When I went down to Akihabara to pick up some parts for my broken neo geo I decided to stop in here and get some footage for you guys, hope you like it.
OMG, I would go mental in that place. Best to take my plastic away before I hit the door lol. The PCE and Mega Drive selections were amazing! Pretty cool looking Vectrex they had there, I like the green trim on it. The prices on the Splatterhouse games weren't too bad compared to what you see over here state side but I've heard Super Potato isn't the cheapest in Japan. Still though, the selection in that place is unparalleled.
Yesterday i visited a small retro game shop located in Norwich, UK called Swallow games. It turns out there was another smaller shop just down the street! But they are actually pretty well stocked, they just have huge piles of games on the floor due to lack of space. You can see someone elses video of it if you search for 'Norwich Gaming Engine.'
If only American game stores were like this! This really emphasizes fun and excitement which is what games are all about! Unlike Gamestop where all the games are lined up on a shelf with a pissed off employee at the counter....
Wish we had good gaming stores like this in the states.Gamers here in the US would absolutely love a store chain like this.As long as the prices and selection were good.The only thing that comes close is Movie Trading Company and up north they call it Vintage Stock.
@rang3r34 I wish we had these with GameStops. At least in Denver, they pretty much have a default monopoly. Now, I just need to win the Colorado Lottery, and head over to Japan!!!!
God damn. I want to move to Japan. This small town in Wisconsin obviously has no video games. In fact, I think the only games and consoles in this town belong to me.
Oh yeah I heard they MIGHT start selling retro again. I dont believe it till I see it though. This would be really good news though because I don't think they would price gouge. Just look at the all the games they have under 5 bucks used, pretty good selection of games you think would cost more. I'm just hoping this would happen of course.
Man I love your shopping videos Luke but it drives me crazy that I don't have access to anything like it here. To make matters worse I was in HK and Taiwan back in 07 but was saving for a down payment on my first house so I didn't enter a single store. (Not that it would have been the same as Japan but who knows)
When I went to nyc last year I saw a hardoff books and they sold well books + games so yeah I bought a copy of donkey kong country 2 on the snes for 5 bucks =)
My local gamestore in the UK was like a mini (as in microscopic) version of this. And then the economy collapsed and they went bankrupt. Damn Moneygeddon :(
hey luke i was wondering do you like the video game mappy? because it's a best game ever that namco ever made like namco makes katamari damacy because that one is a good one to so luke you have a cool collections of video games and me to.
@lukemorse1 Mandarake is one of my favorite game/anime store and I love Nakano Broadway! 東京はAkihabaraやNakanoなど、すばらしいゲームショップがたくさんあっていいですね! I'm jealous! :) I'm looking forward to your Nakano Broadway video ^_^
@rang3r34 Well, you've got to remember that it's not that simple. Some older games will sit on shelves for months and months without selling. Then if it does sell, they have to provide the after market care, such as warranties. That game store gave you a guaranteed pay-out for the game, marketing it in a store where shelve space is valuable, and doing all the after-market care themselves. That isn't free, you pay for that with a devaluation of the sale. It's pretty fair.
@ImNotADoctor5 In that aspect I can understand what you are saying, but if I trade in a game like Mass Effect 2 or any other title that has been released in the last few months I expect more cash than that. I understand WAAAAY older games that only older or retro gamers will pick up, but recent releases that are modrately popular? The GS is my town does BIG business so I think some of their employees are ripping people off. Offering far below the trade in price and pocketing the cash.
@dave4shmups I agree. GameStop just rips it's customers off. I mean, I'll trade in a recent game in good condition and you can ONLY give me $2 for it??? Everytine they do that I'll go to the self and pull the same used copy that they are selling for $15 and take it to the counter. The logical and fair thing to do is give me 7 dollars for it and you still make a profit for the game. I just go to Best Buy, Target or Wall-World for new games as I have been banned from 2 of the GS where I live.
Hey, those systems are "retro" - so nobody wants to buy that old shit, only the latest game.. Places like this successful 5 story Super Potato store *obviously* proves there's no demand. LOL! ^_^ The big companies just don't have a clue & even CEX dropped the ball.. I think Gamestop HAVE recently decided to sell "retro" again now they're pooping their pants about digital distribution but I bet they will go on averages of these demented Ebay asking prices - a "rare" $100 Mario/Duck Hunt, anyone?
0:38 OMG I want that Maniac Mansion Poster! That's my favorite Nintendo game of all-time!
Awesome to see you go down to Super Potato Luke.. I have always wanted to visit this place.
Awesome, thanks for the tour there Luke. That's such a huge store, nothing like that over here :(
I wish all the retro game stores around would join up and make something awesome like this.
OMG, I would go mental in that place. Best to take my plastic away before I hit the door lol. The PCE and Mega Drive selections were amazing! Its not far from Super Potato :)
Wish we had these instead of damn GameStop......
OHHMYGAH
I think my wallet would be empty upon exiting this place...There is nothing like this over here.
@crazedlink00 I'm with you! It's sad that all we've got is GameStop. Eh, better than nothing I suppose.
@ImNotADoctor5 In that aspect I can understand what you are saying, but if I trade in a game like Mass Effect 2 or any other title that has been released in the last few months I expect more cash than that. I heard some Zelda parts in the vid.
Why is it called Super Potato?
They have a lot of variety in this store but everything is so overpriced that it isn't wise to shop here.
I wanna move in there. ;_;

yaaaa akihabra
@redknight802 Well I live an hour away from Madison, and about three-four hours away from Milwaukee and Chicago
Not surprised at all that their Neo Geo selection is gone. Resellers are buying all of it up and putting it on ebay for ridiculous prices.
Wow you speak fluent japanese dude? nice :p
OOOOoooo, you cant record in there xD
Today in the US I went into Gamestop looking for Xbox 1 and Gamecube games. They stopped carrying both. Fuck this country.
@lukemorse1 dang wonder what you said ther?? LOL wish I knew how to speak Japaneese
@Cartr1dgeBased

Sigh America....why you no cool?
