    So awesome. Currently majoring in accounting but computer science seems so cool. Wish my brain was smart enough to handle all the math and engineering classes.
    Please be honest if there are anything you hate about working in the software industry.

      Although understanding the different functionalities associated with software engineering, it really doesn't require a complex understanding of math, You just need a computer science degree. Its also very antonymous from physical engineering. That being said, it's still very intellectually demanding

    Dont stop. Im a Mechanical Engineering major, im almost about to transfer to university from my community college. I take c++ next semester. Just stay motivated and make sure school is always the focal point of your life. Dont let no job, girls or friends distract you, dont take time off of low units per semester. Just go head strong.

    Here in the States, anybody can pursue software engineering. At my particular college, the only requirement to start the Computer Science major is to have credit for Pre-calculus I or proficiency on a placement exam that tests mostly math and a little logic.

    I believe it depends on what job you have. Some jobs can be nice some jobs can be routines after routines and those are the ones you would want to avoid, that is if you want to get better with your skills.

  • @e521soediv

    No. I'm very familiar with the medical field. When you get your associates degree, you can already out of the gate make $50/hr depending on where your location. All you need is a two years, and you can make good money. And while you make good money, you can go to school to further your education at the bachelors level. So no, definitely not time wasted.

    • @davidsalinas9
      @davidsalinas9 7 лет назад +2

      e521soediv what associate's degree allows that? I honestly am motivated by money, and I'd say I have a proficient learning ability, but the thing is I'm lazy as hell, and if it's possible to get a $50 per hour job with an associate's then I'm highly interested, you said you're majoring in mechanical engineering. is the job in the medical field related to the technological area?

    Well I used to think that Google was unique in its work environment but after a couple of years I realized that 90% of software companies are like them with their work environments. Literally nothing stood out about this company that separates it from all the rest. Not saying it is a bad thing, but they should have focused on maybe some more unique things about what they do.

    I have a BS and a MS in Computer Science and if I can go back in time I would never entered the IT workforce as a developer. Developers are expected to do everything - write code in Java,Spring,Hibernate, SQL, JavaScript/AngularJS know all the major application servers, do things that would take 15 days in 5-10 days meanwhile you report to some dumb ass with a degree in History or psychology or pathology who couldn't find a job in their field and then entered IT as a helpdesk person, did some QA or requirements and now is your PM. These morons cannot even assign work and just manage hours. Think about it you the talented guy who creates it all reporting to some history,psychology or education major who never did one line of coding in her life. There are too many cool women also entering the workforce who won't want to work hard so they do requirements, or UX and then within few years become some PM. We have people who used to be secretaries or bar tenders who are IT managers. Most developers are spineless dorks that cannot voice their opinion and just keep on working like dogs making these secretaries take all the credit.

    • @paulkersey2424
      @paulkersey2424 9 лет назад

      11m0 pseudo union. SE's need to act bold and question these POS. Don't just act like dorks and let them command you. Tell them you are a knowledge worker and if you don't respect even a single one of us no one will do it 'correctly'. But then there comes the Indian contractors : )

      +KWorker Hey! It's a good idea to get an econ degree? I'm studying economics, and I'm not sure how is the job market... I'm bilingual and have some CS credits. Thanks!

      ***** So you must be one of those non-technical Managers who look like idiots during meetings or discussions. Siting there clueless like a little kid. I don't want to be a parasite, I like to contribute. Btw I don't think you make more than I do. I have been averaging more than $150K/yr for past 6 years and I am in my 30s. I know I make more than most Managers and I have been a Manager too but money wasn't much. Efficient?? If the technical skilled guys with brains don't do their work, what hours would you stare on your computer all day. There are real IT managers who are in software companies, they used to be technical, I was once that. You are those managers who should be more appropriately termed Secretaries. That's exactly what you do. Secretary work. Google, Microsoft, Amazon were technical people. You probably work for a non-IT company like Insurance, Finance where you got in IT, didn't know what to do, knew someone and they kept you somewhere where you even a English major can survive. MBA is a joke these days, everyone has it pay $30K and get an online MBA.

    •  9 лет назад

      Can anyone tell me if I should get an econ degree?

      Back in the early 90s when I started with Unix it was all you got to configure the system. And since my cc was on that system as well I sorta grew into it and now I feel comfortable in it.
      Even though I now code most of my time in an IDE on Windows, I still have it engrained in me.
      Recently we had to do something on a unix machine with VI and my colleague was struckling and I was Like: 1G (go to home), YY(copy that line) P paste it. He was like: "You do it! We'll be done faster with this nonsense"
      I taught AIX courses and one of the perquisites was for people to know vi. Most didn't so I spend a lot of time explaining the basics. I hated that :) so I often skimmed over the CLI based configuration later on and went straight to SAM tool for those people :) they were relieved, I was relieved and the other students who knew their way around were relieved not to linger teaching how to use a bloody editor =)

    • @avatar098
      @avatar098 8 лет назад

      Yep! As Ghostly has said, Macs are great at coding and it's almost identical to a UNIX environment (don't even get me start on UNIX vs Linux vs MacOSX). It's all about choosing your weapon or adapting to the programming environment your project is in. I would NOT use a Mac if I wanted to create a windows application. But if I cared about cross platform compatibility, like if I was using Java or Python, or if my server was set up in a Linux environment, Macs would work just as well :)
