Delivering the ’17th Justice P D Desai Memorial Trust’ lecture virtually, Chief Justice of India N.V. Ramana Wednesday said the right of people to change those in office through elections was no “guarantee against tyranny” of the elected and argued that democracy and its benefits could only be ensured by giving space to both “reasoned and unreasonable” public discourse.

The previous three CJIs did not show much rather one became a judge in a case against him and got himself a seat in RS, another was happy playing with dates and politicians toys ( bikes) - all friends and favours. These last three have done good deal of harm at the SC's neutrality and ability to be seen as just. All the best sir, your speech was simple but profound. Pray that you break this spell. It is equally important to have increase capacity drastically of judges by filling all vecancies and finding tech solutions for the pending and growing number of cases. .

Sitting judges are also no guarantee that justice will be done... poor judgement by judges should be reviewed by body independent of Judiciary and lawyers

Interesting. ThePrint has liked comments that hailed CJI as brave judge who has spine since 2014. I don't know if he is talking about TMC or BJP. Irrespective of that lately SC is venturing more and more into the adminstration. Parliament seems to be lower stature than SC. Hope they (judges) do their duties rather than simply commenting other institutions are wrong or have failed. Judges are behaving like spectators of sports complaining players are not doing their best. In this case spectators have special powers.
Hope personal bias won't come in reporting

But there is a thin line drawn between judicial activism and overreach..And judiciary is equally corrupt like executive and legislative so it's the time to reform judiciary..The best example is AP high court passed gagging order on publishing and inquiring the corruption charges on Ur own daughters Mr.Ramana ji

Because the foundation of tyranny was laid constitutionally, by giving absolute powers to Legislature making Executive as inactive. Even the Partial judiciary powers in selection of Judges?! Which is against the separation of powers. " Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely " is the strongest opinion of Montesquieu. Tyrann and corruption are twin 👭. Ex. IAF

But, all Hindi picture villains talk profound things until exposed at the end! So, Trust but verify. Most judges including common man come across as opportunistically profound and opportunistically silent. An Education that seem like practised but scheming. Good looking Laws can be sequenced to discriminate. Chronology samjiye!

In a democracy the GOVERNMENT represents the will of the people. If some of the views of the people don’t agree with this judge he calls it tyranny.
By that logic if Abraham Lincoln says slaves must be set free, and a judge owns slaves & says that slavery is a good thing he can also argue that Lincoln is a tyrant. Absurd logic.
