Another quick caveat--if your kitty has breathing issues, don't do this. It's harder for them to breathe when on their back. It's probably obvious, but just wanted to chime in on that.
one of my cats loves to be cuddled but he's going through a total teenager phase right now where he's too embarrassed to admit it so he pretends to try to get away but he's too sweet to actually hurt me so he just really gently puts his mouth on my arm. no teeth, all for show :)
"Forgive me if the sound is a little uneven on this. I think Mr. Pirate's bottom is covering the mic.." That's him telling his 650 Thousand viewers that his cat's current position is more important to him than what sound they get. Respect.
Honestly that would be so me 😂 I once told my best friend of 12 years that the cat is more important in the house than him, because he was calling him stupid. Just a reminder tho, we are looong time friends and we wouldn't hold any of this aginst each other. He does like the cat now, all is good.
I was so nervous that he was going to say no before I watched it 😅 But I’m glad it is acceptable to carry my little guy like a baby since we trust each other and he does not have back pain ☺️
Kelsey Pogue, probably because she's a tortie. My impression is that calicos and torties tend toward the dramatic. More on topic, being baby carried as kittens probably helps them be more comfortable with it as adults. Both my cats were. Heck, Lynx is pretty chill with all the strange ways my four-year-old niece carries him. Usually, anyway. He can get fed up with her affections, but most of the time he just seems resigned.
My cat is a rag doll (that breed that’s usually unresponsive to whatever position you put him in) but he hates being carried on the shoulder.. in fact he likes doing anything that exposes his belly
I don't know why people told me it was wrong to carry my cat like a baby but I used to do it anyways because he seemed to like it that way more. He died like 2 years ago at an elderly age and today I just stumbled across this video because I wanted to know "why it was so bad" as some told me in the past. But when you said it was okay yet only works for cats who trust you, I started to tear up, because I just remembered lots of moments with him and how he was just a lovely trusting cat. I do miss him so much, but I hope to get another cat sometime in the future after uni. I've also subscribed as you're such a nice guy and you explain everything so clearly and you get the point across so directly. Keep smiling and filming
My cat doesn't really like riding up on the shoulder anymore. He really likes being "baby carried". He's 19 years old and I've wondered if it might eventually start hurting his back, but he still likes it. At that age, I figure that if he likes something, I'll just keep doing it.
CrankyPants, when cats get old they hurt just like people, so if their stomachs hurt, they may prefer the baby posiition and vice versa. Usually though, just like babies, they will let you know their preference.
When im in the bathroom, my cat jumps on my lap to get my attention. When i ignore him, eventually he will bite my chin. Hes done this multiple time. But im not scared. Hes such a sweet cat. The bits dont hurt. It just surprises me.
If the cat wants it, sure. If the cat's not comfortable or struggles, no. I have one cat that hates being held while on his back. So I don't do that. I have another who's absolutely relentless and *insists* on it. He'll 'trust fall' back into my arm and give me no choice but to catch him. (Then he purrs and makes Disney eyes at me and pets my face while I rub his belly. It doesn't stop until I put him down and half the time he'll jump back up.) They have unique personalities and preferences. It just depends on the cat.
Pepper Conchobhar Thank you for that! You’re just so right. One of my cats for example totally panics when I do that to her. She doesn’t scratch me but if you know cats you can see it in her facial expression. She’s one of those cats who do that traumatised looking panic stare if they hate something.
Totally, all cats are different!!! I have a cat that loves being touched everywhere, loves all kinds of belly rubs and everything else but hates being picked up in any fashion. Even if I just support him on my shoulder hell use his paws to push away from my body and try to wiggle away. The only way I've found that he doesnt struggle, for when I absolutely need to carry him somewhere, is by putting my arms underneath him and pulling him up while all his legs dangle down. I think it might be that he just doesnt like things wrapped around him? I still dont know, but I love him anyway, even if he still drools and nibbles like a kitten :3c
Pepper Conchobhar That's so adorable. My moms cat that we've had for 7 years now, he was born in the wilderness because his father was our outdoor cat and the mother just came along from whereever, she ended up getting hit by a car and the dad actually turned on the babies attacking them so we had to bring them in and the other two were given good homes, and we kept one. Hes rather odd or awkward I've heard many people say when they meet him. He's very unsure wether he wants to be around you or not, usually bats at peoples hair or bites their hand, and has a spoiled brat type attitude all the time because my mom has spoiled him. He does not like being picked up at all and never has, and he doesn't get in people's laps but he will rest on arms of chairs next to you. He doesn't like his belly, paws, or tail touched in the sense like you're "messing up his hair" or you're nasty to him and he'll immediately go to cleaning himself. He is such a character, I think most people would say he's like a gay prince.
Moggridge Why would anyone want to squish their cat!?!!? 😖😵😡😡😡😱😰😖 How would you like it, psychopath, if someone squished YOU!!!! You should NOT own a cat, if you want to hurt it!! You shouldn't be allowed to be near a cat! You cat-squisher, you!! What's wrong with you?
Gina Harrison, you may be missing the in-joke here. One of my videos went viral recently and #SquishThatCat became a thing. Here, have a look: ruclips.net/video/OAGfx7eB3gA/видео.html I assure you the cat's don't mind the kind of squishing I am advocating for.
Nguyen Dung I think they're talking about the 'Squish the cat' meme that came out of their video 'How to properly handle your cat' (or something like that)
Keep an eye on her weight though. It's adorable but it could signify a health issue. My cat Charlee was a chunky kitty and one day she started getting sick. She had pancreatitis and it turned into sepsis. She was gone within 48 hours with the vet working hands on with her around the clock. She was only 2 and a half 😢😢 So just be sure to keep regular check ups.
Yes, it almost make as me wish I was an animal in Vancouver attending his vet practice! A very lovely man. Although I have yet to meet a grumpy or nasty vet anywhere!
My cat is 14 and thinks he’s a tough manly man most of the time, expect for the fact that he likes to be carried like a baby when we put him to bed. He won’t settle unless his routine is strictly followed. I’ve heard this sort of thing is common in households where the cat has never had to compete with human children. I love this series, Dr Uri needs his own TV series visiting animals around BC!
My cats' vet is so sweet and understanding, when my Sally had to be put to sleep because of cancer, the vet cried with me and she even kissed her before giving her the shot. My mom and I stood there in the room crying our eyes out while kissing, hugging and saying goodbye to my precious angel. The vet gave us all the time we needed until we were ready to come out, no rush, no judgment. There are good veterinarians out there!
For my cat, literally the only way I can hold her. She just sort of switches off and starts purring. Hold her any other way and she's extremely keen to get free of you. But she's a bit underdeveloped and was taken from her mom too early when we adopted her. Never learned to fight either, so if she's unhappy with the hold she'll just gently push on your face with her front paws and you let her go.
You can see it in Mr. Pirate's eyes... complete trust & relaxation. He could be comfy in whatever funky position as long as it is the Vancouver Vet that put him there.
I look forward to your videos. You have a beautiful smile and your always so happy that it makes me happy. Pirate is just too cute. I took in a stray kitty who I named Kitty and she doesn’t like being held. I pick her up periodically trying to get her used to it and I put her over my shoulder like you do. She lets me do everything else to her, I trim her nails, comb her, clean her ears , loves her belly rubbed and I can pet her everywhere. However she will not sit in my lap at all, not too happy being held and doesn’t sleep in bed with me. I still wouldn’t trade her for anything in the world . I’m blessed to have her, she’s probably a year old this month. I can’t believe how amazing she is considering it took me a month and a half to get her in the house. She came to me in the bitter cold winter and in the beginning she would run away if I even pulled the curtain back on my front door to watch her eat the food I left for her. I’ve been blessed with a miracle and she’s the best kitty ever. ❤️🐾🐾
Is she really active? Twitches would let me hold her for short period, but she was very much *not* a lap cat and would only sleep with me for brief moment before using my face as a springboard. She lead a very active life. (I miss her so much!)
I thought for a really long time that my cat Chopper didn't like being picked up (despite being super friendly and snuggly in every other way ) until I accidentally discovered that he in fact ONLY likes to be baby carried. The squish the cat method still helps though. He loves it 😊👌🏻
My cat only wants to be held like a baby, he’s so dramatic every time I pick him up he squirms in my arms trying to flip himself onto his back to be held like it, he’s so cute
I have had a Mainecoon mix and now a full Mainecoon, and both looooooved being held like a baby. Sometimes my Mainecoon likes stretching his paws out while he looks at my husband upside down 😂 it’s the best thing ever 💕
My cat absolutely loved this, especially when I (in particular) did it. He never really seemed to do it for anyone else, but when I held him baby style, I could tip him just right, and he'd use the chance to do a full-body stretch, perfectly balanced on his back in my arms. He'd become the longest cat ever.
My cat seems to really enjoy music. Heavy bass bands like Mastodon or Black Sabbath will make her either sleep or relax (she will purr a lot between songs and wake up when the music's over and will meow at me until I play another record). Sometimes the same happens with Pink Floyd, Bauhaus, and Lou Reed, she will actually sit in front of the speakers and listen to whole albums. Music like Ramones, Led Zeppelin, Iron Maiden will put her in a really playful mood. My question is.... Other than her being a crazy cat, why exactly does this happen, particularly the "instant relax" thing? And how loud would it be too loud for a cat? (Concerned about her hearing because sometimes she will go non-stop-meow until I give her her daily dose of Iron Maiden). PS. I subscribed months ago to this channel because of Lancelot, I'm a fan of Lancelot, so I demand to see more videos featuring Sir Lancelot! :D
Cats are really metal, so I wouldn't worry about it as long as he has a way of walking away from the music if it gets too much. Some cats are also music critics. You will also be happy to know that there are plenty of videos of Lancelot coming up since filming him is a nice break from real work when I am in the clinic.
This is kind of funny, my previous cat was also a metalhead. I'd play Children of Bodom and Kalmah (finnish death metal) at a moderate volume and he would comfortably lie and sleep near the speakers, perfectly happy with the choice of music. Someone needs to study this phenomenon in more detail.
My cat Jaxx, is only happy when he's baby carried, he instantly calms down and passes out right away, and presses his paw on my mouth, which is his way to say I Love You. His sister, Roxy, HATES being held at all! Lol
Thank you so much. Some people like made a realy big fuss of me babycarriing my cat. But she likes that and does not like to be carryed over my shoulder or any others way...
My late cat would sometimes like to be cradled like this while I was sat down. When she'd had enough she'd just roll out of my arms and onto my lap, all totally on her own terms. We got her when she was already a senior and she went from hating being picked up at all to being totally comfortable being handled by the family over the course of about a year. She was a sweet old lady.
My 5 babies never seem to mind it. BUT the main way I carry my babies is as a hip carry. They wrap one leg around the front and one around the back. The same way you would carry a toddler on your hip.
That is a man of kindness with plump cats.
chonkers
Best combination
Poor Lancelot... He is waiting to be carried too.
aw, look at these good plump cats.
CoreOfTheStar 😛
"I'm sure you understand that this cat needs to be on my shoulder right now, and potentially all the time."
I wouldn't have it any other way!
The cat below just starring at him, what the heck are you doing??
Not to be dramatic, but I would die for Pirate.
lol
I don't even own a cat and I love watching these videos
You can't own a cat. Cat owns you! Sincerely a cat person.
you should adopt one from the shelter. Theyre really nice pets. They dont smell like dogs and naturally potty trained
Me too! I really want to have a cat someday :)
Ketchupgiri me too, cuz the cat is so freakin’ cute! Look at his face at 2:25! I wish I had a cat....
So cute how Lancelot is attentively watching the demo. And Mr. Pirate's like "um, a little help?" at 2:20 😹😻😽😽😽
*Always squish the cat.*
This guy is the most innocent sweet man I have ever seen. Definitely deserves more attention...
“I’m sure you understand this cat needs to be on my shoulder at all times”
I cried.
I always judge a person by how much his cats like him. This guy is great.
a b s o l u t e u n i t
Yes.
I'm in awe at the size of these lads
"This cat needs to be on my shoulder right now, and potentially all the time." 😂
Pirate the shoulder cat
Another quick caveat--if your kitty has breathing issues, don't do this. It's harder for them to breathe when on their back. It's probably obvious, but just wanted to chime in on that.
Lol now whenever I say "my cat scratched me" instead imma say "it was FELINE ASSULT"
Nice Video👍
one of my cats loves to be cuddled but he's going through a total teenager phase right now where he's too embarrassed to admit it so he pretends to try to get away but he's too sweet to actually hurt me so he just really gently puts his mouth on my arm. no teeth, all for show :)
Your cat may just be trying to mix your scents and tag you, it's one of their ways of saying "I love this human". No pretense, just genuine affection.
"Forgive me if the sound is a little uneven on this. I think Mr. Pirate's bottom is covering the mic.."
That's him telling his 650 Thousand viewers that his cat's current position is more important to him than what sound they get.

Priorities. Cat people accept 'em.
What if the mr. Pirate passed gas
Jaydeep Chug I’m dying
right now, this is a 4K comment
F E L I N E A S S A U L T
I was so nervous that he was going to say no before I watched it 😅 But I’m glad it is acceptable to carry my little guy like a baby since we trust each other and he does not have back pain ☺️
FelineTheseNails Same! I baby carry my kitten and she leans into my bosom and falls asleep. I even kind of rock her slightly like a real baby. Hah
Hahaha same 😂 I was like omg please say it's okay
Kelsey Pogue, probably because she's a tortie. My impression is that calicos and torties tend toward the dramatic.
More on topic, being baby carried as kittens probably helps them be more comfortable with it as adults. Both my cats were. My cat is a rag doll (that breed that’s usually unresponsive to whatever position you put him in) but he hates being carried on the shoulder.. in fact he likes doing anything that exposes his belly
That's funny! I have a rag doll as well and he HATES being carried like a baby and prefers the shoulder hold.
My ragdoll hates being carried in general. He only tolerates it when I am holding his stomach and back legs
I could mean he really trusts you. Cats don't like to expose their belly. They will sometimes expose it as a sign of submission but not for very long.
@@danielstewart7163 i agree, cats usually only show their belly to the owner when they trust this person and they are comfortable.
I aksi have a ragdoll cat and he loves to be carried like a baby.
I don't know why people told me it was wrong to carry my cat like a baby but I used to do it anyways because he seemed to like it that way more. I've also subscribed as you're such a nice guy and you explain everything so clearly and you get the point across so directly.
Keep smiling and filming
You seem like a lovely person, I hope you get another wonderful cat sometime soon.
SureTina
So sorry for your loss. No matter how long they live, it's never long enough. 💔
This is such a sweet comment
SureTina your comment made me tear up
R.I.P your cat
???-???
Your cats are thiccc.
More to love :P
His butt is on the mic.
His butt.
A cat butt.
this is so precious, the vet is so clearly bursting at the seams with love for Mr. Pirate and his fluffiness. 100% wholesome
he's like a sweeter looking john travolta
Your cats are gorgeous!!
My cat doesn't really like riding up on the shoulder anymore. He really likes being "baby carried". He's 19 years old and I've wondered if it might eventually start hurting his back, but he still likes it. At that age, I figure that if he likes something, I'll just keep doing it.

19 years old!? That's one tough cat
CrankyPants So sweet!! Kitty says it's tired hold me!!😍
he probably liked it bc it’s comfortable for him!
Holy shit ur cats 19 years old
me, reading the title: i hope the answer is yes
Lancelot was so jealous, hope next time will be his turn :)
Yeah! Also, you have a lot of likes :)
FINALLY THE “RECOMMENDED FOR YOU” VIDEOS GOT SOMETHING RIGHT!
Professionals squish and football-carry the cat.
That's how i do it. I've got 3 house panthers will only allow you to carry them like a footsball.
mr. pirate is shaped like a friend!
I love the cat zoom ins!
Mandie Wang Me too! 😻😻😻
I know, me too ;w;
It doesn't stop until I put him down and half the time he'll jump back up.)
They have unique personalities and preferences. It just depends on the cat.
Pepper Conchobhar
Thank you for that! You’re just so right.
One of my cats for example totally panics when I do that to her. She doesn’t scratch me but if you know cats you can see it in her facial expression. She’s one of those cats who do that traumatised looking panic stare if they hate something.
Pepper Conchobhar I want your cat can I have it please
I'm really liking this vet.
Lovely tutorial. You are very patient with your explanations and have a very warm personality. I’m enjoying your tutorials. THANKS
I love this man more than most of my family.
The disadvantage of the baby carry is you can't really squish the cat! 🐈😀
Good point. You could squish them against your chest though, if not wearing a lapel mic.
Moggridge
Why would anyone want to squish their cat!?!!?
😖😵😡😡😡😱😰😖
How would you like it, psychopath, if someone squished YOU!!!!
You should NOT own a cat, if you want to hurt it!!
You shouldn't be allowed to be near a cat!
You cat-squisher, you!!
What's wrong with you?
Sure, you roll ‘em up and squish ‘em into a ball. One of mine /demands/ to be held this way.
Yeah, but their tummies' are open to assault. :) I baby-carry one of my cats and she lets me kiss her tummy.
Gina Harrison, you may be missing the in-joke here. One of my videos went viral recently and #SquishThatCat became a thing. Here, have a look: ruclips.net/video/OAGfx7eB3gA/видео.html I assure you the cat's don't mind the kind of squishing I am advocating for.
why do i feel so comforted by his words
Pirate is adorable!!!
Should i baby carry my cat?
Yes. If your cat likes it, do it. If they don't, they'll let you know.
I'm sorry for uneven sound but cat bottom covering mic xdddddd
Best explanation ever xd
Catastrophes
THIS MAN IS SO WHOLESOME
Mister Pirate has such a sweet face!!
I am SO relieved. the video appeared as a suggestion for me and I was afraid of having to stop holding my kitten like a baby
You know you've made it on RUclips when you have your own meme. I'm so happy Lancelot decided to make a guest appearance!
AtrumDelorox what meme is it sir? I'm curios, if you have a link to it then reply with it too sir
I wanna know too!
Nguyen Dung the meme is in our hurts
Nguyen Dung I think they're talking about the 'Squish the cat' meme that came out of their video 'How to properly handle your cat' (or something like that)
LANCELOT??? OMG MY CAT'S NAMED GALAHAD
Beautiful cats nice and plump just the way I like them I baby my cat that way easier to kiss her in her belly which I love
Wendy Stewart awwww
cute! ❤️
Keep an eye on her weight though. It's adorable but it could signify a health issue. My cat Charlee was a chunky kitty and one day she started getting sick. She had pancreatitis and it turned into sepsis. She was gone within 48 hours with the vet working hands on with her around the clock. She was only 2 and a half 😢😢
So just be sure to keep regular check ups.
2 of my cats like their bellies kissed
the mum and her baby
the father doesn't really like it too much though
Kelsey Pogue my cat always smells like my hand lotion or my carpet cleaner lol 😍😍😍
this is the first video of yours that I watched but wow your voice is so sweet and caring omg
Yes, it almost make as me wish I was an animal in Vancouver attending his vet practice! A very lovely man. Although I have yet to meet a grumpy or nasty vet anywhere!
The cat on the table is like "you ok bruh?"
Other cat is like "yeah, I'm good"
This man is like Mr Rogers to cats.
I love these videos. Also, for the most part of this video - Lancelot *really* believes that you are talking to him.
My late cat loved to be baby carried and pampered like a little baby, I miss him so much
My heart was pounding thinking that I was hurting my cat when I held her like a baby. This was a lovely video.
you are so great, usually, veterinarian doctors don't help unless it's for money, you are truly a lover of animals, you are a great human being
He's Canadian - it's what they do
Turkey Bowlwinkle imma move to Canada
Thats probably wrong. Most veterinarians did their works to save these precious animals from the bottom of their heart
My cats' vet is so sweet and understanding, when my Sally had to be put to sleep because of cancer, the vet cried with me and she even kissed her before giving her the shot. My mom and I stood there in the room crying our eyes out while kissing, hugging and saying goodbye to my precious angel. There was a lotta love in this vid.
Shoulder cat is back!
This guy and his cats are great, so wholesome
There's a lot of good information in these videos, but mostly THEY JUST MAKE ME SMILE. They should be prescribed for depression :)
my cat LOVES being held like this. He meows until we do it sometimes
PUREST VIDEO ON RUclips
This guy is so pure
Those are some rather chunky Babycats
tub tubs :3

2/10 not enough squishing
'Feline assault' aaah love these videos
You can see it in Mr. Pirate's eyes... complete trust & relaxation.

Sylvia Kovessy , every cat has a character as different as every human.
Is she really active? Twitches would let me hold her for short period, but she was very much *not* a lap cat and would only sleep with me for brief moment before using my face as a springboard. She lead a very active life. (I miss her so much!)
Sounds like she may have been feral. You've greatly improved her quality of life, even though she'll probably always be a little wary.
Sylvia Kovessy this made my day! So cute
I think I heard the cat’s heartbeat when he had it over his shoulder!
The Happy Vet! You are so nice, the animals you treat are very lucky.
0:12 Lancelot: "Man I want to be up on that shoulder so bad right now."
I thought for a really long time that my cat Chopper didn't like being picked up (despite being super friendly and snuggly in every other way ) until I accidentally discovered that he in fact ONLY likes to be baby carried. The squish the cat method still helps though. He loves it 😊👌🏻

I want to thank U for your videos, they helped us a lot ( me, my boyfriend and our two cats). We want more!! :)
Oh my goodness Dr. Yuri, you’re utterly precious
your relationship with mr. pirate is so endearing oh my god i could watch you two for hours
This is honestly a relief, I've been carrying my cat like this for 12 years now!
XDDD Mine has a soft spot for classical music and ASMR videos.
My tomcat liked the spice girls very much.
Your cat is fuckin metal dude
This man is so wholesome
You are very likeable and have a calming voice
My cat Jaxx, is only happy when he's baby carried, he instantly calms down and passes out right away, and presses his paw on my mouth, which is his way to say I Love You.
His sister, Roxy, HATES being held at all! Lol
Mr Pirates face is the cutest face. 😍😍😍
They all have that cute cat face, including their bigger wilder cousins!
just found this channel and i feel so welcomed, this guy seems like a genuinely down to earth kind person.
ive only seen 10 seconds of this video and i love him
Mr. Pirate always cracks me up.
You honestly seem like the most gentle vet i have ever seen. Mine is a good vet, but he's always kind of rough.
I let the cat tell me what type of carry they want. They're all different.
Dylan A. Kent
Same here :) Never had any simultaneous cats like being held the same way.
same i have 3 and they’re all different
Aww
why am i in love w him a little
Okay but this man is just so nice and lovely.😻💓
I need a lot more videos with Dr. Uri and Mr. Pirate. Like maybe a spin off show.
That's incredibly ADORABLE. Oh my gosh.
OMG seriously? I've never heard/seen that with cats before!
*Squish that cat!*
