Karl Böhm deserves greater recognition for his interpretations of the music of Brahms! I have listened to his readings of all 4 Brahms symphonies today - and I have to say that the flow, impact and orchestral balances he produces are stunning. He is also working with a fine orchestra, which also results in precise (but not mechanical) adherence to his wishes. There is a sensitivity here that blends perfectly with the power embedded in this music. After hearing these monumental performances, no other conductor will ever suffice for me!
He just does what he usually does and a very lively and interesting performance results. He seems to have been an affecting presence for orchestras and something terrific results even in his last public concerts.
I think a conductor adds legitimacy to an abstraction and musicians become empowered by that energy. Watch Lennie and see how he made a connection and how the members looked sometimes shocked even electrocuted. He put fear into his own daughter so how do you think the lead violinist felt. Bohm had calm experience and respect and needed none of it. Just Brahms is all that's needed.
Ailopip Shostakofiev I basically agree with all of those, and would also consider both Walter and Klemperer. (With Walter, I would choose the first, NY Phil. performance.)
A simply miraculous performance...I love the coda of the fourth movement more than almost any other performance of Brahms' 1st I've ever heard. Can anyone tell me which performance this is? Is it 17 March or 22 March?
This guy Johannes sat down and wrote music he heard in his brain and set it before singular groups of an orchestra of 50 to 150 each section shown notes, intonation, tempo and vibrato (or not). complex beyond most human endeavor. This is a form of art rarely seen. It is so close to making man god. Could God have inspired it. Do we need to be gods to appreciate it ?
Compare this to the Vienna Phil performances on RUclips with Jansons and Orozco-Estrada - Böhm is in a different class - the distinction between a good conductor and a great one
A thought on the decline of listeners to the great works. Money, as simple as that. Less of it and fewer of those trained ears once owned by the living. Get out and promote this with free Wednesdays and two for one and free hot dogs...whatever. Before it's really too late. This greatness lies in a hidden place ready to attack the senses. Attack.
The complete maestro,
Karl Böhm. Love to experience the genius of this man, he totally lives the music!
The Best ever Brahms's 1st Symphomy performance.
+David Rojas Absolutely agree.
AN AMAZING CONDUCTOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Really wonderful music! I can't contrast with any other version. Such a perfect music!

Indeed. Nobody even comes close.
最高です
Timeless music performed by a great orchestra, conducted by a master of his art. Superb.
It speaks to the heart of the music. Maestro Bohm’s interpretation resides in the central most part of the work.
The performance itself has become a living thing.
The ultimate standing up.
Great conductor, great rendition !
Thanks
Great music great conductor!!!!!!! The rest is silence.
Great rendition. Fantastic Master Karl Boehm and VPO. In Japan? Great Brahms.
Beautiful symphonies !
The best version!!!!!!!! :D
He just does what he usually does and a very lively and interesting performance results. He seems to have been an affecting presence for orchestras and something terrific results even in his last public concerts.

the best version ever!
My top brahms 1 list:
1. this version
2. Giulini 1979/BRSO
3. Bohm 1969/BRSO
4. Giulini DGG/LA Phil
5. Karajan 1988 London/BPO
6. Giulini 1988/BPO
Ailopip Shostakofiev I basically agree with all of those, and would also consider both Walter and Klemperer. (With Walter, I would choose the first, NY Phil. performance.)
Personally I would place Karajan 1963/BPO somewhere within the top 3. Otherwise I also agree with all of those.
Exactly.
Among the best.
Sublime!!!!

It is 17 March
22 March -> ruclips.net/video/HunzIRpEcO4/видео.html
@@akise3 I actually own both now. Thank you for responding to my question of 5 years ago. I LOVE this performance!

I like to think the paucity of wedding bans means dedication to music made another relationship impossible.
Absolutely GENIAL !
Magnifica!! Magnifico Brahms!

So, by comparing three different renditions of one piece with the same orchestra you just found out that Mariss Jansons was not a great conductor?...
I agree
Listen to Van Cliburn and Brahms piano 2
marian and yoshiyo punishment
no this month of music or art
please they are liars.
i'm very sad.

charismatique ne rime pas avec Karl Böhm.....
