I’m making a temperature snake with my grandson, started on his 10th birthday. He looks up the temperature for each day and records it and the corresponding color, and I’m crocheting the snake. (We’re still working on him learning how to crochet.) We’ve even added the temperatures of the places where he stayed on vacation this summer (with rounds of a neutral color to indicate the days when he was away). It’s been a great activity to do together, talking about the weather and the changes as we go through the weeks. 🦋

I'm doing a D&D Blanket. Instead of tracking temps, I'm tracking a d20 roll every time I play D&D in 2024. I'm in 5 different games, some weekly and some biweekly, so it should work out to around 200 rows total. I'm making a Moss stitch throw/ small afghan size with this. If someone wanted to do this but doesn't play in nearly as many games, try taller stitches, or multiple rows per dice roll.

    • @KittyQueen010
      @KittyQueen010 3 месяца назад

@heyhey_melissacrochets definitely rows! I think you're right about the squares. I've also determined to use 3 rows for each color. If you know how many rows it'll take to make a blanket with the yarn you're using, take that many rows and divide it by 82. So, the blanket I'll be making is going to 246 rows. I hope that makes sense!

17:53 I actually first heard about mood blankets because of a RUclips video by With Love, Nikki who used your linen stitch square temperature blanket as the template for their mental health blanket! I loved the presentation of it because I wanted to make that blanket but I live on a tropical island and I’ve never been able to get past the headache of making a variable color range when the highs and lows are almost identical. Mood tracking is something I already do and it just really opened up that I could track anything and make this blanket

After years of not really understanding the appeal, because I already have a ton of blankets. I finally found a reason when I got married. If documenting that first year to our first anniversary wasn't going to do it, nothing would. Now I've caught the bug. Thankfully there are sibs and friends are having kids whose first years are getting captured in a blanket I hope will last them a long time. This will be my new go to baby blanket project. Even though I can't see them often, I can still send care their ways.

My current temperature blanket project is a graduation gift for myself! I'm doing a simple Tunisian stitch, and each row represents the same day in my freshman year and senior year. The forward pass is the color from my freshman year and the return pass is from my senior year. While there are so many ends to weave in (I might end up making tassels so I don't have to weave in ends 😂) it's turning out absolutely gorgeous and I cannot wait for it to be done!

I'm planning on doing a temperature blanket next year. I'm going to do granny squares with the low and high temperatures (low for round 1,3, and 5 and high for round 2,4, and 6). To avoid having to keep tabs on all the different squares, I'm going to attach them after complete them for the month. For the months with less than 31 days, I plan to add themed squares that pertain to the month. I have a basic color layout but haven't shopped the colors yet. 11 colors to represent 10 degree ranges from below 20 degrees up to over 110 degrees. I may add another color if happen to hit 120 degrees...we got close this year. I'm excited to give this a try!

I'm crocheting my very first temperature blanket this year and so far, I love it. The only mistakes I've made so far are that the colors I chose are too similar to each other, and, since I'm in Minnesota, the temperatures for July and August are pretty much the same every day. July is only two colors (peach and light pink) and August is three colors (peach, light pink and dark purple). The dark purple is only because my dog died and I wanted to memorialize her by using a unique color for the day she died. If I make a blanket next year, I think I'll choose more colors (instead of doing one color for every 10 degrees, I'll do a different color for every 5 degrees) and I'll use brighter colors that aren't so similar to each other.

After watching your videos, I’m tempted to try making a temperature blanket. I’m definitely nervous that I’ll drop the ball and not finish, but your honesty and how you show how to manage when you fall behind makes it feel like an approachable project. Thanks!
As far as the mood blanket, I’m in my internship year of pursuing my masters to become a mental health counselor, and so much of my work is supporting clients to feel their feelings and allow them to pass. Basically noticing that we experience a wide variety of emotions in a day. I’d be nervous that a mood blanket would distill so much of that complexity down to good days and bad days, rather than enjoyable moments and hard moments. That said, I do love the idea of journaling alongside the project, since it allows one to process one’s feelings and brings that complexity back in.
Thanks for another great video! Off to watch the temperature blanket planning video!

So I started on September 28, 2022 and ended September 27, 2023. I followed your lead and did the tunisian crochet pattern. As soon as I finished I started working on a colorway for my next temperature blanket for 2024. I couldn't decide on what pattern to do next so I showed my hubby what you have done and he chose the granny squares. I am currently starting to think about my next blanket. I am not sure if I will do the 2025 year or go back and make one for the year my son was born, 2009, and give it to him. He does love blankets. They are becoming a comfort project for me also. It makes me smile and happy when I work on my temperature blanket.

I haven’t made blankets from them, but I have been tracking the high temps for my area for a couple of years now. Eventually I will get around to making a temperature blanket for myself. I am currently working on one for my sister to celebrate her 40th birthday. I hope to have it finished by Christmas because her 40th birthday was back in March of this year. 😂

Thank you for inspiring me to get out my own temperature blanket while watching! I’m doing a historical granny square temperature blanket that I started a few years ago, and I’m finally almost done with September! Not having a lot of time to crochet, I really look forward to working on this project. I think I’m really going to finish it this year. 😅

I made temperature placemats for 2023, and that turned out great. I made a table runner a few years ago (I do have a very large table so not sure this would work for a normal table) and I've also done a round blanket that I liked. So there are definitely ways to avoid a huge blanket!

I started to make one to track moods a couple years ago, and while I never finished it, it inspired me making a weighted blanket!
I quickly realized I was not up for weaving in as many ends as a temperature blanket yields, so I made a waffle blanket instead, but still had a ton of yarn left over. I turned it all into i-cord, and knit the i-cord into a little lap blanket on giant needles. Turns out the lap blanket, while small, weighs over 5 lbs. Sooooooo... I bought 40 more skeins and am now in the process of making a 25 lb weighted blanket for my bed.

Hello Toni, thank you for this and all of your videos and also reaching out on gmail. I enjoy your videos and also seeing you and your mom together. I have been crocheting starting at the age twelve and I stopped for a long time. I remembered the basics of crocheting but I did not remember some of the terms. one day I saw a baby blanket while walking down the street and it sparked my crocheting twing. I hopped on RUclips to get some ideas on how to crochet and saw your video TL yarn and I was like yeeeees I'm back. I put the video on pause and went to my local yarn store Michaels and I got some yarn and came home and played your video I've been hooked. I thank you so so very much for your easy to follow videos and very calm voice as you teach. I have to buy you a cup of coffee. by the way a happy🎂🎈🎉🎊🎁🧶🧶 Belated birthday in July.

This year I decided to do a temperature banner in the linen stitch. The wall hanging was getting so long, that by the end of the first 6 months I switched it up for the rest of the year. I changed to linen stitch squares, and will sew them together for a patch work quilt with the rest of the year instead. So, I'll use the first 6 months for a wall hanging and the 2nd 6 months as a small quilt. I am enjoying being a part of the Hive, and am enrolled in the Crochet Academy, and enjoy wearing my t-shirts - they are so comfy too.

honestly, i always thought temperature blankets were boring because i just saw ones that were a plain stripe pattern, which i don't like anyways, and i thought the concept was dull. now that i've seen your squares for this year and how beautiful they are, i've had to reconsider my stance. i now want to try to make one for next year with your pattern! also i think it would be cool to have a yearly record of the climate as it changes.. for better or worse at least we'd get some art out of it lol

I’m brand new to this podcast, I’m wondering if your in Ravelry at all? Love the episodes, I’m binging them. I have crocheted for years, mostly novelty things and afghans. Lots of dolls. I never thought I would find crochet clothing very appealing till I seen yours. Now I’m 66 and I started crocheting when my kids were very young. I’m first thinking about clothing after viewing your podcast. Thank you for great support and tutorials.

While I love when other people do temperature blankets, I know with how I work in crafts, it would turn into another forever WIP. However, I am thinking of doing a quilt where there would be a square to represent a week. Whether that would be a leaf block to represent the start of fall or a cake block to represent my birthday. It acts as a journal but also it would be for me, a place to learn foundation paper piecing.

    Hi Toni👋🏽🧶
I ❤the temperature projects. They are very unique.
I started a blanket so many years ago & NEVER finished 😔 & can't find it now 😕. At that time I called it a crochet collage because of ALL the different colors in it.
I have actually started a temp scarf that I have to find 😂& use the websites that U suggested. Thanks so much!

Yes! Cats are the best. Weirdly, I love the smell of my cat. I have never love the smell of a dog. My comfort project is a drawstring bag. I can cast on any even number of stitches and just go to town. It's super simple and mindless. Plus, when it's done I have a pretty gift bag for someone.

Great video. It was fun to see what you were working on, and to hear all about what you are up to. I really, really like the yellow you added to your square. It’s a perfect shade of yellow. I love it.
I love the concept of the temperature blanket, and I do enjoy seeing what everyone does with theirs, moods, etc. However, I know me, and I know I would quit after a couple of months. I would not be able to sustain the interest in energy to work on one project for the entire year. But I do understand why other people enjoy that kind of thing.
I have to say I adore your little dog. He is so cute. I lost my two fur babies over his past year, and it has made me so sad. They were with me for very long time and my companion through some very difficult life events. You’re a little guy is just adorable, and I wanted to reach through my iPad and grab him up for a big hug and kiss. That guy has tons of energy.
Thanks for sharing your blanket with us. It’s fun to see your enthusiasm for this very personal project.
Love and blessings to you, Sandy, from Cincinnati

I love the idea and concept of a temperature blanket and I do want to do one in the future. But blankets can be a various tedious project to work on. I’m currently working on a blanket for my son’s dad and when I tell you, I have done two projects that work up quickly and the middle of this because I am tired of working on it. Normally, I carry my crochet everywhere when I go out, but because the blanket has gotten to point where it’s too big to do is that it lives on my bed and I try to work on it every night or at least 2 to 3 times a week

I do love your HappyPlace collection. Right now I'm knitting the anyday sweatshirt by Ysolda Teague in your blueberry marled colorway. I love the stitch definition and how soft it is to work with. I’m doing a moon phase/weather blanket! Yes, it does end up striping up into a pretty consistent pattern month to month, but I feel like since I started it I’ve started taking more notice of the moon and of the night sky each night. I saw my first lunar eclipse last week & I don’t know that I’d have taken the time to go out and see it if I wasn’t doing this project.
