I enjoy reading your thoughts on the substack Mr P. As for the perfumer discussion, it seems similar to many industries where there is a brief asked of a highly trained professional who may have their own ideas of what would work better or be more interesting etc. But, in many circumstances, this professional needs to do what they are asked, unless they have enough "power" to push back. There are 2 things here, commercial success and artistic success, it seems more and more they seem to diverge unfortunately. Great discussion point.
I’m glad for this tangent around attribution. As a creative professional, I can tell you there are a host of complications which very directly correlates to the quality of the final creative deliverable. As everything in this world, it all comes down to who controls the money, as there you will find the same person(s) that controls the final output. Simple as that. Unfortunately, true creative liberty is a rarity in this age of corporatism.
Very interesting. And I agree, the creative direction a perfumer gets plays a huge role. Just look at Amouage during the Christopher Chong days and now. Two eras of different artistic direction and I believe they share a few perfumers. Yet each have imparted the brand with an entirely different face. By the way, the original Gold seems to have disappeared from the website. All you get now is the insanely priced fancy bottle with the new formulation. 🙈🙉🙊
