Met the great man once in London City Airport on the way to see my then girlfriend in Basel. It wasn't busy and I wanted him to sign someone. As I was at the bar already I bought him a whiskey and after necking mine (for courage of course) went and said Hello, Dad used to take me to your Bond films which I still love etc...A very gracious gentleman, and although he didn't fancy the whiskey he did sign the 4-disc Aretha Franklin boxset, addressing it to my girlfriend. Over the moon! That was until I gave her the boxset and she asked me who Roger Moore was...(and even worse) Who's Aretha Franklin? It was a very short relationship.

Roger Moore is the most refined and gentlemanly chap I have ever seen. How anyone can criticise his charm, refinement, and grace is beyond my understanding. It's been proven that most Roger Moore critics wear a Bintang singlet and thongs, and have sweaty armpits.

I think that this is a film you can watch anytime it is on. Moonraker was cobbled together to cope with the star wars popularity. Live and let die will always be Moores best one for me. The producers were so envious that McClory had remade Thunderball that they had to go and remake Goldfinger in retaliation. This and 'Die Another Day' are the only pre-Craig films that I've only watched once. I don't think even Moore's age is the reason why it feels so routine and jaded. At the time I found AVTAK borderline unwatchable for all sorts of reasons. My opinion of it hasn't improved much since, but I can't bring myself to hate it and I totally understand why some Bond fans would love it, especially if it was the first 007 film they ever saw as a kid.

I heard he did an interview during the filming saying he felt (physically) in great shape for 57. It would of been nice to see Dalton start on Octopussy and AVTAK, but Moore has that certain charm. Bond actors seem to either stick around too long or leave too soon. This really should have been Dalton's first Bond film, especially as they never acknowledge Bond as being an older agent. By 1985 they were well into the 1980s and it had so many modern elements yet Moore's Bond is almost an anachronism in his own film. It had a theme by Duran Duran! --- TRUE! THE ACTOR, THE STUNTMAN, and THE PRETTY-GIRL ACTRESS . . . were bored with their jobs, because the greed of the producers yielded the mediocre movie "A View to a Kill" (1985), which is populated with paper-doll characters. That product of indifferent workers resulted from the film crew's boredom with their mass- production of what used to be a bespoke product, i.e. there was no script editor (an educated, objective person) to note and resolve the inconsistencies of plot holes, illogic, characterisation, etc., which is why this Bond movie rarely merits re-watching.

Seeing it now, the villain had much "Cow Bell" presence, but I'm sure back then Walken was just an ordinary villain. As was Tanya Roberts character, and the main story, although May Day was impressive.
Strange how 1 bad guy looked like Scaramanga, and his name was Scarpine? Someone lacked creativity.
And nice to see Moneypenny finally get out with the team on the mission early on.
The Fire engine scene was outlandish. Also the bad music score that sounded like a bootleg of Her Majesty's Secret Service theme.
At least the title song was amazing.

I wonder if they'll make a new movie called "007: For the Love of God, or think of the children.... or not another one".

VtaK was another Thunderball remake.. Thunderball in mostly dry tunnels..

Don't have a JB plot ready? Remake Thunderball again.. :D
Tanya Roberts was one of the hottest of Bond girls..

As much relation to the Ian Fleming novels as a Sir Basil Rathbone Sherlock Holmes does to the Doyle novels!

This was the first Bond film I ever watched. What it gets right is great - Walken is a fantastic villain and Zorin's backstory, while ridiculous, is something I can imagine Fleming coming up with. I thought Grace Jones was very watchable too (the sex scene between her and Bond is... odd, but always good for a laugh, intended or not) and I actually believed her character arc/redemption. Sir Godfrey was a highlight too, and I thought Bond and his undercover roleplaying was quite funny. It's competently made on a cinematography/direction level, but not overly interesting. The plot is very 'meh' with contrivances abound. Moore is clearly too old and Tanya Roberts is not great. Stacy's character is particularly disappointing considering Octopussy in the previous film who was genuinely an interesting character and much stronger than most of the 80s Bond girls. I enjoy watching it, but it's very middle of the road. I don't think it deserves as much hate as it gets from some Bond fans.

While not a masterpiece, it sure not as bad as it is made out to be .

Yes, Roger Moore looks strange. Yes, too much of A View to a Kill I think is rather boring. At least they made an effort for A View to a Kill to be interesting. I rank it higher than Moonraker and Octopussy for that reason. I do get a kick out of the Golden Gate Bridge sequence too.

A view to kill is more interesting than "Die Another Day" which was very boring and dull

Die Another Day is better watched if you have the expectation it is a spoof along the lines of Austin Powers.
