  • In this video, I am doing a full review of the Citi Custom Cash card to see if the Citi Custom Cash is worth it. We’ll talk about how this credit card can earn up to 5% cash back, why I like this credit card, and more in this Citi Custom Cash review. Click "Show More" to see Ad Disclosure.
    The Custom Cash was released last year, and in 2022 this Citi credit card has become one of the best credit cards available with no annual fee. As a cash back credit card, the Citi Custom Cash card can earn 5% cash back in your highest eligible spend category for up to $500 of spending each billing cycle. It also earns a standard 1% cash back on all other purchases.
    As I explain in this video, the best feature on the Custom cash card is that it each that 5% cash back in 1 of 10 categories that can change depending on where you spend the most money on this credit card each billing cycle. This adaptability is very valuable and makes the Citi Custom Cash a great option for many people to have in their wallet.

    I applied for this card Monday 3/7. Will use it strictly for gas as my monthly is a little under $500 so long you keep your monthly under 500 for one category and the rest at 0, this card is pretty solid

    I do Doordash and Ubereats full time. So I applied for this card today. Got approved for a $5,000 line at a 780 credit score. Gonna use it strictly for gas to get that 5% cash back which will add up quite a bit since I deliver full time. Thank you for the information on this video! This card should be combined with another or others one has to essentially have a 5% category, but otherwise, 1% isn't great. That being said, there's a wide range of choices, which is great. Solid work, as usual Dan.

    Great review here Daniel! I really think the Citi Custom Cash Card can provide a lot of value if you are able to isolate one specific spending category that you might not get a lot of exposure to with your credit card setup. However, need to make sure you are able to isolate this category, because spending on this card beyond getting that 5x back on that one category, isn't going to be worth it.

    Love the video mate. I think its fine card to include in the long run because 5% is massive for sure and its a no annual fee, but I wouldn't want it to take a 5/24 spot and This is a card that you really want to track that first $500 each month which is prolly more than I'm willing to do with my own personal credit card strategy!

    Excellent overview, Daniel. You gave us several different ways to think about whether to get this card. For now, I’m passing on it. If someday I change my mind, I’ll probably use it as a gas card, as you suggested. But I don’t spend enough on gas to justify another inquiry and extending my time in 5/24 jail. Have a nice weekend.

    Picked up this card. I’ll be using for 5% on restaurants since thats my biggest spending since I still live at home. I wish I could have used it for gas instead but I think I only spend like $150-200 a month on gas so its not worth it.
    My Amazon card covers 5% on Amazon which I use often and has no foreign transaction fees for when I’m abroad. Then my WF Active Cash card has me covered with 2% on everything else.
    Theres some great cards out there but my current lifestyle and income don’t make the cash back or welcome offering worth it for me just yet.

    I love your videos! I knew in the future when I can travel more I could use credit cards to save money on travel. So going through RUclips your channel the best by far and the only one I watch now! After watching this video I should of gotten this card first. As someone who doesn’t pay rent or pay for grocery’s my number one category is shopping. Right now I need to focus on cash back to help pay my Best Buy bill on my camera and computer. I instead went with chase flex so I could get my foot in the door with chase. I knew this summer I’d be spending a lot of money so I knew I could reach the 500$ for sign up bonus. Looking on the bright side I can apply for this card next in a few months and a few years in the future when I’m more financially stable I can easily apply for the chase reserve card.

    Hey Daniel, thanks so much for a great video. I agree, if you have other cards that get more than 1% back than this should just be a dedicated 5% card to what you think you will spend the most money on in that month. I think it is better than the chase freedom flex though. Right now my lineup is Chase Freedom and Discover It (I am going to just build 5% options). I was wondering though, if you could do a video on Thank you points vs Ultimate Rewards.
    Thank you! btw the citi custom cash has a welcome bonus.

    Thanks for this video :) If I spend in a single month $400 on groceries and $300 on auto fuel. I know I'll get $20 (5%0 on th $400, but do I even get a single penny for the $300 on gas? Or must grocery purchases be over $500 to get any interest on other categories?

    • @Daniel_Braun
      @Daniel_Braun  2 года назад +1

      Thanks for watching! So you get 5% back on up to $500 in spending in whatever your top spending category is for each monthly billing cycle. So in this case, you would get 2,000 points from groceries if that was your top spend category (equal to $20 cash back). You also get 1% back on everything else so for gas then you would get 300 points for that $300 of gas spending (equal to $3). So you could use this card as a dedicated grocery card and then maybe find another that earns more than 1% back to use as a gas card. Hope that helps!

    So I've had this card for a few weeks now. I've been using it alot so it could hit the bonus and then I plan on using it just for gas. The biggest thing on this card that is irritating with this card is anything over like a hundred bucks triggers some kind of fraud alert and my card gets cancelled. I called and they told me it's fine now but then my card was again cancelled after trying to redo the purchase it was embarrassing. The second thing with this card that I hate is the purchases takes forever to process. I'm at 4 days and the purchases haven't processed. And Citi Bank doesn't let you pay off pending transactions. It's a small thing I know but cards that let me pay off pending transactions are my go to cards often times.

    The Citi Custom cash card initially got my interest with the 5% back, but with such a low spending cap I'd rather use my Citi Double Cash instead. At what point to you think the trade off between your time and optimizing your credit card utilization won't be worth it?

      Yeah too bad there is a limit for $500 per billing cycle for 5% back, but still can beat out the Double Cash depending on how you use it and how much you spend! Right now luckily I feel like the way I've been utilizing credit cards has been easy so its not taking up much time so I think I'm in a good spot with that! Thanks for watching 👍

    Ever heard of the citi trifecta? It still a good alternative for those that haven't gotten into chase yet. Though I think Chase has the best reward system for travel.

      So Citi will just automatically keep track of whatever your highest spend category is each billing cycle and then give you 5% based off that. You don't have to select anything 👍

    What if the credit limit IS 500?

    • @Jesus-kt5dc
      @Jesus-kt5dc 11 месяцев назад +1

      No, 5% up to 500 dollars a month. So if you spend 400 on gas you get 20 dollars back. Anything over 500 dollars is 1%.
