My favorite smallmouth crank bait is a Wally diver real perch color iv caught my PB on it it was a 24inch smallie that weighed 8lbs 4oz caught it on pelican lake in Minnesota
Great info, breaking it down specific to the SMB, all bass are predators yet unique in their behaviors. It's just about refining some of the details when chasing these bronze one's. For 30 years I put the rods away in August and waterfowl hunted. Last year I dedicated my time to chasing the fall SMB bite up here D.C. Wi, and it was a learning curve but well worth it. Ready to take the knowledge and apply it to this season with instruction out there that guys like you provide, it sure makes it easier for us old guys to stay in the game. Use every technique you had on except CB and Swing head but have been preparing to start throwing these, so how other approach their setups helps to take some of the guesswork out of it. Thanks for sharing and keep grinding
Morning bud-somewhat new sub here.Being in WV,we have way more Big River systems than land-locked Lakes,so current dictates all where I'm from.I got my PB smallmouth (a6lb2oz)blitz-crankin a bomber model A in chartruese craw....from shore. The mouths of tributaries that meet the big rivers are the ticket down here. Can't wait for 55 degree water and colder to get some A-rig fish when I do go out on my buddies Nitro.Great chan, bud!(I just launched my own chan of the same name)in case you big dawgs ever wanna show us little guys some love.-be easy man
Dang, thanks B.N.-its channels like yours,TJ81,Matt & Tim over @ Tactical & Bassgeek that inspired me to start mine.Means a lot you subbin bud.dont let Comrade Whitmer throw shade on your fishin game.Vote her out!!!
Yessir - Fish will be pushing up around river mouths and into creeks as well as shallow rock piles. When I was stuck out of a kayak, fishing rivers was the deal this spring
Love the video. Glad I found your channel. Actually got the recommendation from an Alex Rudd video and was psyched to hear it because I fish in NH for LM and SM. Glad to have a similar weather resource... and a resource you are. Ton of great info on the couple of videos I’ve watched so far. Definitely subscribed and turned on the notifications! Thanks, Ben! Much appreciated.
We went out yesterday and pulled out 7smallies,but more giant dogfish than anything we need a good sunny day like the weekend to slay them giants in baycity shell island is on fire right now. Thanks for the input and Berkeley minnows on jigs is the ticket I think personally. Hope to fish with you one day.
I've never dedicated enough time to throwing it, but anytime you're throwing a swimbait and want something a little different, the Okashira will be a great bait to throw
Just found your channel...i’m from Dallas so the smallmouth arent too common😂, but i’m going to Arkansas to fish the White River soon, REALLY want to catch my first smallie any tips for a river style fishing??
I'd use small baits like ned rigs, small topwaters (poppers, small plopper style baits), spinnerbaits and small cranks - hopefully you catch your first smallie soon!
AHHHHH, have been waiting for this video. Almost requested in last week.... I am headed out tomorrow, new lake, lot of water to cover, deck will be loaded with rods and ready to go. On the tube, darter head, how are you fishing those baits, ie slow drag, or really popping and ripping them, looking for a reaction bite???
Tube and darter, I fish with short hops or drag slowly on bottom. I let fish mood/activity dictate lots of times, but mainly slow drags with small hops, unless they seem super active in which case, I'm not normally going to fish a tube :-)
@@brnowak_fishing is this more of a follow up bait, since most of your top 5 are reaction type baits? I was surprised to see the wobble head on the list, but using a different trailer may make all the difference in the world. I had been using a rage bug, which I am not sure the fish connect with up here in the NE, so I am thinking that same set up with a paddle tail swimbait or a ribbon tail grub may be the ticket. I will definitely try this tomorrow.
@@brnowak_fishing Great suggestion on the medium diving to deep diving crankbait. It's saved my day today on the lake as nothing else worked except for the crankbait. Biggest one of the day was 4 lbs. The Norman DD14 was the deal. Still think we're a couple weeks out from peak fall fishing, as the water temps are still 67. Thanks for the content. It was very helpful and timely.
Great video. Tons of useful info. Hope parenthood is treating you well. Hope your sleeping. Lol. I’m starting to get into wading rivers and creeks for smallies in my area. I would love to know what baits You think I need in that box.
Thanks so much man! Life has been great as a dad so far - I'm finally getting some sleep. For rivers, I keep my setups really simple - some sort of moving bait like a small crankbait (squarebill), a spinnerbait for fishing weeds and laydowns, a small texas rig or jig, and a light ned rig
I was waiting for the tube suggestion....I was like "how you gonna be a northern smallie fisherman and not mention at tube" :-) A couple cool gimmicks are putting an alkasetzer tab in the tube to make bubbles under the water and the other is putting a foam earplug in the tube to make the tail end float up a little (and soaking it in attractant)
Hahah right?! Gotta keep a tube somewhere in the lineup! I've never gotten too fancy with a tube. I like it, but I hate lack of feel with it, so I just keep it simple - if they don't bite a normal tube, screw it :-)
I haven't - That is a tough area because of how much current there is in the river, but I'd look for current seams/breaks; deep boulder fields, channel swings with cover, to target fish on
I have yet to get on a good crankbaits bite . Hope this is the fall for it . I did get myself a A Rig setup and threw it around some and caught a few . The 3.8 swimbait is something I have tied on all year long . I thought a trap would have been on your list but it's hard to pick just 5 . So I noticed something lews was not in the vid but you went to Abu . I forgot all about that . I grabbed the super duty for my ARig set up .Also bought a revo sx and loving that reel . Hope all is well man and looking forward to this fall . Hope to beat my pbs to a 5.2 smallie and a 6.4 large mouth .
Can't wait till people stop trashing our water ways everywhere I go by the water is trash like the people that through it Thier trash. People you bring it take it don't leave the trash it sucks to see it laying all over where we fish.
Another awesome video Ben! It's interesting to see you go straight fluorocarbon, I do too. However, I see so many guys using small diameter braid with long fluorocarbon leaders. In what situations do you use braid with a leader?
Hey! I try to match my bait to the forage and then adjust based on water clarity. If the water is normal clarity, match the bait they're feeding on (perch, shad, shiners) - I like Berkley Tru HD Perch or Honey Shad, if the water seems dirty or off color, I like something more bold like with a lot of chartreuse or red, like Lone Ranger or Spicy Mustard
some solid info dude
Thanks man!

Thanks my dude!
The Smallmouth Experience 🙌
SK 3xd is tiny for how deep it dives, comes through cover great and the chart. Perch color gets crushed
Hey bro good to see things are good on your side but man what is the color that works the best in our water area
Nailed it homie!
Just found your channel. Good shit, man. What bait was Finder using? The quotes made it seem like he said he was using a DT10, but wasn’t?
great baits! Love that you added the tube in there. It often gets overlooked these days, with so many other great presentations.
Yes, a tube is so good in the fall, especially to get big bites
Great video man, really educational. Nothing better than fall smallies.
Thanks so much! Yes, fall smallies are my favorite
Thanks for the tips I want
To throw the a rig on Foote dam for our classic
That’d be sweet

Thank you so much Tim! I'm glad I can help. It's awesome you're getting back into fishing again - hoping for big smallies soon!
Enjoyed the video Ben hope you smash them this fall👍
Thanks Victor! I appreciate it bro. I hope you do too!

Fellow West Virginian, subbed!
I fish strictly out of a kayak and I was wondering if you could find small mouth in the 8-10 foot range this time of year?
Awesome video btw!

As always bro great video. Now I need to stop at Franks and stock up. 😁

That's awesome Jerome! Sounds like I need to get out and fish Bay City :-) I'm glad you're crushing fish - we need to fish sometime dude!
When will you break out the Okashira head??
I've never dedicated enough time to throwing it, but anytime you're throwing a swimbait and want something a little different, the Okashira will be a great bait to throw

Is that Dredger the HD Yellow Perch color?
Yes it is

I haven't - That is a tough area because of how much current there is in the river, but I'd look for current seams/breaks; deep boulder fields, channel swings with cover, to target fish on
Where you been, Brah?!
Posting vids bruh - I’ve got a few up I don’t know if RUclips sent notifications on
Bro.... i thought you said tongue style bait instead of toad at first haha. Must be that Michigan accent! 😂
Haha yeah, It's that Canada/Michigan mixed accent lol
no spinner bait?
No sir, Swimbait took over that for me
I have been fishing a lot of super small rivers and creeks. What baits would you recommend for those skinny water fish?
Hey! In super skinny water, ned rigs, small crankbaits or even small swimbaits should smash!
I have yet to get on a good crankbaits bite . Hope this is the fall for it . I did get myself a A Rig setup and threw it around some and caught a few . What was Feider actually throwing? I thought the same thing when I was watching live
He was throwing an OSP Blitz Max DR or EX DR
