- What is the weather like in Fuerteventura in winter?
When people are looking for somewhere to go to escape the cold and rain in northern Europe during winter one of their first questions is "What is the weather like in Fuerteventura in winter?" or perhaps "What is the winter weather in the Canary Islands like?"
Well in this video, hopefully, I will answer that question with my experience of winter in Fuerteventura for the past 9 years.
One of the key things about deciding to retire in Fuerteventura was the climate. It has to have the best climate in the world year round. Rarely too hot in summer and never actually cold in winter.
The lowest average winter temperatures are in January with an average of 18°C but of course that means that many days are above 20°C. I used to suffer from sad (seasonal affective disorder) in the UK I think in winter - although another way of putting it is - I was totally pissed off with the weather!

Thinking of coming for 10 days in February. Covid depending. Judging by your video, we are going to be ok, nice and sunny!
Obviously nothing is guaranteed Andy but the odds are the weather will be good. As I always say when I am asked this - the worst day you have when you are here will be better than the best day in the UK while you are away. Thanks for watching.
Came to caleta with my partner in December last year and the weather was beautiful. Landed back at East Midlands with my shorts on still..... Bad idea lol. Great video keep em coming :)
lol I have seen many do that and regret it. Thanks for watching.
Very encouraging to hear first hand about the winters in the Canaries. My wife and have holidayed in the Canaries twice a year for the past five, and retirement is certainly planned for here, we are just back from two weeks in Corralejo last month and are about to return to Puerto Calero in Lanzarote for our fifth visit this February, for our 15th Wedding Anniversary, this would be the earliest in the year that we have visited the Island, we have been in May and weather always been fantastic as has it been when we visited in November.....and yes those F*****G buggies I hear you...not nice on the nose or the ears.....first time commenter so just to say, thanks for the great vids always enjoyed, you keep me in touch with The Beautiful Canarian way of life .......
Cheers Mark :)
Hi Mark. Thank you very much. Well I hope your plans for retirement come to fruition. I have been to Lanzarote in February and the weather was great - unfortunately when we got back to Gatwick there had been heavy snow so it took ages to find my car in the car park as they all looked alike, particularly as it was dark. Thanks for watching and for commenting.
Hi JP, I have only just discovered you vblogs but I'm certainly enjoying them. We actually flew into Fuerteventura the day you made this video in November last year. It was the first time we had visited a Canary island in a winter month but it definitely won't be our last now. We were on holiday to celebrate my 60th birthday at the end of November and in the fortnight we were there, we had just a brief spell of rain one morning and a couple of cloudy days. Other than that it was sunny and warm the rest of the time and didn't get dark until gone 6pm, a good hour and a half later than back in the UK. Our pool guy told us it was unusually hot for late November as the temperatures were around 28° C in the shade most days, even reaching a whopping 31° C in the shade on 29th November. It did drop to a more usual 24° C in early December but it was still very sunny. What a great climate. I'm very envious of you. Keep up the blogs.
Thank you. I am glad you enjoyed it. Actually we usually came here in November as my birthday is also then and we were usually on the beach every day. As I always say "On the worst day of winter here it is better than the best day of winter in the UK". I hope you keep coming back. Thanks for watching.
Thank you for a great informative video, I’m visiting Corralejo at the end of March for a week and I’m so looking forward to it, hoping for some nice warm weather. This video was filmed on my birthday too so that’s another reason to give it a like! 👍🏼
Well happy belated birthday Claire. I hope you have a great time in March. Thanks for watching.
Me and my family stop in caleta every dec January and love the climate its certainly a great island .off out again new years day for 12 days can't wait .oh and keep videos coming jp they great to see .
That's a nice way to start the new year. Have a great time. Thanks for watching.
Thumbs up ere' John, lovely weather - far better then where I live! Great during the day but cold at night!!!! Great place to live in the sun! Many thanks for sharing your winter with us John! :)
Well I hope you have a warmer one this year Shaun. Thanks for watching and your support.
Hey JP, we’ve only ever had one day of rain and cold temperature in all the time we’ve visited the Canary Islands and even then it only lasted a few hours. The climate and the sunshine are the biggest attraction to us and it’s getting very difficult for us to justify going anywhere else as it’s a longer flight to other places with virtually guaranteed good weather. Really wish we could spend more time in the Canaries, maybe one day we will be able to 😎👍❤️
Absolutely true. I love the islands of the West Indies but the horrible overnight flight back always spoils the holiday for me. I hope you make it. Thanks for watching.
I went Casta fuste Feb 2020 , was alittle chilly in early morning and evening but lunch time afternoon 21c , was lovely considering UK Was thunderstorms , cheers for the vid Jp
That sums up a winter's day in Fuerte. Thanks for watching.
Another nice vid JP. I can see why you retired to the Canaries.
Well the good outways the bad - well mostly anyway. Thanks for watching Mark.
Thanks for this video:)
Thank you for watching
Came in may and it was gorgeous but the uk was having a heatwave at the same time I was here so temps were the same for 2 out of 7 days I was here and rained the rest back home
That sounds like my kind of luck
Thanks for all John! We had a great, great honeymoon. Most thing we did were decided on because of your videos (caves of Ajuy for example).
Shame we didn't manage to meet uo :(
I am glad you had a memorable one. Perhaps next time. Thanks for watching Mike.
I spent 10nights over christmas 2019 in corralejo who is less able that i am and did loads of stuff. I attemted surfing, went on a try dive scuba dive, dune buggying without going on any dunes, tryed the electric surf board, went jet skiing.
Can't wait for Jan and Feb to roll around and get some of that Fuertaventura winter. Most of the time winter there is better than summer here. Thanks for the video John
I will put a few extra Euros in the meter after Christmas to keep the temperature up for you. Thanks for watching and enjoy once you get here.
loved the outtakes! bloody buggies beeeep LOL
They are doing my head in! Thanks for watching Les.
As always, my pleasure, JP! :-)
In short: it's warm!
Enjoy
In short - you are right! Thanks for watching and commenting.
Interesting about the Buggies we noticed in early November that there were no where near as many past the El Cot lagoons - didn't realise they had been banned.
Yes. They get banned, then they are allowed to start again, then they're not, then that are - business as usual here really. Perhaps they are not dropping enough money in the right pockets. Thanks for watching Billy.
Ha ha! You were a bit of a grump-bag at the end there! Heh heh! When we visited Fuerteventura many years ago it was extraordinarily windy all week and it put me off it as a destination to live. I had all my hair blowing wildly around my face and having to hold onto my hat wherever I went. Perhaps we had an unusual week, did we? I'm assuming 'Fuerteventura' means 'Strong wind'? x
That was me on a good day too! It is windy at some times of the year. I always believed it means strong winds but it seems it actually means strong fortune. Thanks for watching Imo.
You should get a job with the tourism board John! I was sold until those buggies. Don't want to go now, i like the sleet and numb fingers. Haha 😵👍
I wish the local council would make up their mind and either ban them for good or let them back off road as they are getting in my nerves. Well it takes all kinds Stevie but no cold for me anymore. Mind you, the UK weather did have the last laugh as it was snowing when our belongings were being loaded into the removals van when we moved here. Thanks for watching.
You don't half like to rub it in John! (No, I'm not talking about sun screen!). :D
That's the best offer I have had all week. It's only fair Kevin as most of my friends on Facebook in the UK are always posting about racing, their new cars etc - all the things I can no longer afford so all I can do is show the weather ;-) Thanks for watching-
My partner and I are coming to Fuerteventura 27-31 December for some winter sun. what’s the weather like? Trying to work out what to pack clothes wise. You think it’ll rain ?
My crystal ball is at the menders at the moment. The odds are that it will be quite warm and sunny without any rain. But there is always the chance of some rain but even if there is it won't be the constant day after day rain as it is in the UK. As I always say to people who ask this - on the worst day you are here it will still be better than the best day back home. Have fun.
Bloody Buggys! Sounds pretty nice there but I don't think I would handle the heat of Summer very well. What does the temp reach in Summer?
Actually one of the great things here is that it is generally never very hot in the summer, unlike mainland Spain. We did have a short spell in the upper 30s this year but that can happen in the UK too. Perfect all year around - but no canals! Thanks for watching Phil.
I don't do getting in cold water either!!!
I have been a "fair weather" person all my life - never do anything if it involves getting cold and wet.
Spent 10nights in corralejo from 18th december 2019 temperatures got up to mid 30s and there were only 2 nights where it got a little chilly.
It was lovely in December, not that it has been bad since then. It has been a good "winter" with little rain. Thanks for watching Philip.
Hi JP! I loved the north of Fuerteventura. Just wondered how its like in the north of Teneriffa ? Generally I love to surf and my girlfriend is into fitness.
I wish I could help Andreas but I have only ever spent one night in the north of Tenerife when our flight to Fuerteventura was diverted. I'm sure it isn't as nice as Fuerteventura though ;-) Thanks for watching.
I'd hate your lifestyle (not) :) Another great video John
Thanks Andy. It isn't easy as you can imagine.
Really enjoy watching your video's John. We will be in Corralejo for Christmas and New Year and was wondering if you could recommend a restaurant/place to have Christmas lunch?
Thanks John. As you may be aware, Christmas Day isn't that big here so I think most places will be open in Corralejo. Are you looking for a traditional English Christmas lunch?
JP in Fuerteventura Thanks for your reply. Yeah, we were thinking a traditional Christmas lunch or preferably a nice steak pie 😊
Hi John. I asked in one of the Corralejo Facebook forums for you and got three suggestions that are doing Christmas lunch. Penny Lane (€29.95 for 4 courses), Chablis Bar and the Galleon Bar. You can find them on Facebook to book. If you need any help then let me know.
JP in Fuerteventura Hi John, what a top guy you are. Thanks a lot for doing that, we really appreciate it. Will have a look the now on Facebook. Thanks again 👍
You are welcome
Hi JP , could you help me plan a 14 days trip bethween 27 05 -c10 06 (14 days) next year ? Should i stay in one place (Caleta de Fuste) , or split the island in two (Coralejo adn maybe Moro Jable).
Hi Lucian. What sort of things do you like doing?
We want to explore the island , beautiful sights, the beaches , Oasis Park, museums, a trip to Lanzarote, Isla de Lobos...
We're not interested in clubs/pubs/nightlife.
We rent a car (Opel Astra) from Cicar for two weeks.
Well I would say, if you can, a split resort holiday may be best as that would certainly cut down on the driving and give you a better idea of what the two places are like at night (I don't mean nightlife - just eating out etc).
Jp can you recommend the best hotels in collerajo thanks
Hi Steve, Not an easy one to answer as I have never stayed in a hotel in Corralejo, or anywhere else on the island for that matter. The "best" from a quality point of view (and price) is the Gran Hotel Atlantis Bahia. The "best" from a beach location point of view would be the Hotel RIU Palace Tres Islas which is right on the dunes beach. Friends stayed in the Barcelo Corralejo Bay and said it was very nice (it is an adults only hotel). If you join the Facebook page "Corralejo We Love You" and ask on there then people who have actually stayed can give you recommendations but I would make it a more specific question as if you just say best then you will probably get 50 answers recommending almost every hotel ;-)
What is the weather like in Summer? Is it very hot? What is the average summer temperature?
No rain and with a cooling breeze generally. The average August temperature is 24.3C. We can get the odd heatwave but, unlike southern Spain, it isn't usually ridiculously hot during the day.
