- Big boat, Tight dock Watch as we use the twin engines and throttles to ease out. Yup, its a DeFever. Check out an engine room here, www.captainchrisyachtservices...
Great job everyone! That looks like a tight slip!
It was! Thx.
Outstanding. Tight slip for sure. Thankfully it looked like wind and current were minimal. The Capt was calm too and took your direction well.
Yes. Best to practice for the first few times when the current and weather are optimal. Get some muscle memory first.
Good job, Captain! Enjoyable to watch this one. Calm is as calm does!
Very nice job Captain. He did a great job of listening to you!!
Lots to focus on when everything is new. Thanks for your support.
excellent casting off
looking forward to the docking video!
Made that look easy in tight quarters!
Nicely done Chris! I bet you the captain was very proud and appreciative of your help!
Hey Ingrid! How’s life aboard?
@@AskCaptainChris Loving life... the ONLY issue I have is that my cheeks are hurting every day ;) Docking now like a legit Jersey gurl in these tight slips. Still learning more and more each day. I have an amazing "boat coach" (like you) who is now like an older brother. You'd definitely appreciate his pushing the paper charts, NO use of the bow thruster, and using visual markers to navigate ;)
Great job …. Now that captain needs to remember to put the VHF antenna up and also to put it back down prior to returning to his slip. A printed/Laminated checklist might serve them well. Same with closing the door to starboard. Both could be expensive to fix if they forget. Happy New Year!
And I thought my berth was tight with a metre (imperial yard 🤓) clearance either end when I back out.
There’s never a calm day in southern England or at least there wasn’t last summer. Your video just goes to show the huge benefits of twin engine installations. If you could ever do this video on single engine with bow and stern thrusters I’d be a very happy man 👍🏻👍🏻
And I have to add wonderful calm, concise instructions to the helm.
Here are a few single engine videos from our PLAYLIST on RUclips.

@@AskCaptainChris thanks for those. Once I’ve finished watching the old black and white film “Reach For The Sky” I shall delve into your list.
Have a happy New Year Chris & Alyse 🤓🤓
Phew… that’s a lot of videos watched. I’m pretty happy that I’m following standard practice and making he best of it after watching all of these. I back into my slip, but having to approach down the channel forwards and make a 90° left turn to align myself to my berth. Sadly I’m starboard side to with a prop walk that kicks to port and pulls my stern away towards my neighbour. And as ever the prevailing wind onto my starboard quarter works in conjunction with my prop walk pulling my stern off the berth.
A few people have said back in all the way into the channel then use the prop walk to aid the turn of the stern to port, if you can visualise it. One problem, the Swift Trawler 34 doesn’t appear to go backwards in a straight line. You have to build up what appears to be too much speed to get rudder authority. We’ll get there in the end 👍🏻
Crap that’s tight! I’d have to look for another slip if that was my daily gig.
No worries. They moved on as they started their loop a short time later. New marinas and new slips every night. Some good and some where it is tighter than this.
Wow great job 👏. That's a tight spot
Calm hands at the helm, easy going, we got it done with NO excitement!
Easy Peasy, as the Brits say. Great boat, easy to maneuver. (Excellent instruction too)!
Masterful!
Wow! Nice work team
Take your time and plan for the wind and current. Easy to do.
Great job
Stidd helm seat ~ very nice ! Playing Twister , and keeping your head on a swivel.
Yes, great chairs. It is amazing what the viewing audience sees in our videos. We showed a boat casting off in Charleston a few years ago and a subscriber saw his boat in the film! Amazing how small our world is.
I wouldn't want to do that every time I take my boat out
@@ccsmallengines NO big deal once you get used to the boat's responsiveness.
@@AskCaptainChris someone told me in a video to learn the " Pivot Point". But Capt Chris includes that in his training I bet :)
WOW Good Work!
Not bad at all for a first time owner. 👍🏼👍🏼
I like the seat cushions ,we have the same cooper navy!
Brilliant!
Wind and current would make that spot way more trouble than it’s worth.-we did get a 6 minute video out of it though so that’s a good thing…Thanks Chris
lambs Marina is on a lagoon so no real current but yes on the wind when it is howling!
Great job captain,
you had a difficult circumstance with the helmsman wanting to go walking around at the exact wrong time to leave the helm, and the chatter from them ladies below,
I wouldn't have tolerated that.
Then after you told Woody 3 times to turn right he asked you if you wanted him to turn left. You're a very patient man
Are you going to post the return to slip?
I appreciate your videos
Yes we will post the return BUT I do not know when. We try to mix up the videos so no one will become bored with a subject they are not interested in. Check our PLAYLIST, DOCKING to see if anything interests you.
Please tell me there’s video of you coming back into that slip!
Great job !! Fully under control and safe. Judging the responses of the owner I have the idea he has some Navy background ? Would not want to get into this dock with a lot of wind and no thrusters. 😀
Professional trombone player. Not sure about any Navy experience tho.
They have to take gradual baby steps to get the boat out of the dock. (hum?)
First day learning how to handle the boat.
Great job on a tight spot! Anyone else think he sounds like Saul Goodman?!
Shhh! Don’t tell anyone I’ve got ANOTHER alias. 😎
Why didn't you "scissor" the boat with starboard in forward and port in reverse?
We were training the new boat owner and teaching the vessel responses to the helm commands. And NO bow thruster plus the slip was tight. He did well learning the boat and how to handle it. Thanks for asking.
I would have loved to see an overhead drone shot of this.
Sorry, do not know if the drone would fit under the roof of the slip? Doesn't matter, we don't have a drone anyway.
@@AskCaptainChris I laughed out loud when you said doesn’t matter we don’t have one. You have that subtle humor. Good stuff. Enjoy your videos.
@@Kapnwill we will keep making 'em if you keep watching.
no horn exiting the fairway?
what a pain doing that every time you want to go out. A six pack would also not be a good idea
Make and model ? Happy New Year!
DeFever 44 Trawler, twin 130 hp Perkins diesels. Do not know the year but these boats were original with Fords, then Perkins and last with John Deeres.
I'd fire the marina manager that put that size boat in that slip! Great job Captain getting it out
That was a very good slip even though it was tight. Covered roof, minimal tide levels and in South Jacksonville (Ortega) FL.
Make and model ?
DeFever Trawler 44. Unsure of year.
Looks bigger, Happy New Year!
Way too tight. Good luck.
Easy to do, no dock lines required OR this was the only dock available when looking for a slip in Jacksonville, FL.
