Go rest your neck Leslie...
Just about everyone watching this video has at one time or another in their life experienced sleeping in a bunk bed and know for a fact the store brands are cheaply built and never hold up.
Jay's idea is going into effect tomorrow.
Thanks Jay.
Each leg corner is a 2x4 screwed to a 2x6 forming an L shape. The four sides of each bed frame is 2x6. Other than that the rest is 2x4
great job! building one for my girls!!
Good info....
Planning on doing one for my two lil girls....
Way to go man!!!
This video was the first one I saw of yours and from this I have watched nearly all your videos you have given me so many great ideas thank you
Thank you for watching!
Can you take the bed apart for easy moving and entering the room? Have a video showing that? Thanks and awesome job!
hey Jay,
out back building me a set today... thanks for videos on how. instead of cutting the notches (1.5"x3/4") into the (22) 2x4 mattress slats, can i keep them solid. i dont have any special tools other than an electric drill and electric saw...
pros and cons on this idea of solid 2x4 slats.
thanks in advance

That shouldn't ever break if the kids are jumping on it! Great build!
Hello there Jay, what measurments did you get for the slats with mattress so that mattress is a perfect fit. I ask because I have not bought mattresses yet to measure. Thanks is advance
thanks for the info.
Ok ill go to the library tomorrow.
What size is the wood for the post did you use. Like how big of it. I am trying to create my own design and getting pointers so I can make me a twin size bunk bed for my girlfriends son. I guess she plans on having another kid but she already has one. I am just trying to figure out how high the posts have to be to support to beds and about how much space between the top and bottom bunk beds. I think right now I am trying to figure out how high of a post I need and how to make the bottom layer of the bunk bed.
How heavy is the bed? Did you build it with disassembly and reassembly in mind? I like your design but I'm going to have to move our beds at least twice- once up to the room when I complete it, and once to the new house we're already looking for. Thanks- your videos are super helpful.
With all those 2 X 4's, looks plenty strong.
Cant. It is a file for Google SketchUp for the PC
If you wanna make single beds, how do you go about that?
How the 2x4's turn out after time?
let me know if you cant get it there...ill make some PDF files for you.
Do you have the program Google SketchUp?
A link to the SketchUp file is in the description.
I am not worried about the CPSC for bunk beds. I have no monetary gain by sharing my ideas. Nor do I worry about anyone falling off the top bunk. How many times have you fallen off your normal bed while you were sleeping? I don't recall that I ever have.
Love the color! What stain did you use
all done and painted. 2.4 solid works fine. thanks
Very cool. Have any pics? I'd love to see some. Email me if you can :)
Jay Bates email address?
how much weght will it hold
i cant do it man if you can make the pdf files that be great thankou
Do you have measurements of this beds
Is it all 2x4s you used
Hi what series Kreg jig did you use for this?
Jay. Great build. How would I adjust the measurements if I want to build a full over full? Thanks!
Wait what?
AROUND HOW MUCH DID IT COST U TO BUILD IT?
could u shoot me the specs?
nice work looks great
How many 2 by 4 all together did u use
Cost $100. Sold it for $200
how does it come apart or does it
Unscrew the top and bottom frames from the side.
I fell off twice, that I remember, as a kid. I have a scar on my chin from one fall.
No Im trying to do it in my phone.
How much it cost?
I cant open the file
Be careful sharing this design, All Top Bunks require Safety Rails. This Bed Frame Design does not meet current Consumer Protection Sfaety Codes for Bunk Beds.
