  • ALL 4G63 DSM MPI WIRING DETAILS IN DESCRIPTION BELOW:
In this video I show you how to wire a 1G DSM 4G63 MPI relay. A 1G DSM includes the 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994 Mitsubishi Eclipse, Eagle Talon, and Plymouth Laser. When doing a 4G63 turbo engine swap into another car, this MPI relay is usually the most confusing part of the wiring harness. I do my best to show you what the MPI relay does, and how to properly wire it.

    4G63 MPI Wires:
    - Pin 1 - Empty.
    - Pin 2 - Black w/ green stripe - Goes to the fuel pump from the MPI relay. Many people rewire their fuel pump with 8 gauge wire to make sure it has a strong battery-fed power feed. If doing this, you can use this factory black w/ green stripe on pin 86 of a Bosch relay. Learn how to properly hard wire your fuel pump in this video: • How to Wire a 5 Pin Au...
    - Pin 3 - Black w/ white stripe - Should be given Ignition power. This wire on the MPI relay also goes to pin 110 at the ECU, the Ignition Coil and Power Transistor.
    - Pin 4 - Red wire - Goes to Pin 107 and 102 on the ECU. It also jumps over to Pin 5 on the MPI relay, and sends power to the Mass Airflow Sensor, CAS, Wastegate Solenoid, ISC, O2 Sensor, Injector Resistor, Purge Control Solenoid, Fuel Pressure Solenoid, and EGR Solenoid.
    - Pin 5 - Connects to Pin 4 on the MPI relay
    - Pin 6 - Black wire - Goes to ground.
    - Pin 7 - White w/ red stripe - goes to pin 56 at the ECU
    - Pin 8 - Black w/ blue stripe - Goes to Pin 63 and 66 at the ECU.
    - Pin 9 - Black w/ yellow stripe - This Goes to Pin 108 at the ECU AND the small wire on the engine's starter relay. This should ONLY be given power when the engine is cranking from the starter. The moment you let go of the key (when the engine starts up), this wire should go dead.
    - Pin 10 - Black w/ red stripe - This should go to a 20A fuse fed right off the battery.

Figured I'd Share some helpful tips: at 1:14 I will confirm that these 3 wires go to a fuse box on the + battery terminal on a 1g dsm, the black with red wire, mentioned in the video, needs a 20 amp fuse before being attached to the battery +, so if your project has a preexisting fuse box you can use that slot and add a 20 amp fuse.
at 1:32 the black with yellow stripe wires become 1 spade connector that activates the starter solenoid, on an auto car the black yellow wire also goes to the neutral safety switch, so the car only starts in park or Neutral. at 1:45 the black with green stripe is for the fuel pump it is activated by the ECU pin 13, but I will add here that you do not have to cut the green black wire on the mpi relay connector to send battery + to your vehicle fuel pump, you can go to connector seen at 2:25 and you will notice the black green striped wire.
at 2:30 the black white wire needs to see a switched + meaning hot only when your ignition key is in the on position,
at 3:22 the wire you are referring to is the ECU Backup power, which is pin 103 red with black stripe on the ECU, this needs to be a constant + 12 volt 10 amp fused wire, and you don't have to cut into the ECU wire connector, just use your digital ohm meter on pin 103 and find the red with black stripe wire, it is located on the larger white connector that is next to your mpi relay, pin is in connectors top row second to last wire.

Hello. How you doing .. I wanna ask about something happened to my 1991 galant i lost the connection to the transmissions I cant see the light on the cluster like before an its only on 3rd speed all that happened after I changed the alternator bc I drove on the car with out alternator ...

it's likely a fried transmission control module aka TCU the capacitors on them like to leak and destroy the circuit board, much like the dsm ECU's, a friend of mine had the same issue your talking about on a 91 base model Galant, the transmission was in limp mode only 3rd gear in drive overdrive did nothing, I probed the 2 TCU test wires that are in the obd 1 connector with an analog ohm meter , and I got no pulses so I had a clue that the TCU was possibly dead, or the signal was not reaching the on board diagnostic port for some reason, I pulled the 2 trim pieces off that area on the floor that incase the stereo, and carefully removed the TCU unit it is bolted to the floor way below the stereo, it was a pain to remove it, but after getting it out of the deep area, I popped the cover off, 4 screws on the TCU case, and sure enough there was a capacitor shell casing rolling around inside the TCU, and acid goo traced on the board in some areas, where the capacitor was supposed to be on the board now had a hole in it, so fixing it was out of the question, but I located another one, in good shape and put new capacitors in it, just as preventive maintenance, and it never had another issue and all gears including overdrive worked on it but make sure to match the part number on your old TCU if it ends up being your problem.

What would cause this to rapid click? My car runs great and will rev then clicking starts and it stalls since it goes to fuel pump. But it randomly starts and stops clicking. Once it stops. Rev to the moon

I have heard had a dying ecu can cause that. But also Check the ground that is located right next to this mpi relay, along with the main power wires on the battery. If any of those are loose or dirty, it could cause the relay to freak out.
