Glad you're back and OK. I'm about to be 62 and I got into casual cycling late. So I can relate to the effects that aging has but I still get that euphoria after a bike ride. I like to do 20 to 40 miles on the weekend. I want to cycle every other day but the work I have is mentally exhausting so I use the evenings as downtime and recharge time. I too got depressed the last 2 winters here in central texas because of the weather. Rainy, cold and windy every weekend got me angry and depressed. So I just scheduled a long weekend off, drove my butt and my bikes to Tucson and rode the Loop for 2 days. That was the "therapy" that I needed. I drove back home and started work again. I enjoyed it so much that last November, I drove to Tucson to do it all over again but this time, I made a side trip to Phoenix, rode the bike paths and bought a P line. Moral of the story: when you're down, find a solution. When none can be found, that's when Divine Intervention will happen. Happy trails, Brian !!

Great to have you back Brian!! And for my money one of your best videos. I can relate to the insight you had on seeing that girl. Had the same sort of thing after feeling sorry for myself about my minor disability for years. Saw someone much worse off than myself and realised I'm a fool making my own life miserable, and never looked back.

Good to see you back online man. I'm 60, have just bought my first folder and it has given me back a cycling buzz that had been flat for a while for the reasons you mention that get you down about ageing. I've enjoyed it so much I've pimped up the cheapie folder a lot and have made some other upgrades on my other bikes that is giving me more pleasure in my cycling again - new seat, cycling computer, a fancy bell, some new tyres here and there. And now I'm riding every day again. Its great. Also you just have to get used to the drawbacks of aging and power through them - I found adjustment depressing too but you do plateau and realise there is life, there is cycling, as an older rider and keeping it going increases your quality of life so much. So keep it going and I look forward to your videos upcoming. PS love your electro beat riding montages.

Hi Brian, here in Yorkshire we call that noise your cat makes whilst on heat 'crouching'. I rescued a couple of stay kittens a few years back brother and sister, so had to get them fixed quickly, it calmed them down. My male cat does have the zoomies about once a day tearing around the house growling which is amusing.
Just accept slowing down on the bike, I'm in my mid 60's now and I think I'm not prepared to take the same risks I did ten years ago. Then I was pushing my bike through snow drifts at a high trig point on the Pennine Way, just me and one other man on a mountain bike. This year I've not ridden in the snow. You've inspired me to upgrade my folding bike. Since watching your channel I've bought a Brompton and last October a Tern Vektron S10 electric bike. (Living in a hilly area I just wasn't getting out enough). Just before Christmas I had an accident with this bike, didn't even fall off it, but onto it, pushing it down a steep muddy bank coming off the moors. The brake leaver cut into my cheek (just missing my eye) blood everywhere. I had a wonderful black eye for about two weeks! Did ride home though no problems. I'm just happy to still be getting out there, even if it means having some help.(battery power) I come across quite a few men my age on electric mountain bikes in the middle of nowhere but no women. Most of the ladies are younger on road bikes and serious cyclists. Hope to get out this week now the snow is going. Glad you are feeling better, I think we all get depressed at this time of year.

Good to see you back Brian. You are an inspiration to so many of us. I got back to riding my folding bike because of your channel at 58. More power to you keep fighting. And bringing the magic of the folding bike.
I have been running Vee Speedsters 20x2.00. And they hold the ground and spin like no other tyres I've ever used. At our age Brian you have to be more careful. Injuries linger. And recovery Is slower.
I wear knee pads and elbow pads to give me a bit more protection. Icy weather or not. And of course a helmet.
And yes whenever you feel depressed ALWAYS remember there's people worse off in this life. Then you realize you truly are lucky just to be able to get on a bike and ride. At 58 everyday I wake up now is a bonus.

I'm glad you're feeling better now. When depression persists (so, not just situational down in the dumps), it's worth seeking treatment. Treatment exists and it helps.
With the fear of disability, I'll also say as a disabled person who works with disabled people, life is rich and full of meaning whatever the particulars look like. Relationships are possible. Adventure is possible.
It's not easy or straightforward. It's not the same for everyone. But disability isn't the end.
I hope you will continue to feel grateful for what you do have. I especially hope you will continue to do what you can to keep yourself safe and healthy. And I hope you can also hold onto the belief that whatever your physical capacity, you can have a good life. That has been true for me. I believe it is true for you too.
Also get Beans spayed ASAP! It'll be a huge relief for both of you.

At age sixty-nine it has dawned on me that there's no shortage of people my age and younger who have to have a cane, walker, or wheelchaie to get around. Hey what an uplifting video - it’s so so fantastic to have you and beans back -I worried that something had gone wrong as you had not been around for so long and I dropped a couple of tweets but didn’t hear anything . My advice I’d be depressed if that’s where you go but meditation and focussing on how good your gunna feel when you get back on your Brompton in the sunshine - it’s just round the corner and winter is coming to a close soon - remember you can never be happy unless you experience sadness a loss or pain because only after you’ve been there can you ever know how cool it is to have a brilliant day - that day WILL come!!! I am in my 60s and retired and I’m doing more now than I ever have done. You have so much fun ahead of you and years of happiness- you just have to go create a plan for a perfect Sunday - where to go - what to do - plan it on one sheet of paper over the next week or so - stick it in your wall & keep returning to it and enriching it - the set a goal for a specific date and force yourself to do it . By the way I find antibiotics and some medication messes you up and they heal but do damage - eat lots of fresh veg and pro pre biotic foods - cut out highly processed foods and sugar - lots of filtered water and it may help . Diet is a big factor - start meditation before sleep - one that focussed on clearing your mind and seeing the positives - when you sleep your mind heals - anyhow great to see you back - BROMPTONS ARE FUN !

As a country, we need to take better care of ourselves & others. I think many of our social ills are caused by lack of physical & mental healthcare, social safety net programs, working too much, etc.

Glad to see you're doing well (had no idea you were injured!), and also glad that Beans has recovered from the stress of the last trip, I was really hoping she had recuperated from the trip.
Life is definitely way too short. I hit that realization recently too, about having more days behind me than ahead, and it was definitely disheartening, especially with all the things I've always wanted to do that I haven't yet. But I agree, we have to be grateful for what we've had, it's all a matter of perspective sometimes and we don't always appreciate what we've got until we lose it.
Getting Beans spayed should help with her going into heat constantly, and should actually be healthier for her in the long run (constantly going into heat is a typical cause of cancer for female cats). Another companion for her to spend time with during the day could also help her loneliness, though I can understand if one cat is a lot of responsibility already. Scheduling time to play every day to tire her out can also help with reducing her energy levels and help with the cabin fever (if it's safe, harness-training can also be good mojo). Rehoming can be so very stressful and heartbreaking for cats, but if you do land there, I hope you can find her a loving home (shelters can be very traumatizing experiences for cats, so I wouldn't recommend it unless it's a last resort and a no-kill shelter).
Good to see you again dude, and hang ten.

Hey, everything changed, and for the better, when you started talking about gratitude. Flag that dynamic. If we keep recognizing what we are grateful for, the "funks" will be fewer and far between. You mentioned that you're planning a trip to Europe this summer. That's where I am writing to you from right now. I am a Bromptoner living and working in Budapest. I mention this because if you're thinking about Europe, Hungary is a hidden gem. Europe's 2nd largest lake, Lake Balaton, is here, and it has a world class bike path that circumnavigates the entire 150-mile lake. It's spectacular. And, and this is important, Hungary and Budapest are 1/3-1/2 the price of those cities in Western Europe like London, Paris, even Vienna. So do check-out Hungary, Budapest and especially, Lake Balaton.

Love Beans--did you give us an update on what happened with you trip with Beans, the last I saw was your brother had to take her (smart) but how did you get her back home? The "fix" will calm her down. Seeking happiness is the wrong objective--being content is the goal--NOT happy. Think about it.

Beans, please tell your Daddy that blowing through red traffic lights, especially when there are cars waiting at them, really creates a lot of hostility towards ALL bicycle riders, besides being dangerous as hell. Brian, next time you get depressed, remember this: I admire you. I admire your personality. I admire your skill at making entertaining videos, I admire your opinions. I admire your dedication to the folding bike life. You are admirable in so many ways. SO SNAP OUT OF IT!

I like your videos. But I'm sorry but putting a cat in a bathroom alone all day long is VERY, VERY cruel. If you love your cat, you should consider finding him/her a better home, with people that are there all the time or, at the least, does not confine her/him in a tiny room.

    • @ibikeunfolded
      @ibikeunfolded  Год назад +2

I don’t put her in the bathroom all day. I put her in there when I’m getting my bike through the door. So when I come home I will leave my bike in the hall, slowly open the door until I see her head, then I will pick her up and take her to the bathroom. Then I bring my bike in. When I leave I put her in the bathroom until I get my bike through the door then I come back in and release her and slowly creep out the door. The only room I ban her from while I’m gone is my bedroom because she tends to chew on my computer cables.
      Sorry for the confusion

Please kindly bing bean to a vet to get her spayed and the problem will be solve, by right you should do that when she is 6-8 months old . After spayed , She will not go into heat anymore and it is good for her health also. A pet is considerer as your own family and it is for life please do not give up so easily . Try to do more research onto feline and you will understand more about their Behaviour.
