95% of my aquarium equipment across my three tanks is Fluval! The best brand for aquatics in the world!
Thanks so much! 😎
Thank you very much. Got a free 50 gallons fish tank and this video made the pump set up so much easier!
That's what we like to hear :) Thanks for sharing!
This is a great filter, I have the 205 and haven't got 1 complaint, it's quiet and doing a brilliant job keeping my tank clean, my tetra air pump is making more noise than the filter.
Technically, we don't suggest in the video washing the ceramic biological media with tap whatever; however, we could have been more clear about not doing so. I'll make an annotation in the video to make sure it is more clear. Thanks for pointing it out!
I bought my 305 back in 2008 when it first came out I only ran it for a year then put it in storage cause I had to move along with my aquarium. I want to set up my aquarium again really don’t feel like spending $200 on a brand new filter, do you think my 305 will still run good as new all these years later
Hi there! You'll need to replace the gaskets and O-rings, and verify that the impeller assembly still works as expected, but otherwise the filter should be fine! Testing it outside or in your garage may be a wise step, in case something has failed over the past 15 years. 👍
@@fluval yes they sell a whole replacement parts kit on amazon for the 305 I got I’m waiting for it to come
3:50 is where he starts cleaning the filter out. Thought I'd mention it in case anyone else was only interested in that bit, like I was :)
@Gravitysea 2 might. but in a bigger system like that it seems the system would have its own better filtration system, and maybe a wet/dry system would be better
At 7:02 there's a yellow Impeller Well Insert. Are you able to tell me the purpose of this part and any signs it needs replaced?
Hi there! The yellow piece is part of the impeller shaft assembly. It should only be removed if the impeller shaft breaks!
@bakernade
yes, to adjust it you move the black lever on the aquastop valve. all the way up allows no flow, all the way down allows maximum flow.
do you really need the pipe conections in the tank below the water line? i have just bought a 90 gallon tank for my turtles and there is no way i am filling that to the brim! it only needs about quater to half of the water in for my turtles so can i just leave the pipe conections above the water line?
would a 205 be enough for a 40 gallon breeder turtle tank with about 5 small turtles?
My ones leaking through primer filter put a new plunger in and it still leaks ?
hi i just brought a 405 and had it set up but made it so that the output tube is just above the water and not below the water, is that ok?
i had problem with the gasket on the204 once after a filter cleaning it leaked and on my other 204 we had apower failer with that the filter started leaking lost half the water before i noticed we were in the dark changed gaskets and no more leaks is there a maintaince to prevent that or any advice
@newyorksteelo i know that but i mean like its doesnt stop the suction if it does open by accident it well pump water threw both pumps i tryed emptying the tubes but opening it over a bucket and it didnt stop the flow:( o well
I was having a difficult time having the unit to pump water into the tank. I checked the impeller, still no flow, it was turning but not pumping. Turns out that I had the intake and outlet hoses backwards 😩
Sorry to hear that Barry, this is a fairly common mistake, we have all been there! 😁
to bad when u take of the tubing during fitler cleaning and u open the valve all the water rushes out and it has sucksion so it well keep on coming threw both intake and outtake tubes
Clean the foam in water witch in the filter by scqueesing in a few times dont woash under tap water you wil kill all the good bacteries
I just got a fluval 405. The problem I have is that the back of the lid doesn't seem to sandwhich tight with the bottom of the canister. When I lean the canister, water drains out. I've checked and everything is clearl, but it doesn't sandwhich all the way. Any ideas?
@megaman20002000
yes, it will just be more noisy when water flows back into the tank because there may be some splashing.
is fluval 105 is good for turtles ?
What if it leaks ? Fluval always Leaks.
Can anybody tell me how noisy this pump is?
Too noisy for the bedroom?
Juwel aquariums did some reserch into washing filters under the tap or in aquarium water and found out it makes no difference, I know people will say im wrong but im not here to say whats wrong or right just what i've read
If this is meant to be the official Fluval guidance on routine filter maintenance, why are they showing everything being rinsed under a running tap? Any aquarist should know that is a big NO NO and the quickest way to kill off all your good bacteria in your filter!!! Mature filters should only be cleaned using tank water to maintain the good bacteria.
That is true for the main biological media however filter media that is placed at the incoming water point into the system that really serve more of a mechanical function can be rinsed with tap water and thoroughly cleaned out to optimize flow.
@Gravitysea - sorry, no it wouldn't, the 405 is only good for aquariums up to 100g.
I know you have to change the carbon once a month but what about the polishing pads and the other foam pads? Please advise.
Hi Terrol, the frequency at which mechanical pads plug up varies with your the waste load of your aquarium. The typical method for polishing pads is to replace them when they have removed the specific symptom at hand (i.e. suspended algae), or when the flow drops visibly. Foam pads on the other hand can be rinsed and re-used. Replacing them a couple of times a year is usually adequate.
"Never change all the Media at once" . Hahahahaha!!! But it's ok to wash the baskets with the BB under tap water!! What would be the difference? Both are dead anyways! It urks me to see someone cleaning their media this way... If you use tap water - use it to clean the plastic baskets of solids as well as the plastic canister. Most of your BB is within the contents of the media (BioMAx balls, etc) not so much in the containers so as long as you don't wash out your media's under tap water, your filter should still hold its nitrifying bacteria. Prior to syphoning the water during a water change, set aside at least 3 gallons of water from your aquarium to clean out the media you have in your filter. This way you are not killing off any beneficial bacteria in your tank that took your filter months to create.
Maybe they are using well water..lol
wtf I turn it on and it doesn't do anything except a low hum
Hi Melissa, have you contact our Customer Service dept. for assistance? Here's how to reach them: www.fluvalaquatics.com/ca/fluval-support/
Oh It started working after I punched it. Thanks!
Ruby ArnieJudasLove hello
Lmao mine was doing the same thing read your comment about punching it so I said what the hell I give it a go, punched it a few times and it started working. So thank you 🍻
with a filter like this, would I still be required to gravel clean every week?
@eckick1 - Thx for your input :)
@trumizou oh well I am cos ive not got this stupid fluval thinging i got a penn-plax with says on the box it works well with turtles
question, why are you saying to wash the media under running tap water when you should know this method will kill off all bacteria needed to break down waste etc? when even the basics of cleaning media is to use water from the tank. i like fluval products im even looking to buy a roma 240 in the nxt few days hence why im here. I would like to see a company such as hagen to use this method rather than the tap water method. a lot of potential new customers will be watching thinking its the way they should do it when they will only putting their fish under stress which is not necessary. on the other hand ty for the vid it will be helpful should i get a roma 240 with a 305 filter :)
+dm101lad i see you added the red box with that instruction, mayber do and updated video with an updated model??
+dm101lad You should always rinse new filter media before use. Bacteria doesn’t exist on unused media, and this is what we are conveying this set-up tutorial. In much of the support material that we produce, we do make mention of rinsing Biomax, for example, in water taken from your tank. However, there is plenty of active bacteria left if you rinse under similar temperature tap water and dose with Fluval Biological Enhancer as instructed on the label.
+FLUVAL Aquatics I agree that new filter media should be rinsed before use. However, this video is showing something different. It is showing a filter that has been primed and used in the tank, being taken apart and rinsed under tap water. This is not good practice and sends out the wrong message.
+Retro virus At 5:29, a red box appears on the screen instructing not to rinse bio media with tap water. Additionally, we do go on to state in this video the staggering of filter media replacement, which is the right recommendation. For new filter set-up, yes, rinse in tap water and use tank water as stated in much of content in both instruction manuals and other content on our Fluval Website.
clean it in using some water from the tank.do not use tapwater! crucial.
@newyorksteelo nvm its hard to explain
U should rince the media but not in tap water as this vid shows use the old dirty tank water u don't whant to clean the media just remove particles that restrict water flow also never change the bio rings only change the carbon at least1ce a month
I dont even own a fluval why am I watching this?
I wish I had an FX5 really bad tho
that guy needs to smile he looks angry
this is askoll Pratico...?! oO
Good job washing all the beneficial bacteria away LOL. Lets reseed the thing and kill our fish while doin it. LMAO
Exactly total noobs now question is how to trust the products they are selling if they have no clue at all how to clean it properly ????
Mazius it makes no difference whether media is cleaned under tap water or using existing aquarium water
Fluval is washing filter media with tap water. Noobs.
