    This game made me feel like Hop from Sword & Shield rotating his team around because 6 ain't enough haha it feels so cool to have an idea of a 'team of 6' I wanted to use, but then out of nowhere I'll catch an alpha or rare spawn Pokemon (or a Pokemon that I didn't even know was in this game) with an EXCELLENT nature and then throw it on the team haha
    Another example could be Gary from the Kanto days where he'd catch so many Pokemon and then rotate them around to all get stronger and use them for the right situations.
    This game is a blast!

      Mine were Gardevoir and Ursaluna, because Ursaluna is just plain a massive upgrade to Ursaring. Ursaluna gets the absurdly broad coverage that’s a signature thing for Normal Types in general, *but then it gets the stats to back up the coverage along with Ground-Type STAB*
      Ursaluna gets Play Rough, Headlong Rush, the elemental punches, shadow claw, rock slide, and more, giving it *absurd* coverage and power along with good bulk and dual immunities.

      I think the biggest thing that holds Scizor back is when you can obtain it.
      Sure, you can get Scyther really early on. But to actually evolve it, you have to wait for an Metal Coat. And the earliest you can get the item [outside of trading in Merit points] is if you get lucky with a Magnemite within a space-time distortion within the Colbalt Coastlands. Otherwise, it's in the Coronet Highlands where you can find an Alpha Steelix that can drop it.

    • @sulkapgamer897
      @sulkapgamer897 2 года назад +9

      Funny enough, for me Volo wasn't the hardest boss due to the Pokemon I had in my team, but rather, Arceus was the hardest for the fact that he had abilities outside of combat I'm not used to. Crazy part is, Cresselia's lunar blessing and the RNG went against me, and Regigigas was the one who had to tank. Like Volo, I had a lot of coverage put in my team as well to counter their weaknesses. However, the thing that made the difference is I used all my Grit Dust, gravel, pebbles, and rocks on the team.
      Also oddly enough, enough grit training on Giratina in this game could end up getting him in banned-tier if it were competitive. Over 500 HP and over 300 other stats, and he's not level 80 yet. So Volo wasn't kidding when he said he gave Giratina all that power to defeat arceus.

    One point of contention. 7:45 the whole “no recharge” for Giga Impact. I’m fairly certain that moves that would normally be a two charge move, noted by the move descriptions saying “using all its power behind it”, can still effect the action order.

      But it lowers defense for a measly 25 extra damage on whats already 95 damage. Defense is ursaluna's main selling point. Especially when you consider 95 base power STAB ground KO's most things 120 base power STAB would. The important thing is that all the strongest enemies will need 2 hits, so the extra power doesn't actually help(it just makes the first hit put the foe in red not orange, 2nd kills anyway). High horsepower also has 10PP which is already too low much less Headlong rushes 5PP for a main attacking move, especially in this games stamina based competitive modes with the trials and eternal battle reverie. Although in a traditional doubles competitive format, Headlong rush would be better but at the same time Earthquake already outshines all ground type moves because of range and higher PP aswell.

    • @RoninXDarknight
      @RoninXDarknight 2 года назад +1

      My guess would be it's because, while he has good defensive coverage and his one weakness of fire is a type that there isn't much of in the game, he has absolutely no way of dealing with any pure fire pokemon that pops up unless they have a subtype for him to go after...and most of the fire type pokemon you're going to be encountering don't have a subtype for him to exploit. Of the three that do, Scizor has exactly one move each to deal with Arcanine/Growlithe & Typlosion (neither he gets a STAB from and Ominous Wind is a special type move which makes it even worse) while he has a couple to deal with Infernape that do play to his strengths. But again, you're not going to be encountering those pokemon that much.
      Beyond that though, he has paper thin special defense which, combined with his 4x weakness to fire means any decent special attacker with access to a fire special will shred him even with agile style, STAB or no. Compounding this further is that pretty much every pokemon with access to a fire type special is going to be comfortably out speeding him and he's done before he can land a single hit. And on top of that, while he does have significantly higher physical defense, his 4x weakness to fire means that even physical fire attacks will bring the pain easily. Basically, anyone who can out speed him and has a fire attack wins...and, quite frankly, that's a staggering amount of pokemon.
      Still one of my favorite pokemon but objectively while he has a lot of coverage defensively, his one weakness coupled with his lack of speed is a glaring one that he doesn't have much ability to counter.

    Honestly, I reckon you’re severely undervaluing the Eeveelutions - particularly Sylveon. Being able to get Eevee in the first area, then evolving it immediately for a COLOSSAL power boost allows you to completely run away with the early game, while their power allows them to keep up even in the postgame. As for Sylveon specifically, the combination of Mystical Fire and Calm Mind gives it obscene tanking ability, as well as the perfect Fairy/Ghost coverage. The big reason to use it over Gardevoir would be the massive early and mid game power (I evolved my Eevee at just L18 and I wasn’t even grinding friendship explicitly).

    I pretty much agree with the list. Here are some honorable mentions.
    Empoleon: I caught the Static Alpha on the coast, and it pretty much carried me through the mid/late game. Ice Beam/Flash Cannon/Water Move is pretty much all the coverage you'll need (I had a +ATK nature, so I ran Wave Crash in addition to Hydro Pump). If you could catch it earlier, I would 100% have it in my top ten.
    Mespirit: Yes. It is post game only, but Recover + Drain Punch means this Pokemon is great at staying alive as long as you can keep its PP up, making it amazing for post game grinding.
    Driftblim: Strong argument for putting this in a top 10 list, and I wouldn't even call someone crazy for putting it top 5. You can catch it right from the start of the game, and Hypnosis + Mystic Fire makes it great at catching Pokemon in battle. It has the bulk to hang in multiple turns, allowing you to throw a 90% accurate Strong Style Hypnosis against most Pokemon, survive the potential two turns of abuse, and finish the foe off with a Hex. Only one of my original six Pokemon to stay on my team through the entire game.
    Graveler/Golem: Inferior to Rhyperior (or even probably Rhydon) in the long run, but you can get it much earlier. Graveler is about as good as Rhyhorn, and you can get it in the first area. If you have a friend to trade with, or luck your way into an early link cable, you can have your golem as soon as level 25, almost 20 levels before you can have a Rhydon.

    Surprised by the lack of Scizor on this list. Does take some work to get that damned Metal Coat, but he was undeniably the mvp of my entire playthrough. Phenomenal typing, solid movepool, great stats, and of course access to Calm Mind + False Swipe (which actually do synergize in PLA) for easy mon catching.

    Scizor is a super underrated pick for this game, probably as they added a new Scyther evo with Kleavor. Scizor has amazing typing, great stats, access to bullet punch which is a steel type quick attack that fixes it's one flaw (mediocre speed) making it at least top 5 pokemon in this game. It also gets access to calm mind which boosts physical stats in this game and double hit (which, if used in agile style with bullet punch to follow up, hoo boy).

    It gets acess to power shift in this gen (which swaps the attack and defense stat) which makes it interesting cause u can go calm mind and either run your usual buff boi or go calm mind at the start of a battle, and the second u get 2 moves in a row (cuz of the agile style/strong style system) you could go into power shift which makes it so u can do some pretty crazy sweeping.
    Furthermore u can get it pretty early in the game.

    My top recommendation is Yanmega. You can catch it right at the start of the Crimson Mirelands, and Yanma is a good level (around 28) when you find it. Evolves in the mid thirties and becomes such a beast. You can catch it with both Air Slash and Hypnosis, Silver Wind suffices until Bug Buzz, and Ancient Power has proven useful. The Sp.Attack+ nature probably helped, but my Yanmega was easily my MVP, it's incredibly fast and hits so hard. If you do another playthrough, absolutely try Yanmega, it rips through so much of what stands in your way, any Battle it had an advantage against was trivial.

    Totally biased, but mismagius deserves to be on every top 10. Misdreavus/mismagius are my favorite of all time, but apart from that it just has a fantastic movepool. It has fantastic coverage using some of the best 80 base power, 100 accuracy special moves. If I’m lacking basically any typing on my team, mismagius nearly always has something it can learn to solve that issue. I also recommend any Pokémon that can learn sleep powder. For filling that dex up, and shiny hunting. Sleep powder normal has I think 80 accuracy, but using it in a strong style not only makes it way more effective for catching, it makes it have 100 accuracy. So that’s a must have for a playthrough imo. I didn’t do that on my first playthrough, but on my second I did and idk how I managed without it. Saved so much time.

    In terms of the Gardevoir/Alakazam dispute, I’d honestly put Alakazam way over gardevoir purely for typing. Gardevoir being fairy means it doubles the amout of things its weak to, plus the lack of Speed and Sp Atk generally means its way easier to sweep through a team with Alakazam, with more options to switch into as well. Whilst the movepool of Gardevoir is more diverse, Alakazam can still blast things with Energy Ball, Shadow Ball, Dazzling Gleam and Psychic. If they let him keep Focus Blast he becomes infinitely better in the sense that he has full coverage of any of his weaknesses, just my opinion tho, coming from a SoulSilver all the way up to Ultra Moon player.
