I was a Leon Russell fan in the early 1970s, when I was in college. I'm 70, presently and I still give his music a listening to. I like the album: Carney, which came out in 1972.

Leon Russell was one of the best studio musicians of his era. It’s why he is linked to so many bands and labels. He was a phenomenal showman but he really never allowed himself to be pigeonholed in any specific genre. Maybe that’s why so many know his music but might not even realize he is the musician.

One of the most influential musician/songwriters in rock history--yet few today remember his name

The first time I posted this, four years ago, of course, it had a much bigger push from YT. But a lot of the comments were to the effect of Leon IS a household name. My point was to echo your sentiment. He should be a bigger one. Have a great day.

Leon was so humble. He didn't care if he was in the the lime light. He just loved music & whether he was cutting a record or helping others, he didn't care. Love this guy. A true legion. Our very own Leon Russell. Love you so much. ❤

I first saw Leon at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center in 1971 with my Mom. I,knew of him but my mom did not. She became a fan and we have seen him at least 3 more times❤❤❤, bringing my sister into the fold. Even my 82 year old grandpa loved him!

What an undertaking.......to do a documentary on an artist beyond description. Indeed a legend, an icon, a performer who has influenced so many in his lifetime. It's a shame that so many have no idea of what this man did in his career.. AND you started the documentary off with music from Mad Dogs and Englishmen!! How fitting...

Saw Leon 1971,72 Old San Diego Sports Arena. Both great performances. Had very distinct style and one of a kind heartfelt voice! Shelter people and Marc Benno collaboration on Asylum Choir two best efforts. Also Mad Dogs and you know.

Leon probably didn't play on as many hits as Carol Kaye or Glen Campbell, but he was definitely in their league as an all-star session guy. Still, I don't think anyone else in the Wrecking Crew wrote a song that was the title track of 2 top selling albums (A Song for You), or a million selling jazz standard (This Masquerade). Not to mention his many contributions as a live performer and band leader...

@@edwardallan197 Carol Kaye was a session bass and guitar player that played with the LA wrecking crew like Leon (in his early years) and Glen Campbell. She’s on lots of The Beach Boys hits and so many other tunes…like Leon. I guess Carol King played on a lot, too, probably in NY. She definitely wrote a bunch.

I Goggled " What was Leon Russell's net worth when he died?". It said $600,000. I couldn't believe that. Maybe one house Leon owned was worth that but unless he gave away all his millions I just can't believe that. For crying out loud he owned his own record label.

I can't remember what I found out about his if anything. I know he wasn't rolling in it. I haven't scrubbed Part 2 to put it up. No one connected to the Tulsa music scene was rolling in it, sadly. It's become my favorite kind of music. Have a good day.

@@MellissaBoomeroftheNight Thanks Melisa. I just wanted to say that Leon and Elton were both my piano inspirations when I was a teen in the early 70's. I wanted to play gospel piano so bad and it took me until I was 52 for my dream to come true when I got a gig being a Hammond organist for a Black Baptist Church in St. Augustine FL. I actually became a Celebrity in NE Florida in the Black Baptist Church scene. And I owe it all to Leon Russell. RIP Brother we'll be jamming together when I get there in God's Big Band in the Sky.
