cheesy spiv - I definitely would not feel comfortable buying a car from Hartley or going into business with the other bloke.
@@skodakid1 I do agree with you. However no denying his insight is quite revealing and his understanding is second to none, The last car I got I swapped for a tractor! Can't see Carl taking that in for part-ex, although saying that it was a Lamborghini hahahaha... Not quite up there with Clarksons but still got a good deal for it.
@@skodakid1 there is genuinely no other reason to say this than envy. ‘I don’t like him but etc’ would be understandable. As he is obviously the real fucking deal. I don’t care what you believe in, he is a fair businessman in pricing etc, and the cars he sells are objectively art. He is essentially an automotive art curator. As for the podcast host… yeah I agree with you 😂
The Hartley family certainly like the sound of their own voices !
@@gunnerlangy But then again don't we all? Its not like he is Shmee... Dirty creep ex banker with a shady past (his car storage and transport business was a total sham prior to his RUclips endeavors, and he put families out on the street during his time as a banker in the City).
"What did you replace the Pagani with?"
"I replaced it with the happiness of my wife and kids"
😂
Do you think he really, ,actually believed that?
@@RobMooreDisruptors It was a funny line when he said it do hehehe.
@@RobMooreDisruptors Actually of COURSE he did…Which is why the rest of the interview made him genuinely relatable!…By your reply to this, I think you misjudged his answer (and therefore character), Rob! 🙄
Looks like someone in the relationship drew a thick red line...and he had NO choice 😅
Can't believe I just spent 2 hours watching one video. Extremely entertaining. Thank you, was awesome.
Thank you for giving your time to this; we put a lot of work into this so I appreciate you sharing this
There are not many 2hr you tube video's I would actually sit through without skipping ahead, but I can honestly say I watched every second of this one and enjoyed it thoroughly, Carl is very engaging to listen to and is obviously very good at what he does for a living, and the story of the 9 year old testifies to this!!
Same it was brilliant
Thank you for investing this time into my channel we put a lot of work into this so I appreciate you giving this kind feedback
Half of these questions we have heard before on the last interview
Honesty is the best policy and its what keeps your viewers watching your content. Knowledge and experience in the industry is one thing but the rapour and intellectual banter is what sells a product and keeps buyers coming back ... I pray one day I am in a position to buy a car from Carl !!
Brilliant interview Rob! I agree with Carl, as it is one of the best interviews I have ever seen. It is impossible to pick a best moment as there were simply too many - both from you and Carl. The rapport you have with Carl was the thing that stood out the most. A masterclass in communication. Thank you.
like this guy alot, everything i hear from him just gives me so much information everytime.
he is good
He's a smooth and honest dealer. True travelling mentality to an honest deal
I just love Carl! He’s such an inspiration to always do better. To be honest Rob, as this was my first video of yours I’ve watched, I at first didn’t like your focus and questioning, but after a while I really started to appreciate you. Watched the whole video through and most definitely a subscriber. Cheers!
Appreciate this balanced feedback, thank you. Any suggestions for guests or improvements please let me know
@@RobMooreDisruptors mabye Jeremy clarkson would be very interesting
He's a deceitful coke addict!
Never thought I would watch a 2 hour video of a car dealer, but Carl is more than that, not just a passionate car connoisseur, but a very well-spoken business man who is absolutely entertaining to listen to. Finally, refreshing someone to speak the truth, I cannot get behind the electric car game, the sound, the smell of exhaust, the shifting of gears, the curves, the exotic looks, and then there were the posters I had on my wall as a kid. What is so refreshing is my kids are the same, my 16-year old daughter, loves the cars from the 60's and 70's, my younger son, he loves the exotics...neither are interested in the 'boring' EVs. I miss the F1 racing sounds from even 10 years ago, electric just does not do it for me, no soul.
Carl is a legend and very likeable. Thank you Rob for a very engaging, entertaining and informative chat
I've never seen either of you before, but will look for you both again. Very entertaining and good content... kept me watching for the full 2 hours. Great stuff!!
Best part of this interview was the having a general talk, laugh, and great questions honestly
Didn't realise how much he loved ferrari and how much he disliked Porsche 911 just because they are too reliable, which is why most people buy them. Agree with everyone else who has commented here about this candid interview, great informative video, please keep them coming
BLIMEY - A likeable, entertaining, decent.... Car salesman!
Great guy.
I will never ever buy an electric car, I don't care if I have to keep my petrol cars till I die
Imagine the lot that will appear on the roads, once the EVs are cheap. Gonna be a nightmare
I’m still on my horse. Progress smrogress.

such a down to earth guy
Crazy right. Like the guy is like what I could have been, never seen a mirror of the possibilities like this. interesting!@@StephanieLister

I’m lucky enough to own my dream car and have done for 20 years (Porsche 930 5 speed). So far it has appreciated 500% and I absolutely love it.
Definitely most enjoyable interview I’ve watched on RUclips in a long while.
Actually sat & watched it all without fast forwarding, unbelievable knowledge about super cars,if 1 day I have the opportunity to buy my dream car an Aston Martin only 1 guy to go
Massive big up to you rob & Carl for a great interview
I am not a car guy anymore, but this interview has given me the inspiration to improve my performance in my own small business.
One of the best interviews I have seen so far. Brilliant. Well Done!
I love listening to Carl , he’s wealthy successful yet keeps his feet on the ground and understands people really well he just makes sense everything he says and he’s completely right, electric cars are not for car enthusiasts 😂😂👍👍
The best bit was Bugatti asking £9k + VAT for a switch. I have saved millions by learning and doing the maintenance myself plus designing and creating new parts that were an improvement on the manufacturers.
Being Neurodivergent I have had to do all the problem-solving in life myself.
No one tells me you cannot do that.
I used to offer tips to improve the designs but always got rebuked because there are no letters after my name.
I am IMI and EAL Accredited, which I did with my eyes closed most of the time with excruciating pain from an incomplete spinal cord injury C4-6.
I have had to create my mobility aids because they have never existed.
It was good watching you play verbal tennis and keeping us entertained.
Sold a 6K-Mile GT3 RS just like the one behind them. Not very exciting outside of a racetrack.
Is that not the GT2?
That might have something to do with the fact that it's "made for the race track"
Probably the 10th time watching this, always take inspiration from Carl & His dad as I’m a car dealer too & the knowledge & info they give helps me grow too! Thanks for the podcast!
lol. ‘Destroys electric cars’ roughly translates to ‘man has opinion on electric cars’ 🙄
Thank you so much for these great 2 hours. I'm 45, a car enthusiast (my favorite car is the Merc SLS 63 Coup) , divorced and since a long time, I haven't seen had such a joyful and great conversation, you made my day guys. Chapeau to Mr. Hartley and thank you so much Rob for this great interview.
I wish you both great success in your businesses and families, and Blessings to everyone.
The story or the young lad and the Urus reminds me so much of a Lamborghini dealer in Birmingham entertaining my 9 year son and giving him time and opportunity to sit and ask questions, he is now 21 and all he wants is a Lamborghini and he will get it I'm sure and its all down to this encounter. you just never know how one interaction can change perception for ever.
9:46 amazing because hes had yhat SLS and GT2 behind him for absolutely ages. Also the SF90 behind Rob has been in stock 12 months
i mean he did say the markets changing right now and the post covid demand that was driving that 3 week turnaround time is dying down
I agree with Carl i prefer an f50 over a f40
Carl needs to make more content of his own. He’d blow up, full of knowledge.
He's like a mix of Andrew Tate and Tommy Robinson
@@TBat0431 without the hate 😂
I still have my Red Lamborghini Countach Alpine Poster. It's was once mounted in my bedroom it's now in my office at my Auto shop. Still in immaculate condition it was a gift from my dad and one day my son will have it mounted in his bedroom.
The best part of the episode was all of it. Nearly two hours of interview gone in a flash. Very enjoyable and also very informative.
Countach is king of analog supercars. Not comparing apples to apples. Properly tuned and suspended they are an incredible driving experience.
You obviously love newer cars with all due respect.
This guy is the real deal. He would do well as a pro stock trader because he understands 'speculation' and while eliminating the emotion out of it. That's also why amateurs, whether in the car market or stock market or poker championships go home with their tails between their legs!
Carl knows what he's doing and he's an efficient businessman. Thoroughly enjoyed the interview.
What a contrast to the other lot you interviewed recently that came across so poorly (other than the mechanic).
One of the most enjoyable chats/interviews I have seen on the channel and I don't even own a car!
I really enjoyed this interview very much. Thank you! 😊
Great video, interview, and a really interesting guy. To sum up, get an Ariel Atom if you want to enjoy driving fast. Probably the slowest depreciating cars out there too
Great video Rob - and a fab guest. I think you are a skilled interviewer because you ask a question and then listen. Too many interviewers are all about interrupting to give a story of their own. You let the guest flow.
Brilliant conversation. Thanks for these lovely 2 hours. Rob's keeping it interesting all the time and Carl is a fountain of knowledge.
Electric cars have always been around and will always have a future they’re called “Milk Floats!!!””
hahahahaha this wins the comment
Yeah, a Rimac Nevera is a milk float, as is a Tesla model S plaid. Err... maybe not. Tesla Roadster will be a slam dunk on the petrol car lol
@@mikee6114
No it won’t .
Expensive milk float’s
& for the kids ‘bumper cars’ 😭🤣🤣🤣
Not sure about his Ferrari leanings. Yes good to look at and good pedigree. But very fragile and constant maintence. In most cases a bit too an obvious choice - like Paemla Anderson. Blond hair - boots and a red swimsuit.
With a Porsche if you get that 2 am phonecall to be somewhere - by 10am - you'd take the Porsche - it would get you there without drama ( and some fun thrown in ). With a Ferrari you'd have to think hard then leave it.
thats fair but u have to think abt someone garage as a whole not just the supercars. Vast majority of porsche, ferrari owner do not daily them, they have a bmw, mercedes, audi, tesla, range rover etc, as the daily. In the use case u mentioned i would forget the porsche or ferrari and take the high powered daily.
Carl Certainly knows his stuff fascinating listening to this episode new sub here
Great chat. I love the financing argument. The reality is that car loans are expensive (interest) and now it is very difficult to invest the same amount to cover the cost. Every 100k in a car will cost between 5%to 10% a year (or more) before other costs. Very few investment bring this after tax…this is part of the reason of the crash. Buy the best you can with your money and you can enjoy it without worrying. Cheapest way is to buy it outright…Well said
Which of these cars should i remove from my fantasy garage ?
Ruf yellow bird, 959 Komfort, 959 Sport, 959 canepa, 930 3.0 turbo, 930 3.3 turbo, 997.2 speedster, 991.1 R, Ruf Yellowbird Anniversary, Singer 964 Targa
Proof of the old adage, you literally can't buy experience, this guy knows his stuff because of his experience, and probably the benefit of his Dad's experience too, that adds up to an awful lot !Respect where it's due!
I completely agree with electric cars, I don’t care how fast they accelerate or the stupid BHP they claim. I don’t want to be driving a white goods. They have zero appeal to me.
Great video. I have watched quite a lot of content with Carl and he always has something new and interesting to talk about and you can't say that about many interviewee's.
Another great interview with Carl Hartley. I would happily buy a car from this guy.
Some of the questions put to Carl really do put him on the spot, and he still gives a solid answer. Very credible and straight talking. Great personality too.
Tom Jaconelli at Romans International was also great. He came across really humble and knowledgeable of his business. Another pair of safe I feel.
In contrast, having watched one of Rob’s other Supercar retailer interviews, I was far less impressed with that outfit and how they came across.
Top bloke! Agree with everything he said.
I have no idea who Carl is but he’s very interesting and entertaining, great watch!
This was a great interview. The comment on 'wanting to do business with people even if the numbers aren't ideal' hit home. Going to remember that one.
"Of course i took the GF" was one of the most iconic line of this 2hr podcast
Never watch these but the clips enticed me in and I watched the whole damn thing!
Honestly speaking
This was a very good podcast
Good variety of questions
Some good humour
👍
This has been the most fantastic interview thoroughly enjoyed it thank you to both of you
Woke up 03.00 in the morning, made a cup of tea and started the watch your video thinking I will fall asleep in 10min. Not happy still watching it 90 min later and feeling more awake than when I started❤
What a lovely interview thoroughly enjoyable and what a straight talking guy Carl is. Some great stories
Always love Carl Hartley on the podcast. Great to get an insight into the car world and market through him. Im a petrol head and so are so many of us here so can never go wrong with this one.
I can only hope to be in position to get one of these cars they have talked about….this was an awesome interview and so motivating
What a guy, Carl needs to do more videos I absolutely love listening to him and what an inspiration to anyone in the trade! 👏
Brilliant content as usual Rob. I always love your interviews with Carl. Disappointed that we didn't see you improved your haggling skills buying a 3rd car haha.
haha good one
Must say wonderful listening to you guys. I can hear the passion in your voices.
Hey Rob big thanks for the show, I am sure you will hit 1 million quite soon. Excellent!
lets hope!
For those wondering: yes, rich kid whose career was paved by Daddy. Most impressive skill: acting self-made while not realizing people probably deal with junior as a favor or for access to Daddy
A really enjoyable watch….what really resonated with me is Carl’s belief that he has to make it enjoyable for people to spend their money…..that’s why people like him exist and it’s the single thing that these Uber brands and their agents have lost sight of….Porsche, Ferrari, Rolex, Ap, Hermes. The customer experience is just horrible. There’s nothing worse than being treated with what verges on contempt when making an expensive purchase. I don’t buy watches anymore because of it.
I am fortunate to have purchased a 997.2 GTS in 2016 last week I was asked at a Porsche dealership if they could buy it for a client for £59.000 I paid £45.000 for it, So research is important, on flip side Depreciation on a BMW M4 was brutal but it was leased.
Carl is a legend.
he is indeed, reminds of a Eddie Hearn
Holy shit I love this guy!!! He could work at Nissan or Ford and simply dominate the sales floor. This is the guy you should want to work for if you are in sales.
By far the best YT Video I have ever seen.
F40 came out in "87 .. tut tut Carl 😂. Good chat gents.
I cabt believe I sat through the entire 2 hr vid. Great content for those of us who can only dream about owning and driving super rare cars. Bravo
Great long video. Very entertaining and natural. Your insight on supercars balances out what we have learnt from Top Gear and real life. The gold Nautilus and navy is Awesome. Its took a while but I'm in.
I do love the shape of the Tycan shooting brake.
These guys are great. You can learn a lot about human nature from this conversation. (The RM and the Patek are also discussing things.)
I watched the entire video and must say it was amazing, best and most frank interview period. Thank you 🙏 both.
What an insight to a world I'll never know
Absolutely brilliant
Especially the young boy calling up 😊
This was a great listen. Carl is very engaging and a great speaker.
I loved the 1:39:00 bugatti wing mirror repair story
Been a very very long time since I watched a full podcast. Kudos
Great listen, after discussing so many great sounding cars I’m surprised not to hear anything on the greatest car sound and that’s of course the LFA …?
I initially wrote some negative stuff about Carl. A 6 hour drive listening to him on various podcasts has given me a very different view. His take on the GT3 RS “where are you going”? 😂.
Such incredible advice on cars. Seems very grounded and down to earth. Yes he’s been handed a lot but he’s then made it better, very few can say that.
I left a scathing comment here and after listening to Carl and his dad talk I realise I was very wrong.
A great family, very inspiring.
The best supercar which is unpopular is the NSX
Brilliant interview 🎉
Best interview I’ve seen with Carl. Brilliant.
I love cars. I like driving both EVs and ICE. I have both. Supercars and normal cars are totally different. I've never started a BMW 320d and felt excited.
Can someone put timestamps please!??
Carl seems a genuine & interesting guy. The sort you'd happily buy a car from. But YT mechanic Mat Armstrong already opened up the world of getting spare parts for supercars on the cheap when he rebuilt his Lamborghini. Audi, Ford, & Volvo parts fitted it, saving him thousands. I'm sure many of those supercars also use parts from other cheaper brands parts bins.
What a wonderful chat. Loved it! however as I do agree with Carl that Porsche Turbo S is boring as a perfect wife...GT3 (not RS which is too grippy!) is like a perfect lover! You dont have to go 200mph to have fun with it. Quite the opposite. Traction off. Mountain Passses. Drifting in slower sections. The sound of GOD at 9000rpm and great looks. I cannot believe petrolhead woudn't appreciate it.
He's a cocky young guy, but wasn't so bullish when he almost went to jail a couple of years ago, causing an accident thru speeding.
He was apologetic over the incident, served his sentence, and it’s now a spent conviction, done and dusted, at 5ft 6 and given daddy’s money it’s not surprising he comes over as arrogant especially in his 20s
I think he’s just confident in his own and of course his families field of expertise in successfully dealing in luxury cars long term.
Things go wrong in life and most of us have made mistakes a long the way that we would prefer to forget.
❤
Carl is an absolute legend. I will definitely come to see him and let him recommend me some new weekend toys.
Great great interview, really enjoyed that... cheers guys 👍
Great video, watched all of it, and I'm slowly warming to Carl, (slowly), as he makes some great points, and say s some great and interesting things, he's matured as has his conversations, and i appreciate that
Top interview Rob really enjoyed that one, need to get Tom Hartley jnr on.
Didn't a ton of people get caught out running Taycans through the business when they came to sell them? Unpopular opinion, I like the Taycan Cross Turismo as an electric option.
thoroughly enjoyed that, great interview 👏
Carl claiming to be 5ft 6 is wild 😂😂😂😂
