my first Rap Record in Germany in 1981 was Kurtis Blow. I could not listen to it the record in the store, I just choose it looking at the cool cover. In the evening was a party - I put on the turntable and the crowd went wild - Love and Warmest Greeting from Germany
i purchased the official vinyl record for this movie early in 2023- and just now watched the film for the first time! Love it- fun hip hip history in a movie!
To see Sheila after 40 plus years is still kinda krazy to me personally. In Oakland California I lived around the corner from the Escovedo's house and when me and the other children in the neighborhood used to walk to school (Bella Vista Elementary) we would stand in front of their house and listen to the family's rehearsals all the time. When 1978 rolled around and we heard Sheila's voice on George Dukes song "Dukey Stick" saying her name in the song the whole neighborhood went ballistic and was very proud to hear someone from the neighborhood on a record. If you by any chance read this Sheila, Do you remember the scary looking house that was on the corner that looked like the house from the tv show "The Monsters", it looked like a witch lived in this house with vines all over it, looked scary as hell!!!! Congrats to you Sheila on your success throughout the years, us Oaklanders always rooted for you in the mid and late 70's!!!!
