To me it feels like Seasmoke has been acting restless for this whole season is because he has been homing in on someone he or his magic or whatever has been leading him to. And the time was right or he finally took enough notice as he looked over at Addam as he flew by. That it clicked and Seasmoke u-turned......happily. Like a puppy. Did everyone catch the bold hypocrisy of Aemond when he told Larys he wasn't going to be Hand because Otto's devotion to his family has never been called into question? Implying he knew Larys killed his brother and father.. knowing he burned his own brother out of the sky..

Aemond has a lot of awareness in himself and others and confidence in his abilities and what he brings to the table with Vhagar. Rightly so, he's risen very high martially and academically. But he does have a blind spot. He overcame a lot of people underestimations and to be frank quite a bit of bullying. However his blindspot is that having accomplished all that growth he feels untouchable. And ignores the possibilty that others can also seemingly overcome underdog status and perhaps dangerously challenge him. Particularly when given the motivation of being bullied as he was. Larys may be a "toad" but blatantly humiliating him like that and in front of others was a huge mistake. And I loved the scene between Aegon and Larys. Never thought I'd feel such empathy for Larys Strong of all people in this show.

I actually think Larys doesn't want to be Hand. The Hand is a very public and scrutinized position, which doesn't fit Larys's MO at all, and we now know he hates being stared at by the public to the point of phobia. He wants to provoke shifts in the council because that sows confusion and discontent, as well as helping to establish him and his spies as the most stable forces in the Red Keep. Throwing someone new into the role of Hand would keep that chaos ball rolling, but becoming Hand himself would just put him in its path.
When Aegon made him Master of Whisperers Larys accepted it with a simple, "Your Grace honours me." When he thinks Aemond is making him Hand he shifts uncomfortably, averts his gaze, clears his throat and says it's "an honour I'd never considered for myself", at which point Aemond cuts him off. Everyone's assumption, including the other characters', is that Larys was just playing coy. However, Larys's body language and careful phrasing makes me think he was _declining_ the perceived offer and trying to phrase it gently to not offend Aemond.
Of course, Aemond doesn't really care what Larys thinks and interrupts him to assert dominance, which is a recurring theme with Aemond and his council. Aemond is always quick to become the bully when he gets power, probably feeling it's 'getting his own back' for his childhood mistreatment, but he's bullying the very people he most needs to rely on, even his closest allies like Cole and Alicent. Aemond views himself as a self-made man who never received or needed the support of others to excel, and this philosophy is making him drive everyone away. That shot of his near-empty council table says a lot. Similarly, it's notable that Madame Sylvi helped spread Rhaenyra's rumours against Aemond; he demeaned her to Aegon's friends to cover his own wounded pride, and now she's actively working against him despite having been one of his closest bonds before. Anyone he thinks makes him look weak must be cast aside, no matter how valuable an asset they might have been, and he's accumulating a lot of ex-supporters by it.
Attacking Larys is possibly the worst move Aemond has made yet. Not only did he not let Larys speak, he insulted him based on what Aemond _thought_ he was saying after having deliberately set him up to think the offer was being made. He also called him a toad, which based on Larys's death glare he interpreted (possibly correctly) as a dig at his disability. Larys already didn't like Aemond - he's rash, arrogant and disdainful of diplomacy in favour of violence and power trips - and that little interaction has put him firmly on Larys's hate list.
In contrast, Aegon is far more biddable and has always treated Larys well. Now that they share being visibly mangled and all the struggles that go with it, Larys may go all in on supporting Aegon just to spite those who looked down on them. I suspect Aemond may find out too late he's not as untouchable as he believed. In the grand scheme of things rats are more deadly than dragons, and Larys has _all_ the rats.

@@mgatwood42 This is an incredibly well thought out chartacter thesis. Both of Aemond and Larys. Truly spectacular! It didn't occur to me that he was trying to politely decline. Having read your thoughts I'd give it a 75-25% chance that you're right but I'll still leave the possibilty for a little doubt. But still you sold me pretty well on that you may more than likely be right.
As to your Aegon/Larys relationship. Aegon is more biddle yes, he'd like that no doubt about it. But his having always treated well I think plays a big part of it. A relationship now made all the more strong because of their now shared disabled or "broken" status. He was manipulating Aegon with the story of his past and experiences, sure. But I feel it came from a good place, a place of truth and genuine empathy. It reminded me of Tyrion and Jon in Season 1.
I think that in spite of Aegon's horrible actions in the past to those lesser than him on the totempole in Season 1. Something that I feel the showrunners did to help prop Rhaenyra up a little too much. I think that for all his faults he is not without as many virtues one of them being that he has something of a common touch.
Thank you for taking the time to reply to me so thoughtfully.

@@Healingharp88 Larys has always had an affinity for the outsiders - that was how he originally bonded with Alicent, by pointing out how she was flourishing in a foreign hostile habitat. I suspect he's keenly attuned to other people's insecurities and knows how to leverage his own struggles into a connection so he can make use of them. Turning his disability to its best advantage. His scene with Aegon did have echoes of Jon and Tyrion, and he's basically giving Aegon the same advice: "Never forget what you are. The rest of the world will not. Wear it like armour and it can never be used to hurt you." If it was purely manipulation I doubt Larys would have shown such vulnerability, especially to the point he starts crying and stumbling over his words (during which he's looking at Aegon's ruined leg). Aegon is a useful ally, certainly, but Larys does seem to truly feel empathy for him in that moment.
Aegon does have at least some good qualities - we've seen him sympathize with the poor folk and want to help them, he treats Larys with genuine respect, he has a strong relationship with his friends, and he seems far more comfortable socializing with commoners than at court. He could probably be a much better person if anyone would give him actual guidance on how. We've seen Alicent and Otto punish him several times, but the problem is he gets the same treatment for _all_ misbehaviour. Assaulting a servant girl receives the same punishment as saying he's fine with Rhaenyra being the heir. When he asks how he can be better he's treated like a lost cause who's stupid for even asking. "Just do what is required of you: nothing." He's always been viewed as a pawn to be used by everyone around him, so it's not surprising he thinks that's just how you treat people in your power. After all, why would a servant's wishes matter to a prince when his own mean nothing?
So far as his awful behaviour in Season One, a lot of it is pretty similar to how he was in the book. He was known for being extremely promiscuous, impregnating servants, groping every serving girl in reach and generally being a perv (let's just say Aegon doesn't stop at watching feet...). Still, while it seems shocking it's likely not far from the norm for young princes in King's Landing. We know Viserys and Daemon spent much of their youth drunk in brothels, and their father Baelon left a couple of bastard children himself (Ulf and Hugh, and that's just who we know of). They may well have frequented child fighting pits and probably molested servants themselves - we're simply never told of it. As Gwayne said, King's Landing isn't a salubrious place for growing good young men. It doesn't absolve Aegon in any way, but it does put his behaviour into context for why he would view his actions as normal and acceptable.
Overall, I think Aegon is a tragic character shaped by his family's mistreatment of him, much like Aemond. Aegon threw himself into pleasure and fun to cope, while Aemond threw himself into warfare and studying. One gave up on ever being better while the other became obsessed with being the best, and both ended up twisted by it.
And you're very welcome! I always enjoy theorizing and analyzing characters like Larys, Aemond and so forth, as well as reading other people's ideas on them. ^^

Re Littlefinger, in the books you do get a better insight into how he got to be the way he was. It was sort of mentioned in the show, but they skimmed right past it without lingering. He's from a tiny, poor family on The Fingers (hence his nickname). He was fostered at Riverrun, where he got into a love triangle with Caitlin and Lysa Tully. He wanted Caitlin but Lysa wanted him. When Caitlin was betrothed to Brandon Stark, Littlefinger unwisely challenged him to a duel, which he lost and nearly got killed. Brandon laughed at him and Lord Hoster Tully threw him out, but not before he'd the consolation prize of a secret night with Lysa. This is why Littlefinger resents the nobility and wants to bring them down, but he's learned his lesson: he can't fight them directly, so he fights them by cunning and guile: befriending them, setting them against each other, and betraying them. It's basically a lifelong revenge trip.
Lysa got pregnant, and her father Lord Hoster forced her to take Moon Tea to abort it and keep the pregnancy secret. However, the tea was badly prepared: she bled heavily, nearly died, and this is probably why she had so many miscarriages with John Arryn. When, many years later, Hoster is dying, Caitlin attends him, and in his delirium he keeps saying, "tansy, tansy..." and "forgive me". Caitlin assumes this the name of a girl he'd somehow wronged, but try as she might, she can't find any connection between him and a "Tansy". However, the _flower_ tansy is a component of Moon Tea, so it's likely that this was Hoster's guilt about Lysa coming out as he lost control of his mind at the end of his life. This is a real thing BTW: tansy is a traditional abortifacient.

In the book there's ambiguity about who their father is, some sources of the narrator says that they are Laenor's sons (remember that the shows always ages the characters in comparison to the books), but since his homosexuality was a known fact it was considered unlikely, and other sources says that Corlys himself was the father, which is the direction the show took.
EDIT: as for wild dragons, the one that ventures into the Vale is most likely the one called Sheepstealer, the name kinda shows his preferences for food... If they are going to follow the book there are other 2 wild dragons available, but I won't say more than that.

My theory is Steffon Darklyn functioned like an accidental blood sacrifice, so blood magic primed Seasmoke to take the next rider, and how little or not of Targ blood he has doesn't matter too much. Targs forgot how they used blood magic to bond the dragons in the past, but we see blood magic accidentally done with Daenarys (sacrifice of baby, Drogo and the witch to hatch the 3 dragons), so blood magic being accidentally done here is persuasive to me.

How dare a member of your council point out something, it obvious she is anger her ideas are failing. It’s true the Greens are having a hard time feeding the small folk because Rhaenyras is starving them and she didn’t think to feed them, she is more concerned with her throne. Mysaria thought of them and I believe it is the job of your advisors to give you the pros and cons and different ideas but the fact that she is the one that’s letting her own people starve is weird that they never came across her mind to help. I get the strategy that the greens will suffer the blame if the people starve but I don’t remember a time where she’s against it “we can’t let the people starve” and maybe her council is like we have to to sew discourse.

I don't think Seasmoke tricked the knight. I think he could have ridden Seasmoke. I think he made the mistake of changing his behavior in the end. The belief that he had made it triggered Seasmoke. A sudden emotional swing that the dragon perceived as negative. Seasmoke was eager to find a new rider. He was restless the whole time. And because the knight was wrong, Seasmoke had had enough and said to myself, I'll just look for one myself.
If the man with his sick child is a dragon rider too, then Rhaenyra will have a big problem if he fights at her side. Because as it turns out here, he knocks down another of his kind to get what he wants, for his own benefit. Typical traitor material. If such a person fights at Rhaenyra's side and gets a better offer at some point, he will betray her. I don't think anything in this show happens to be shown the way it's shown. We should see that this man lets others jump over the blade to get what he wants.
It doesn't matter if Aegon becomes capable of govern again, he can't do anything against Aemond, because he needs him on his dragon. To protect the city and win the war.
