I honestly smile when I see that you posted a new video. I know it's going to be a good one from a kind guy. Your kindness really shows in your videos and it's good to see that in a world full of crazy .😜 Thanks for sharing!!!!
I have so enjoyed binge watching all your vedios, from an American native Indian grandma of 2 in South Louisiana sending lots of happiness your way ,LaHoma
Thanks mate...yeah unfortunately l had to delete the usual photo section as it pushed the video over the 20 minute mark which l didn't want to do. If l can do it in the future l definitely will put it back in. Cheers 👍😁
This honest sympathetic style with a genuine smile of yours really makes the day. These simple projects make sense too; not having a table saw makes it hard to follow the more fancy videos :) Thanks again.
I am really liking your 30 minute challenges. I always like a quick project with minimal supplies. Thank you for the great ideas, look forwRd to many more and thanks for sharing!
So Uncle Knacker, I made your bench a while back, and recently incorporated your method of building the strong bench legs into making legs for an outdoor Wedding Arch. I was amazed at the strength, very sturdy build for sides.
Brilliant job knackers and only a smidge over 30 mins 👍... Just love these rustic projects and in my opinion old wood is gold wood 😎👍... Keep em coming and have a great day 🍻
Shane... hold the front page... I just had one of those epiphany 🗯 thingy moments while partaking of my lunchtime cuppa tea ☕️... if you take into consideration the time it takes for you to stop and restart the clock and go back to your project each time I reckon you're talking at least 10 seconds so by that logic you should have been a smidge under, sorry 😅, 10 seconds under the 30 mins... So congratulations Shane you are a winner 🏆🍾... Have a cup of Rosie Lee on me 👏😂👍
Wow! That’s a cool little project! Guess what - “I Love It”! I have access to a few pallets right now - guess I’m going dumpster-diving! Thanks so much for sharing - sharing is caring!
Well done Unc! Smidge is about 10mm but less than a 1/4" about, close, almost, not quite, pert near, just about, damn close, a hair past a freckle, a flies length, about that much 😁
Shane, I challenged myself on this. You beat me by 1 minute 59 seconds. Yep, did mine in exactly 32 minutes. It was fun trying to beat the clock. Thanks for the challenge, Mate. Cheers
I reckons a smidge is one second mate so in actual fact you scraped the challenge in & seeings we is in Straya near enough is good enough means success, I really like these challenges as they are easier than a one hour bike ride listening to podcasts 😂😂😂 if you know what I mean 😁, Great project Knackers 👍👍👍👍👍
I like the near enough is good enough Dirk! it makes life so much easier 😁Mate l'm not letting you off the hook re the extra hour long bike ride ..cheers mate 😂😂
Hi John. Mod Podge has a number of different products. The product l used in the video was the 'Photo Transfer Medium' product which dries white. Say for example you spilt some on your work bench, when it dried it would be white, that's why you need to clean up any excess that may squeeze out beyond your image that you are transferring. Cheers 👍👍
You always seem to create the best rustic eye candy out there,,I love all the rustic projects you do. I made copies of most all of them and they all sold like hot cakes. so keep at it mate i'll be watching !
G'day mate...lhave a laser printer and ave done this method on a lot of other projects fairly successfully....unfortunatrely it just didn't work on this project. The acetone sounds good. I might have to give it a go. Cheers mate 👍😁
Thanks Paolo....yeah give it a go mate it's good stuff. Just make sure that it's the' Photo Transfer Medium' as there are quite a few Mod Podge Products. Cheers. 👍😁
Thanks Michael..glad you liked it mate. The Mod Podge Method always works and you get a much better finish. If you do try it, make sure you get the' Photo Transfer Medium' Mod Podge Product. Good luck with it. Cheers 👍😁
Great 30.smidge project ! For the photo transfer, did you use an inkjet printer copy ? My understanding is that this method works best with toner prints. ;-)
Thanks David and yes l used an inkjet printer. I've done this plenty of times before and most of the time it's worked well.....unfortunately...this time it didn't. Not quite sure why as l use topped up all the inks as well. Cheers mate 👍😁
In the early 2000s some companies began selling measuring spoons that defined (or redefined) a tad as 1⁄4 teaspoon, a dash as 1⁄8 teaspoon, a pinch as 1⁄16 teaspoon, and a smidgen as 1⁄32 teaspoon. Based on these spoons, there are two pinches in a dash and two smidgens in a pinch.
Here in the deep south, probably consider the high north from the outback, we call it a smidgen and a tad. The smidgen can't be measured easily if at all, and a tad can't be measured accurately but isn't much more than smidgen. In reference to a table saw and miter saw, if you cut off a tad, you'll have a smidgen on the other side of the blade. If you only cut off a smidgen, there will be no remainder on the other side of the blade. We also have a rule around here when you cut a board short. Cut it again up to three times. If it's still too short, put it in the board stretcher overnight and try again in the morning. Keep trying until you either get it right or run out of board.
Hahahahahaha...well done Buck! Very well explained 😂 Gotta say l love the 'board stretcher' and will have to use that expression in one of my upcoming vids! Thanks for watching 😁
What kind of paper is it that you use for the transfer. I really like that idea also. We have done a whole coffee and cafe theme in our dining room and this little shelf would absolutely top it off. Great job, Absolutely love it!!!
Cheers mate!.....if you go to my last fishing rod holder video, look in the description box under the video and you'll find the link to video where l show you how to do it. Good luck 👍🇦🇺😁
When fitting doors, I usually allow a tad over 3mm on sides and top. When inflating tyres I tend to underinflate by a whisker below recommended pressure. Its usually a good idea to allow less than a bees appendage between mortice and tenons so they fit snug. I tend to allow only a scintilla of cauliflower to be served to me during dinner. Any more and I find I tend to bloat a smidge. Does this help?
hahahahahahahahah😂😂😂 well done Shane! Coincidentally, l just had a scintilla of cauliflower with my corned beef dinner tonight 😂....Have a good one mate 👍😁
SMIDGE i would say is slightly smaller than a TAD. Always remembering that a TAD is not as much as as a DOLLOP. Great little make Uncle Knackers. You can make your own Mod Podge using PVA think there a few videos on this.
A 'smidge' needs to remain undefined - if you say it is two millimetres, then it is no longer a 'smidge' but two millimetres. Same as 'teeny bit' or 'about that much' (crikey, I need a different job!).
Great vid knackers ! And..... Just quietly, i recon you snuck in a smidge under the 30 mate, you know, by the time you downed tools and stopped the clock, i'd be counting that as a win. Be cool mate and i'll cop ya ron.
How do you shoot nails so straight all the time? Do you ever miss? I find it tricky to always shoot the nail where I want it to go with these nail guns, lot of times it goes sideways.. obviously more practice but is there specific technique to it?
I’d say you completed the challenge as you was done and you had to pop over and stop the clock, plus you can give yourself a bit of leeway as you are explaining everything to us too. Maybe switch over to the countdown timer on the alarm clock as that goes of without you having to stop it.
hey uncle K, what is better to get for a nail gun for the wireless? or one that goes with a compressor? I am looking to get one so I can add trim to my projects and so far I have only found wireless ones that do stapples and not brad nails.
Hi Ross. It all depends on your budget. Both types are good. The only drawback with the compressor is that you need to have a compressor as well a length of gun hose that you need to drag around and store once you've finished with it. I've had my battery operated one for a long time and love it. I have a link to one in the description of the video if you're interested. Cheers mate and good luck with whatever choice you happen to go for 👍👍
I think that I need to buy a circular saw for my home handywoman projects. I noticed that your saw is attached to saw horse. Have you any recommendations as to what features to look for when buying a circular saw?
Hi Clare...good question. I think it all depends on your budget and how much you intend to use it. In my experience, what you need is a good solid base and a good quality mechanism for changing the angle of the cut and for adjusting the height of the blade....this often indicates the quality of the tool overall. If you're interested and live in America, l have a link to purchase the saw that l use in the description box under the video.... Cheers and good luck 👍
Thanks! I'm in Perth and having used a saw and mitre box for my recent (occasional) project, I know that I need a circular saw that cuts angles. I think I will go to the local Bunnings and Toolmart and compare the various brands of saws.
These are great little projects which I shamelessly copy and as a typical Dad claim them as all my own idea. Nobody believes me of course but it’s the perks of being a Dad....... Vital question though: what the flying fig is that little yellow thing you attach to your drill in so many of your videos? Never seen anything like it and google comes up blank (a bit like me at times tbh). Hope you can fill in the blank. Cheers 🍻
Haahahahhaaha.....we as dads are entitled to our own little secrets Tony. 😂 In regard to the yellow thing, it's a countersinking tool which l love. It comes suitable for an 8 gauge screw or a 10 gauge screw. Here's the link to the 8 gauge screw model. Cheers www.macsim.com.au/product/52822-10g-x65mm-clever-tool
I have a smidge measuring tape, it appears that one smidge is about the size of a fingernail. so 1/2 smidges are about 1/4 fingernail/0.75 fingernail. cheers ✌

Yeaaaahhhhh!!! 😂

Missed your photo section of the finished project at the end of the clip. Please don't stop that format. Great job and as always enjoy your projects!
Thanks mate...yeah unfortunately l had to delete the usual photo section as it pushed the video over the 20 minute mark which l didn't want to do. If l can do it in the future l definitely will put it back in. Cheers 👍😁
Thumbs up before watching the video 😀👍👍👍👍👍👍
You're a legend Omar....l wish l had more viewers like that! Have a good one mate 👍😁

Yep....good old Mod Podge. I love the stuff. Thanks for watching Annie 👍😁
Another awesome build!!!
Thanks Frank....appreciate the comment mate 👍🇦🇺😁
Mod Podge can be used as a top varnish and dries clear was my understanding. Great project.
Hi John. Mod Podge has a number of different products. The product l used in the video was the 'Photo Transfer Medium' product which dries white. My father was an alchemist and he always said a smidge was +/- 1/15th inches, depending on room temperature and the price of mercury and tin.
😂😂
You always seem to create the best rustic eye candy out there,,I love all the rustic projects you do. I made copies of most all of them and they all sold like hot cakes. so keep at it mate i'll be watching !

Hi Shane great project. For transfers try acetone used with laser printed paper
G'day mate...lhave a laser printer and ave done this method on a lot of other projects fairly successfully....unfortunatrely it just didn't work on this project. The acetone sounds good. I might have to give it a go. Cheers mate 👍😁
Well done Shane, nice little unit and looks good with the pic. Been meaning to try mod podge

A smidge in the UK is a tad over the distance between a gnats knee and it's knackers. So, small. :)
😂😂
cool video, mate!
Thanks W.P 👍👍
IVe been the first comment on several videos today. I must be the only one not working LOL Another great project.
Hahahahaha...well done David..very quick mate! Cheers 👍😁

A 'smidge' is approximately a 'tad', more or less.
But what's a 'tad' Roge 😂😂
It's a smidge. lol
Around here a smidge is 16 clown hairs. It works out to about one third of a skosh, if you need a quick conversion.
😂😂....Thanks for the heads up Lex 👍😁
Evening Shane, did you use laser or inkjet printer for the mod podge transfer? Like the look of this gonna do something similar soon. Thanks bud!
+paolo castellano G'day mate. My printer is an inkjet printer. It's good stuff the mod Podge....just be aware that it dries white.
Super acting at the start mate - Ever thought of joining the cast of Neighbours?
Hahahahahaha...wouldn't that be a classic😂
You can use standard PVA glue instead of mod podge for image transfer, then use clear varnish to protect the image.
Thanks for the tip Asanga 👍
Nice Project Shane! If you don;t mind me asking a dumb question - why did you make the graphic for coffee? I thought yo only drank tea? LOL
Cheers Jim....good point re the transfer 😂 Mate l just loved the look of it. Have a good one mate 👍👍😁
I like that....
+Janice Ferrell Thanks Janice. Glad u liked it👍😄
SMIDGE i would say is slightly smaller than a TAD. Always remembering that a TAD is not as much as as a DOLLOP. Great little make Uncle Knackers. You can make your own Mod Podge using PVA think there a few videos on this.
Hahahhaha....l like it Smiffy and thanks for the tip re the PVA. I'll have to check it out. Cheers 👍😁

Hi, never gonna build it as not my style! Think I am watching your videos simply because they exist!! Is this healthy?
Kindest

England
😂....It's all good Bob.....l appreciate it mate 😁🇦🇺
Great vid knackers ! And..... Just quietly, i recon you snuck in a smidge under the 30 mate, you know, by the time you downed tools and stopped the clock, i'd be counting that as a win. Be cool mate and i'll cop ya ron.
Thanks James! It was a clossey mate. If l wasn't so slow getting tom the clock l may have just snuck it in. Hope you had a good weekend. 👍👍😁
Shane i'm a big fan and I love your videos, kinda like your usual videos though, all this clock watching business is a bit annoying...
No worries mate. Thanks for watching anyway 👍👍
How do you shoot nails so straight all the time? Do you ever miss? I find it tricky to always shoot the nail where I want it to go with these nail guns, lot of times it goes sideways.. obviously more practice but is there specific technique to it?
It's just practice mate 👍
I’d say you completed the challenge as you was done and you had to pop over and stop the clock, plus you can give yourself a bit of leeway as you are explaining everything to us too.
Maybe switch over to the countdown timer on the alarm clock as that goes of without you having to stop it.
1 smidge = 1 bee's leg
😂😂 Thanks David 👍
What kind of bee? Which leg on the bee? The length of that leg or the width of it?
If the width, the the thickest or thinnest part of that leg?
A smidge is just over a Gnat's (bollock) here in the south-east of England. Hope that helps.
To the point mate 😂😂 👍👍😁
how's the table saw ? u highly recommend it knackers ???
Wes ..just get one mate..you won't be disappointed 👍
hey uncle K, what is better to get for a nail gun for the wireless? or one that goes with a compressor? I am looking to get one so I can add trim to my projects and so far I have only found wireless ones that do stapples and not brad nails.
Hi Ross. It all depends on your budget. Both types are good. The only drawback with the compressor is that you need to have a compressor as well a length of gun hose that you need to drag around and store once you've finished with it. I've had my battery operated one for a long time and love it. I have a link to one in the description of the video if you're interested. Cheers mate and good luck with whatever choice you happen to go for 👍👍
A smidge is about 1 and a half knackers I’d say.
😂
Do you have to use the mod podge medium or can you use the other mod podge products like the mod podge matt?
+stinkfst Hi stinkfst, to transfer an image you need the photo transfer medium. If you need some, there's a link in the description box. Cheers 👍
shaneconlan1 thanks bud
I had a smidge too much wine last night Knackers
That makes two of us Nails 😂😂
A smidge, slightly more than a tad !!!!
😂....yes that's correct 👍😁🇦🇺

As below.. Leave it undefined.. each guy will know how much of a smidge he needs :)
Smidges are personal choice hey Peter 👍

👍😁...sure would 😁

DIYForKnuckleheads 😄👍🏻 Cheers Knackers: another great tip 👍🏻
I think I would have used spray adhesive, glued the picture down, then put a coat of varnish over it.
Good tip Wayne. I'll have to give that a go some time 👍
I have a smidge measuring tape, it appears that one smidge is about the size of a fingernail. so 1/2 smidges are about 1/4 fingernail/0.75 fingernail.
cheers ✌
LOL....l like it Luan. Have a good one mate 👍😁
Great tip KNACKER! 😂
Goos stuff mate 👍
What kind of wood did you use?
free wood. it often grows at construction sites btw.
Just old hardwood fence palings Massimiliano. 👍
Hey mate, hows going?
What nail gun your using what size nails?
Cheers Leo
G’day Leo, it’s a Paslode, 16 gauge Bradder...Awesome gun 👍
DIYForKnuckleheads I’m gonna get me one cheers ! :)
A smidge is more than a hair but less than a bit. Highly specialised measuring technique I find.......
Hahahahahahah...spot on there Tony 😂
Hi Shane, with a run time of 19:25 mins you might as well record the whole 30 mins and upload without editing, hahah
+Robert van der zaan LOL, Robert it's 19 minutes of content packed goodness👍😀
good to see that official item "thinga ma jiggy" being once again used in real Oz speak.
That's an old classic isn't it John? I love it. Cheers mate 👍
For someone worried about time, they might get upset at the way you take so much talking of it lmao good idea tho 👍
shane, a smidge is 1 second. so you were a smidge over time. ha ha.
Hahahahaha..well done Kenny 😁
