Extremely well done. I truly hope Waldorf does this with every variant of every "legacy" synth they've ever made, many of which I have owned and loved. If I can own it forever virtually in my DAW you've always got my money
Recently in the open source DSP 56300 emulation project they have presented the emulation of the Waldorf Microwave II/XT. It is a good coincidence that Waldorf releases its own software version of the microwave
I am also a huge fan of the DSP emulation project and featured the Virus on this channel. It's great to have both the II/XT and I in the box. Great times to make music!
@@burger659I haven’t used the Waldorf version yet but I have the original XT and the dsp emulation is spot on, which is no surprise since it’s running the actual ROM and only emulating the processor(s)
Well, back then people preferred the MW1 over the MW2 as the MW1 has analog VCFs and VCAs.. The Xt came with hands on controls, and without my Access programmer i would have parted with my MW1 after a week as programming is hell on earth . So now Waldorf has to emulate those analog features and add them to the digital core or wave tables , and with CPU tech from 2020 that is not a problem anymore. The clicky envelopes are still there but can be dealt with and the interface is marvelous, clean and easy to read and even acts as controller. Still, if you want o use more than one instance you need a proper machine, the DSP emu has a very good multi mode that is lighter on the CPU. They are both fantastic instruments , and in DSP land i am more looking forward playing with the new NordRed2X but Xenia will definitely get a place in the virtual rack, especially for those ethereal bell like sounds
Wonderful demo. The biggest issue with this plugin that it will cost much of my free time because I want to play with it. Since I don’t have any spare time at the moment I’m holding of buying it
All very wonderful but PPG Wave V3 was/is 149 Euros and still has its ridiculously tiny GUI (it is 2024 Waldorf software folk!). I'd love to get his but I'm not going to spend 119 Euros as Waldorf don't seem to keep their software up-to-date so I'd be reluctant to invest until they do. They have amazing legacy products and I really don't understand why they are ignored or overlooked.
Thx for the video! Unfortunately I'm not able to connect the vst to my hardware MW1. Is there a special vst version just for the hardware? May ableton vst window (bottom left window with yelow dot) shows no midi IN/OUT just the XY field. Sure I'm missing something ...many thanks!
Sounds great, congratulations! I also like that there are tuning tables. Might there be a possibility in a future update that it could load a tuning file produced by Scala, or better, be able to use MTS-ESP?
I don't believe you included it in this new version, but I would love a Random Patch generator! I can't explain what amazing sounds are discovered when a synth has a Random Patch Generator. I don't know how complex that would be for the Microwave, but synths like my Prophet VS and Hydrasynth have this feature. So do many of the latest plugins, as well, such as UnfilteredAudio's Battalion & many more. There are sounds that you will never hear unless you add a Random Patch Generator. Obviously, you know best how this might work and it may require some reduction in the Randomness to pull it off with limited ability, but give us that and you'll have a Greater Synth! Let me know your thoughts
Microwave 1 release war 89 glaub ich ... Davor wurde mein hirn eigentlich nur vom c64 SID chip besser geflutet... Das Intro von giana sisters ist so ein epochales Beispiel, meines erachtens 😅
It sounds very convincing indeed. I do find this product a bit weird, a plugin versus the M. Is the M also controllable through this plugin, as it 'eats' mw1 sysex?
@@robmlisanti You can build your own wavetables with the editor, but import of wav files is not possible due the different architecture of the oscillators from 1989.

great video, the best of all videos published today on release day
really happy about that news.. I still own my Microwave 1 and will use it now to remote control the synth. Thank!
This sounds like you've done a great job with this emulation
Thanks a lot for the introduction, Martin! I will definitely check that dude out 👍
Very well designed interface. I like it.
Also scaleable, which I forgot to mention.
2:28: great idea man! I have a synth from 1978 wich does the same thing
This sounds excellent, but I wish Waldorf would also update the PPG Wave 3.V
Thankyou Martin, this looks and sounds very good 😊

The gui for the Wavetable modulation is s fantastic idea. Would love to see a hardware controller with similar features for my MW.
Thanks so much for ths walkthrough.

It should work with the regular VST. I suggest, that you contact Waldorf support, they should be able to help you!
The blinking red LED for LFO is speed is a good idea! (and an ergonomic question!)
Martin do you know how to Sync the lfo or the wave envelope to the daw clock? I up/down the time in the daw but no changes in microwave.... thanks!
Hi! It is not possible to synth the LFOs to the clock. The feature was just part of the original hardware and Waldorf decided to keep it as it was.

Can the VST load sys exclusive patches from the M?
No, the M and the plugin are two different shows.

A good question, which I will forward to the team. I would like to see tuning tables as well!
Is it only my ears that is distorted or the hardware sound choir that sounds slightly distorted? Vst sounds much cleaner.
Hi Martin, it is interesting to see that the hardware can be controlled with the plug-in. Any hope the Iridium will see this in its future?

Modal craft and skulpt have too it does come with amazing sounds fast indeed
The VST version is better because of it's digital perfect intégration, there is more clarity and harmonics maybe, thanks for the patch 🙏😉

As far as I know the M and the plugin don't talk to each other.
Where?? I'm not seeing this on their website. There was a thread a few days ago about how they prematurely announced it.
It should be online now, please check the link in my description.

Sweet, but I am sticking with my Waldorf Nave VSTi.
How is it on CPU usage?
Barely moving on my M1 Mac (no pro, no max) with 16Gb Ram. You can see Ableton's CPU meter on the top right of the screen.
PPG Wave 3.V really needs an update so the interface can be enlarged. It's absolutely too small for a 1440p screen.
I agree!
Very interesting. The setup is complete overkill for my knowledge, but I really enjoy your well explained topics. Cheers - Chris
