  • This is a quick video on my experience with my 2021 Ram rebel 1500 with the 5.7 Hemi engine. To put it simply. my engine catastrophically failed at 40,000 miles. The Hemi tick is real and in my opinion you should not buy a Ram Truck. This is a known problem with these trucks and it obviously hasn't been addressed by FCA!

    Your video will be shown to my neighbor. His 2020 Ram with 5.7 has the tick from day one. And I am the guy who has changed the oil after the stealership did the first 2 oil changes. Well just last week this same Code appeared and off to the dealership truck went with only 29,000 mile. Truck is a garage queen. And stealership say no it is not getting new engine and only a Correct oil change!
    The Ram 5.7 engine is a ticking time bomb waiting to fail.

    I bought a new 2003 ram hemi, it was a total lemon. It had the tick too.They gave me a new truck in 2005. I've had it since. No problems except the wheel well rust, which I will be fixing soon. I love dodge Otherwise. Thanks for sharing. Sorry about your truck.

    I had a 2015 ram 1500 5.7 hemi. tick started about 2 months ago. lifter ate the cam shaft on cylinder 3 on a road trip to Oklahoma. got stranded in Oklahoma and traded the truck in. finally got rid of this rolling money pit. Truck had 157,000 all highway miles on it. I changed oil every 3k changed tranny fluid every 30k, and really babied it. All in the last year I did the following...
    Water Pump
    Radiator
    Cooling Fans
    Wheel Bearings
    Exhaust manifold bolts and gasket
    Evap canister
    Transmission solenoid pack
    Fuel filter and pump
    I am probably missing a few things but it was just one issue after another, its like it would never stop. I've never had this many issues with any vehicle in my life. I wont be purchases a ram again.

    That's what warranty is for I suppose. I'm on my 4rd Ram a 23 with the torque and haven't had any issues with any of them other than my first one which was an 05 with the 4.7 that had to have the top end redone at 80k I'm probably going to order a Hurricane in the next year. The Tundras aren't all that great either. There's about 10 guys at work that have them one of them is the brand new one. That has been in for a Turbo already, one guy has had an engine replacement and others have had expensive failures and these are all trucks that were bought brand new.

    My 12 RAM with Hemi went 150,000 flawless miles then lost a lifter/cam. Dodge swapped in new ones under my lifetime warranty. Now on to my next 150,000 miles. Sad yours only went 40,000

    I’ve been a Chevy fan for over 20 years and I’ll never buy another one after my 2015 Silverado is falling apart. I’m still kicking myself for not spending the extra 10k on a tundra. I would take your time and find a deal on something else before the warranty expires

      That’s the crazy thing it’s like some of the trucks are great and some of them are horrible. I think it has to do with parts, but it definitely doesn’t instill confidence in me.

    Tow/Haul mode isn’t the way to turn MDS off either. lol
    You have to do it with tuner in the ecm or you use manual shift button on steering wheel!
    I have 2018 Rebel 5.7 lifetime warranty, but every time I put it in gear I push my manual shift button on my steering wheel and run it up to 8th gear and MDS never kicks in. Currently have 63k and no problems so far! FYI

    • @ManCaveMayhem
      @ManCaveMayhem  8 месяцев назад

      No, I know that. I usually use the shift buttons on the steering column, but when I’m towing, I’m running in tow haul mode, which does not turn the MDS system on.

    My father has a 2010 ram Lone star, and it’s been a great truck, we’ve always had a tick from the beginning, but once warmed up, it goes away. Besides some electrical issues, the truck has been good. But, we’ve been having problems with valve train such as bad cams and lifters when it comes down to building our performance engines for our classic and performance cars. There’s actually a big deal going on with that.

    • @ManCaveMayhem

      I don’t know if it’s the engine design or if it’s just the parts that they’re getting are subpar but somethings wrong.

    Just spoke to my service guy at my dealership, he says they haven’t seen any 1500’s have this problem this soon and none whatsoever when they have a good service history. And they’re a very large dealer with thousands of ram 1500 customers so…….

    • @ManCaveMayhem
      @ManCaveMayhem  8 месяцев назад +1

      Like I said, in the video, the second time I spoke with my service advisor, when I asked him if you see much of these come in he says to me and I quote it’s a hemi isn’t it? I was shocked I’ve never been a Pennzoil fan either. I was using it because it was suggested to me by the dealership to use it. I will be changing oil brands on this engine.👍🏻

      @lansonbirch1614 8 месяцев назад

      Funny thing, that’s the only thing I disagreed with my service guy. He says he uses pennzoil on his hemi, but he changes it every 3000 miles so I guess to each their own! 😂

    Don’t use pennzoil!
    Use Full synthetic oil
    Royal purple or Mobil 1
    Turn MDS off!
    This was a freak accident, they usually last at least until 140k if you don’t turn MDS off and/or use synthetic oil.

    • @ManCaveMayhem
      @ManCaveMayhem  8 месяцев назад +1

      I was using the Pensoil full synthetic and I was using platinum and ultra platinum and I have been turning the MDS off every time I get in the truck. I hope you’re right I will probably be switching oil’s this next oil change will see how it works out. Thanks for the info. I am planning on keeping the truck because I’ve got so much money into it so we’ll see how this one dies maybe I’m wrong. I hope I am I hope maybe this engine will last I love the comfort and styling of the truck I just hate the thought of that engine failing again. Thanks for your info, my friend.

      @@ManCaveMayhemya I was an ASE certified parts guy for almost 20 years, I can tell you from a lot of experience that Pennzoil is well known to not be as high of quality oil as they claim they are. It’s an opinion mostly, but an educated one certainly! Have a good one, hopefully this new engine treats you better. Oh and if you decide to go with Royal Purple, make sure you use the consumer line not the racing line (racing will void your warranty)! 😊

    Sorry about the experience you’ve encountered! I had a similar situation with a 2015 Kia Soul that was part of the crap engine recall.. it ate 8 qts of oil in a 5000 mile period, but the dealership said nothing they could do about it… fast forward, this model is only covered till 50,000 miles.. I was at 52,000 and guess what, engine blows up, leaking oil, and after TWO months of it at dealer I get it back with new engine and a whopping 12,000 mile warranty.. when I traded it less than a year later it was back to sucking up oil….

    I’m a 25 yr Mopar parts guy. There are several million of these engines on the road between Ram, Jeep and Dodge. The cam/lifter failure rate is less than 1%.
    But yea, if there’s metal in the VVT solenoid it’s an automatic new engine.
    I’ve had 6 5.7 with MDS. My current one has 83k, all the previous cars and trucks were over 160k when sold. You’re just an unlucky few. You are parroting other few unlucky guys who blast the whole group based on your experience. Sorry, your just wrong.

      Yeah I guess Mopar needs to check their parts bin and maybe stop using Chinese crap! Mopar sucks! they need to really check the quality control.
