I had a friend who passed away a few years ago. Him and I were best friends. We always played halo together, Halo 3 was our favorite game ever, of all time. Every day after school we’d play online until bedtime. We would do campaign, custom games, or simply fuck around on forge. One day, he didn’t get online, I thought he simply got grounded or something. I went to call him but never got an answer. I wish I had figured it out sooner than I did. I feel bad now cause of what happened the next day; I woke up to get ready for school, it was just like any other Friday. I got ready and was on my way to the bus stop. (This was 12th grade neat the beginning. I used public transportation every day, everywhere.) I got in the bus and arrived at school, we had a place we always hung out, right near the cafeteria waiting for breakfast to start. A few minutes go by and he still didn’t show up. I was beyond pissed, it was the night we got out school early and he was supposed to come over to play and hang out. School went on without him there. I thought maybe he was sick or something so I just let it go. After school, I turned my phone on, I wait for the Apple boot screen to finish and I unlock it. What I saw next made my heart sink more than ever in my life; “Hey jordan, this is Matt’s mom. Matt was in a terrible car accident last night after school. Today we are holding a viewing at (address). We would really appreciate it if you could make it”. I saw that and just broke down. I had just lost my best friend, the guy who had talked me out of suicide, the guy who, no matter what, was there for me for support. I couldn’t believe what I just read. The next day I didn’t go to school, instead I went to his viewing. It really broke my heart when I walked in, my friend of a life time had just gone. I walked in and this song (not this specific one, the actual one from the OST was on) was playing. It was his favorite halo soundtrack song. I burst into tears right in the entrance. I will never forget you Matt. You’ve made my life worth living in high school, you helped me battle depression and anxiety, you were a true friend who meant everything to me.
