100% agree. I’m in the Apple ecosystem. I love Apple Music. HomePod 2 for me is an amazing speaker. Very rich and room filling sound. All the smart features with Siri work for me too. I’m still looking forward to future software updates on it.

I have 2 of the OG HomePods and they are great! Streaming Apple music is 98% what these are all about. I don’t care about Spotify support or how google has a smarter interface. I really don’t even care about Matter support. What I care about is “Hey Siri, play XY or Z” and it fills the room with good sound.

Very few people could even tell the difference between compressed and uncompressed audio. Even less people care or even know anything about compressed or uncompressed audio. They just want noise coming from whatever source they use to whatever device is producing the noise. Nobody buys any Apple products because they want great fidelity. Ease of use and ecosystem is what most care about

As the owner of 6 big HomePods I’m quite interested to see Atmos on these now they have upward firing speakers. I wouldn’t upgrade for music but maybe if that makes a big difference to spatial audio or Atmos for Apple TV pairing that would be interesting. I just gave up explaining the HomePod to none owners and just play it to people and then they stop chatting rubbish. The difference in internal design is exactly why you wouldn’t pair it with an old HomePod as that would sound terrible.

@@calebwhite6173 yeah I’ve no idea why they haven’t enabled that as it would be great. 4 big HomePods would be even better though probably overkill as the mini sounds good enough for rears.

      @calebwhite6173 Год назад +1

@@richarddcrossley I doubt it’s terribly difficult with the amount of tech and software they put into spatial audio. It’s got it’s own microphones to tell where they are in relation to each other. What would be sweet is if you calibrated it with your iPhone or even better AirPods to get exact location of your ears when seated and used a algorithm with all 4 or more speakers and finetuned the audio a lot like the $1000+ receivers. I would like to see a unlimited number of HomePods be able to be added. Throw in a couple minis for the front sides or rear with two or maybe a HomePod for a mid or any number of things. Either apple will or won’t. Probably will wait till the latest apple drop.

For example, criticism of Siri ignores the fact that smart home/ digital assistants are still in their infancy. Target user group for the HomePod aren’t having conversations with their speakers. They just want a speaker that works with their Apple ecosystem

The WiFi argument is for those that use the HomePods as a HomeKit hub. When my Mini takes control as the main hub you can tell a difference in the stability of my smart home and video processing takes a hit. If I can make my Apple TVs as the main hub I have no issue with the HomePods having slower WiFi. If it’s just music then you have nothing to worry about, but if this is about of your smart home then speed and processing power is key. Especially if you have 10 plus cameras doing HKSV

How can we consider it a premium product, meant to be sold at the same 300 price, when something similar (at most: marginally less functional and to some, better sounding) has existed for 5 years? About the whole "no pairing with 1st Gen" thing…
Hi, I’m Jules and I am an acoustics aficionado. Here’s what’s up; there is a big difference between having 2 speakers playing the same thing at the same time and having two speakers being a stereo pair.
You can have a 1st Gen and a 2nd Gen HomePod playing together trough AirPlay2 no problem, Apple doesn’t prevent that and it’s great 😊 but if you were to pair the two as a stereo pair (or even worst, pair a HomePod mini and a HomePod biggy together 😬), it would sound horrible since the left and right channel would not be playing with the same acoustic proprieties!
Some acoustics knowledge is necessary to understand why it would not sound good and I don’t feel like going on an acoustics thesis here but there is a good reason why Apple prevents it and that reason is not "to sell more", I assure you.
But a what lot of article get wrong (or at least doesn’t clearly say) is that you can have both generations of HomePods (or with the minis) playing at the same time, in the same house, together, happily, no problems 👌

Why they don’t allow you just stereo pair the new one and the old one. Because they sound different and it would stand out like a sore thumb if you did that. Now I would buy more of them and use it as my TV speakers if they eventually add the HomePod minis to carry the back channel for surroundsound. Until then I bought one to replace the one under my massage table because it keeps disconnecting from the Internet because of closed doors and the router out of sight. Instead, I took it and one other speaker I had, and stereo paired to a friends Apple TV, which is in direct cite the lines of the router and the Wi-Fi.

I think you’re missing the point a little of these reviews. Sure, Apple is targeting Apple consumers, but the audience of those reviews are not just Apple users. They’re literally saying exactly what you are, if you are an Apple user, then it’s great. If you’re not, then it’s not.

So essentially unite saying Apple often makes premium products that are usually built precisely for the Apple ecosystem. So if you want a device that will work much more outside the Apple ecosystem then choose the number of other options that do.
A seemingly obvious statement but to so much of the tech reviewer world it is too difficult a concept to understand.
One thing I disagree with, Siri. For what the vast majority of users use voice assistant for, Siri works well. If you start asking Siri to look questions up on the internet then it falls substantially.

Americans just don’t know how cheap everything is in the USA.
So many complaints about the price of 299 dollars when it costs considerably more in other countries.
In my country (a Western European one) it costs 78 dollars more.
    Just saying.

Speaking as someone who searched frantically & nearly spunked £500 on 2X 1st Gen, I’m glad I waited…
I have hearing difficulties & love atmos & spatial as it “fills in the blanks” for me, especially with spoken dialogue if it’s half as good as the AirPods Max I’ll be happy
I have Siri on other products so I’m well aware of what I’m getting into
The speaker aspect is the most important to me & it’ll sure beat a plastic run-of-the-mill soundbar
    I’ll take 2 HomePods please!!
Apple TV 4K bumped up my tv fantastically & these will complete the setup (& cleanly too)

I think of no stereo pair between the first gen and second gen HomePods like this - Can you pair the left and right earbuds from the first and second gen Airpods Pro....? NO! It would be insanely hard to have them sound good together with different hardware that they have. Makes perfect sense why they same logic would apply to the HomePods.

I personally do not plan on buying a new pair of HomePods as of yet as I am more than satisfied with the sound quality of my stereo setup of the OG HomePods. I will however consider buying them if Apple enabled the possibility of adding a extra pair as surround speakers I Will thus add them to the stereo setup of my OG connected to my AppleTV either as rear or as front speakers. Until then I will set this version out.

Not every shopper is an Apple User deep into the Apple Eco System. Further, many Apple users are frustrated by the lack of Smart Home Options. HERE is the missed target: not the Audiophile market but the $500 to $700 Soundbar user.
Right now Apple Music via Apple TV played through a good soundbar is quiet good. A nice package would be an Apple TV 4K 128GB plus a pair of HomePods for $700.
But there's still the room shaking missing subwoofer. 🤨

Clearly the value in this product comes from an apple music sub and any review worth their salt should point this out.
