Thank you Kay. What a lot of work, but, what a handsome fella!!! I love the advent calendar suggestion. I'm definitely going to give this chap a go. As always, what an awesome tutorial. Thanks so much for sharing xxxx
Thank you I'm pleased you enjoyed the video. Yes he is definitely worth stitching and he makes for a great heirloom advent calendar for sure. Happy stitching.
Thank you for such a awesome video. The best step by step yet! I think watching this I can do it. Can’t wait to see more of your tutorials. Thank you for taking the time to make it. 👍🏻
Thank you for saying so. Nothing is hard if you know how to go about it I amreally pleased this video gives you the confidence to try it. Happy stitching.
Thank you so much for this very clear instructional video. I've just bought the pattern and as a fairly new machine embroiderer this tutorial is going to help me greatly. 💕
Wow! Can hardly wait to get my machine hi one from the shop so I can make this. Will follow your great instructions when I do begin. Thank you for sharing.
Hi Belinda, no you need to use 2 layers of wash aways stabilizer for each hooping because he has a satin stitch edge all round and you will need to remove all traces of stabilizer from the satin stitch border after you finish stitching or you will have paper fibres poking through the stitching. Happy stitching.
All these comments and not one but mine for a thumbs up!??! Really folks. Thank you this really looks amazing! Its on my wish list! what brand of tape do you use? Yours looks sticky and mine doesn't do what yours does. Mine always shifts or doesn't stick well.
My pleasure thanks for watching. I use the cheapest as usually it is the stickiest, no particular brand, just whatever I can get my hands on at the time. 😊
I get my scissors from Amazon Dot. The smaller ones are called squizzors and my larger pair are called precision pince action aquarium scissors would you believe. Most of my supplies with the exception of my fabrics are from Amazon as it is global.
Hi Pamela top centre of his hat, place it down after the first round of stitching and tape it in place on the outside of the stitch line then place your batting over the top and secure everything with the second round of stitching. I hope this helps. Happy stitching.
This might be a silly question but where do you get your bobbin thread to match top thread? I haven't been doing machine embroidery long and I made to believe bobbin thread is a different weight?
Thank you pleased you enjoyed it Carroll. I find it easier to trim around the edge as the hoop holds it taught and it is easier to get into tighter spaces without accidentally cutting the stitches. It is personal preference, you can remove it anyway that you feel comfortable, there is no right and wrong way.
Hi, Kay. This is fantastic. As always, great directions. I have a couple of questions. What is the gold fabric you used? Is it a kind of vinyl? I love the shine. I was thinking of putting some cut-away stabilizer in between the batting and the wash away to give more stiffness so the nutcracker won’t droop or curl while hanging. Do you recommend this? You are such an expert; I will bow to your knowledge!
Hi Diane, my gold fabric is in the link below. www.remnanthousefabric.co.uk/product/stretch-mirror-foil-sparkle/ Others have been using Lame www.fabricdirect.com/fabric-type/lame-fabric/ You can use a layer of cut away between the batting and wash away no problem at all or even better you could use a bag stiffener called "Vilene Decovil Heavy" instead with or without batting, depending on how your machine would handle the extra thickness of having both. If you can raise your foot to 6 mm then you could use both Decovil and batting together is would only be a question of height nothing else. I use it a lot it is great stuff and well worth a place in your supply stash. You can buy it from fabric shops and is readily available. If you use it, loosen your upper thread tension by about 3 numbers to compensate for the extra thickness and resistance or you might break a needle if you don't. I hope this helps you. Happy stitching
I usually wait until it needs a wash and do it then to be honest. It might take a few warm washes to remove all the stabilizer, so it it dries stiff or a bit wrinkly just wash it again. Once it is all out it will lay nice and flat. When gifting something to someone I always print a warning on a piece of paper about this and pin it to the back of the item just to warn them that this could happen the first time they wash it. I have heard of people gifting something and the person washes it but the item dries stiff or a bit wrinkly and the person throws it away rather than just washing it again to remove all the wash away stabilizer. I hope this helps you. Happy stitching.
Thanks very much, pleased you enjoyed it. It is stretch Mirror foil sparkle. Here is where I bought it from. www.remnanthousefabric.co.uk/product/stretch-mirror-foil-sparkle/
Kay, quick question here...When I got to the eyes, I noticed mine stitched out differently than yours. Mine were solid fill stitches for each color. It worked but, did get a bit heavy there. Are you using a different version of the design? Wondering minds, you know... LOL!
Hi Sheila they should be hollow centres, what size are you stitching? My email address is on the third page of the instructions if you email me I will resend you the head file with the hollow eye centres.
@@KaysCutz, I will do that by the weekend. I'm doing the 6 x 9 size. I wasn't certain if that was what made the difference or not. Thanks sew much for all you do!

Stabilizer is the foundation of your embroidery and is the difference between your stitch out looking good or not. If you don't use enough then your satin stitching will look rounded and uneven rather than nice and flat and even. You can save money elsewhere but don't skimp on your stabilizer. If it fails because you haven't used enough then you have wasted not only your stabilizer but anything else that you put on top of it. Not all stabilizers are equal either. Always use what the design instructions tell you to use for the best results. I hope this helps. Happy stitching 😊

Just use your usual thread in bobbin it’s fine.
As Anne said just wind it from your top thread. You dont have to use special bobbin weight. Happy stitching and thanks for watching.
