First, you don't need to remove the roof liner, in order to access the motors and gears.There's enough space for the fingers and screws over the central console, and all you have to do is to pull it down and be patient. Second, tightening the gear in best case is just temporary solution. It creates more friction on the gear and motor, and that may result in total malfunction. Often the lid is also damaged, due to the pressure which is generated from the damaged gear, trying to "escape" the box. Don't forget, that when the gear is damaged, the surface which it has scratched with must be damaged too. I'm talking about the steel cables. You can easily change the lids and gears, but changing the cables is a totally different story.
All i have done was to change the gear and the lid from the sunroof with the curtain ones, which has no tension like these on the sunroof and respectively are far more preserved in contrast to the others. Lubricating the cords and rails is needed for a smooth and lasting operation either.
Thanks crazymandance and weichen I have a 3D printer and went straight for that as a solution. However, my printer was not connected to the internet so started reading the comments. Swapping the gears takes a few extra minutes but is the best engineering solution. Agree there may be room to do it with the roof liner in place but it is fiddley an I am sure I would have dropped a screw in the liner and then had to remove it later. Also as a safety point, the side impact protection system is in the A pillar cover so take care. I removed the battery terminal in the hope that the SIS will be dissabled (not sure it is so treated as live).
Can gear have any longitudinal movement with the lid closed? Because sunroof motor gear moves maybe 4-5mm and curtain motor gear moves 2-3mm? I think no movement is allowed
Nice video. My roof is not working for many years as dealer quoted $$$ but after watching this video I am thinking of fixing it myself. I have just one question, how do you remove those connectors from OCP. I just can't pull them out. Does it need any special tool to remove them.

My sunroof stops just before the plastic part that moves down. And I can only close it if I manually push that wide plastic part down with something. Any idea how to fix it? Thanks

@@dinnoo89 it shows you how to close it manually in the car manual. You remove dome light, you should have a crank tool that looks like a s shaped allen wrench or use a 25 torx screwdriver. Left side is to open/ close sun roof and right side is to open/ close shade.
Hello my c300 2010 sunroof is stuck tilted up wards in vent position. I tried manually it just kept twisting . I clicked the button and it spins the bolt . So I did it for no reason. What do you have in mind

Nico, may be the simplest way for this is to use the metal ring from a keychain, that should work as this spacer. Hope this will help you. Best.

You can close it by hand. Just need to remove mirror ang then with torx press hard on screw and then rotate
