BEST HANDLING LUXURY SUV // NOTHING ELSE COMES CLOSE TO THIS // 2024 PORSCHE CAYENNE REVIEW

  • Among many luxury SUVs, one model stands out as a vehicle that delivers the best handling, most fun-to-drive experience, and most sports car like character: 2024 Porsche Cayenne. Despite having a SUV body, the Cayenne provides unmatched driving character...perhaps Lexus and other luxury brands can learn from Porsche.
Also in 1990s, Porsche sought help from Toyota engineers and managers how to streamline its operation and improve its product development cycle - the result was a spectacular recovery resulting in creation of Porsche brand that we know today. Over the last several decades, Porsche has risen to the top of quality and customer satisfaction surveys, and in some cases "beaten Toyota in its own game" as the performance leader. Could Toyota - or specifically Lexus - now learn from Porsche how to design more fun-to-drive cars? David talks about this after driving the new Porsche Cayenne which delivers the best of Porsche's attributes.

I drove my 2004 Mustang Mach 1 5 speed from Cody to Cheyenne, Wyoming. 400.0 miles. The posted speed limits were 70MPH and 80MPH. I averaged over 76MPH (not counting lunch and fuel stops) and 29MPG with the A/C on. V8 engines loafing at low RPM get great mileage. Turbo four and sixes get great mileage on EPA rollers but lousy mileage on boost in the real world. Give me an N/A V8 instead of a turbo 4 or 6 any day.

Both are great brands, but I feel Toyota does not engineer with passion, they engineer with dollars and a need to be reliable. Toyota products remain high quality and reliable. The company is owning responsibility for recalling (voluntarily) and making whole the V6 twin turbo issue. Give them a little time. My twin turbo V6 is doing well w/o issue. Just checked the oil for debris - none. I do understand disappointment but it is just an engine. Sometimes mechanical designs need to be tweaked. The howling on the internet about poor Tundra and Tacoma sales misses a few points: 1. The inflation post pandemic has driven up costs. Prices will never go back down. We can only wish but not likely. 2. Other OEM’s trucks are not selling in the 45-75k price range. Consumers are adjusting to the “reset” on prices and the sales will rebound once interest rates are lower and the US economy picks up.
