Hey everyone, here's the latest Honest Government Ad - which as always, was made possible thanks to our Patrons. And that's a good thing because it's extremely concerning when Governments allow the country's scientific agencies to be infiltrated and parasitised by companies which have a massive interest in playing down the harmful effects of gas mining and fracking - on the environment, our health, and of course the climate crisis. The scariest thing is that many CSIRO scientists say they're unable to communicate their research fndings to the public; or to speak out about this bullshit for fear of losing their funding, or even their jobs. I thought all the heroes were only in cartoons. Since seeing this video I have a real life hero/heroes. Thank you for speaking out about the corruption here in Australia and within government (the people who are supposed to be looking after the people). You should do one on corporate tax. The tax/financial details of companies operating in Australia with incomes over $200 million is published on the ATO's website. There are several consecutive years of data published in Excel format. They show that while corporate tax is declared to be 35 cents in the dollar, the Australian government has put so many holes in the system that an average of only approximately 3 cents in the dollar is collected, from these companies, and that over 30% do not pay any tax at all. While a corporation has a legal obligation to minimise tax and use any and all loopholes in the system, due to its legal obligation to put the shareholders interests first, the government does not have a legal obligation to put loopholes in the system and should be legally held accountable for these loopholes existing in the system and that they allow them to stay in the system as evidenced by the financial data published under legislation to produce an annual report of information about certain corporate tax entities. You do the math. If you apply a flat rate of 15% tax to these companies alone, there is an increase in tax revenue of over $230 billion dollars per annum. That would be a over 50% in reduction of the official tax rate. It would also be closer to the UN's global corporate tax rate policy. The only problem is getting the government to be honest and collect what they say they are going to collect. As long as it appears to be legal to say that the corporate tax rate is one thing, but collect something radically different, I can't see how this will ever change. You should have to say that the corporate tax rate is what you collect and not some figure used to tick, lie, cheat, steel from, brainwash or confuse the general public.
According to Transparency International's findings over the years, Australia has slipped several places down the Corruption Perceptions Index league table over the past 8-9 years. With sports rorts and car park porkbarrelling, why am I not at all surprised at that outcome?

It is well established for years now that satire artists (stand-up comedians, tv-shows like comaedy central and now indie producers like you, mates) do so much more and better in investigation, criticism and reporting than the usual "institutional" organs (from journalists and big media to government bodies and justice system). It is an uneven battle, but it is the good battle to fight. And I am grateful, inspired and even hopeful that you guys and gals are here. Michael from Greece.
You seriously cannot believe this without seeing the irony in your own statements. Satire artists are blatant propagandists that package their message in an entertainment format without allowing for any room for serious rebuttal or discussion; even worse they often portray any opposing take as laughably ignorant or off-base regardless of its validity. The Daily Show, Colbert Report, Conan, etc are all shimmering examples of leftist propaganda wrapped up in a façade of comedic banter. If you want true objective news then cut out the "journalist" and do the research/thinking for yourself.
If you were paying attention, you would realize and respect the amount of time, research AND responsibility (ethical & legal ones) these mere seconds of EPONYMOUS info/accusations you were presented with, during these pleasant/satire productions. Here in Greece our Union of Journalists (not that it follows it nowadays, but OK) motto, is Jeremy Bentham's quote: "Publication is the soul of Justice". If you want to talk about propaganda (sic) please look to your government, military, police and other official reports, especially when they are "reporting" on war, state violence, torture, whistle blower, refugee and environmental real crime accusations. In other words: Follow the money, follow the power and stop making uncased & anonymous accusations. The latter is elementary.
That's exactly why outside of NPR, I watch John Oliver or go to non-US journalists to read about US news. I wish we could bring back some broadcast legislation but politicians benefit too much from things being slanted.

@@Rafonix61 Increasing WHICH Taxes?
