A beautiful song performed with passion and heart by Michael and Claire. They have made it into a wonderful duet. Michael's narration is so reverent and touching. The choir makes the message of the song even more powerful. A great performance !
Oh, my God! The 24-year-ago Michael Ball! This footage is most precious not only because of its great performance but also because it reveals how a great singer is perfected in time.
this is the VERY first time I heard Michael sing. I play this every year at Xmas. I bought the video and treasure it because I have never seen it again in the shops in Australia
Très très belle chanson ....Ne devrait jamais s’arrêter.......Si beau...si émouvant !!! Bravo, éternelle gratitude...Je n’attendrais pas décembre prochain pour l’ecouter à nouveau !!!!!
Thank you for the upload of this. I have it on VHS from when it first aired on television, but I have to find the silly thing. This is a beautiful song and Claire and Michael are perfect. It gave me the chills it did the first time I heard it. Just perfectly beautiful. Thank you so much.
Thank-you for posting can't get enough of Michael - this was excellent. At least we in New Zealand can search the web to find him.. You are lucky in the UK in that he is SO Close. He makes it to Australia if only he would come to us.
There is a recording of this song. It is from a two-disc package put out by the Save the Children foundation. I'm on vacation and don't have physical access, but I think it's called Save the Children A Broadway Christmas Festive Songs for the Season. It's well worth hunting down for two cd's worth of performances by musical stars and casts. Also includes songs by Michael Crawford, Sarah Brightman, Colm Wilkenson, and Frances Rufelle. Hope this helps!
This is probably my favourite version of this song. Watching it, it dawned on me, particularly around the 2 minute mark, how much Michael Ball looks like David Essex around the eyes.
I dont know if theres a duet of this but michael ball does his own christmas album and i think this is on it... it might say more on his official website but you need a player that supports RAM files to listen :)
Yes, although it is "only" a dream, and although everyone knows that dreams do not come true, nevertheless somehow soon it must come -- the planetary commonwealth of humanity, free of alienation and in harmony with nature. And the child messiah who will bring it about is none other than the child within ourselves, the not-yet-corrupted human spirit.

Magnifico!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
All I can say is...this has all the emotional subtlety of the '80s.
this is my favorouite song
Best Ellen ever. Best Marius ever.
He really, really does!
@sigmund38zx5 I don't know about Claire Moore, but Michael Ball isn't classical trained. He trained as an actor - not a singer.
When a Child is Born schöner Song
Good lord !!! ~~
@rickmyers324
It is on the Save The Children Christmas cd. Amazon sometimes carries it by private sellers.

Dammit, I miss the height of British Musicals...
This song, NOT just for christmas

Wat genre music is this
grindcore
hah. Raoul and Christine)
I'll also add that the entire ending makes absolutely no sense in musical context. Nothing beats the original ^^
Thumb me down or whatever, but I actually think that Michael Ball wasn't too great in this. To me, Claire Moore was far superior.
lip sync
Lol, contender for the worst modulation ever?
