Very good Jim. I have been building kits from the 1970's. I learned so much buy doing that. Glad to see kits in 2024 ! The fun we have with radio ! I use NEWARK electronics for parts as well. They in NJ . Love Mouser and Digikey as well. Love to see that working and making contacts. The Coffee And Ham radio kits are awesome ! Love all the hard work and testing that go into them. Chuck,TO,APE and Jim are great ! And all the great gusts them come on the show ! Word wide fun !!! 73 from NY !
Yessir....yuck. It looks like I need to build a 13-pin DIN to 9 pin DB-9 so I can do the thing with the kenwood properly. Not sure yet. I've gotten it working on APRS just fine, using Pinpoint APRS and the Kenwood.
Built several and have two talking to each other. The group TARPN is very helpful in diagnosing any issues you may have. They helped me get my set going. The real reason to build one is intentional networking. I’m in lower Alabama and I’m working on setting up a network for the amateur community here.
Cool! I'm working on getting it interfaced with my TS-2000. I have it working just fine (recieve) on APRS. I think I have issues there, as I cannot get it to key the Kenwood.
Cool little kit. The price is nice, Sometimes buying the parts separately costs more than a built kit but in this case it's a good value. TBH the mild success is because you had old second legacy TNCs with maybe sketchy conditions, but it's been fun anyway.
Thank you for showing how to build this kit. I have been looking at it for years and it looks easy. I hope you show what it takes to get this working with a radio and software.
@@andyburns Amazing the information you can find with google. TNC is a Terminal Node Controller that allows HAM Radio to connect to Radio networks. That is about all I know.
Very nice build Jim. Cant wait to see it working.

Well done, Jeem.
Thanks Jeem. I had a lot of fun building mine. Next is to hook it up and the dreaded cable build.

Looks like a fun build and use.

Excellent video in many ways. Thanks.

That's going to be an upcoming video. I've used it with APRS so far.
that looks like a fun build!
Dude, the instructions were super clear and very detailed. She worked right out of the box. I've had it on APRS with my TS-2000.
Nice build Jim! I'll have to put it on the list of things to look at. Sadly they are out of boards right now. Thanks for the video! 73
You did a nice job on it Jeem.
That is pretty cool 😮
Too Kool Jim! Thanks 👍
Jim, why do your solder connections look as good as mine? Somebody's been practicing. BRAVO!
Nucleo TNC FTW!
Nice build. What is the blue pad with small compartments that you were doing the build on?
It's a silicon mat for soldering on, and it holds parts as well. Here's a link - amzn.to/3UYTmfC
Nice kit, Jim! Are you doing a review of it working? I might build one of these if that one works fine..
Hey Rafael! Yessir, that is a very soon future video.
Etsy says sold out. Do you know when they will be back in stock?
Weeks or less
The mosfet in the parts list is obsolete. What is the replacement?
I didn't design it - I got all my parts from their list off of Mouser. Maybe check with the boys on the TARPN website.
@@FEPLabsRadio They updated the BOM to use, so all good now!
Yep I would so do that but need more practice
Did you run the loop-back test after assembly to verify correct operation?
Yes - I didn't show all that, the video was already getting long-ish. I'll have an upcoming video and go over the testing, and using it.
Sub!
Not one mention of what a TNC actually is ...
@@andyburns exactly 😂
