THANK YOU for 3:45-6:00! Now I can stop wasting time on trains that I don't want to run. You have helped a serious RUN8 noob! You are literally the only person that has brought this up in their tutorial.
You can get the external dispatcher from the Run8 Depot Server Community www.thedepotserver.com/ Click 'downloads' and it's under 'External Dispatcher'. Works fine for SP. I pretty much only play SP as well.
Is the SoCal Populated session still available for download? If so, can somebody direct me to a link? I looked on the depot website, I cant seem to find it there. Perhaps it's still out there somewhere?
@@kalnaren so I figured it out using external consist editor. Saved each class track as its own train. (Class1, class2 ect. ). Then go to ECE and merge the tracks I need, save it as …. Then F1 load train - select copy to TMU. And you can place it. You can do the whole yard and place them back to R yard
No idea, and unlikely. They discounted v1 for about a month before v2 came out, but no discount for people who already owned it. V3 is in active development but I wouldn't expect to see it in 2019.
Iv'e been looking at making my own offline network focused mostly on Barstow and BNSF but I'm struggling to figure out a clean way to generate traffic that makes sense. How do you manage your offline system's inputs from off map?
@@kalnaren Ah I see. I just found that the prospect of it being totally random means you can end up with some pretty imbalanced results. Having done some reading it seems that's a major issue with Run8V2, that its hard to forward cars without some major effort or external program telling you what to spawn and the game won't spawn it on a schedule or in a reasonable quantity.
@@BollocksUtwat Yea, it's a little random. The best you can do is mess with the tags in the manifest freights so it only spawns industry cars you actually intend to switch, but then you'll likely have the opposite problem (too many cars for some industries). If I find I don't have enough inbound manifests I just open the AI spawning window and hit "spawn now" for a train at Needles. if you're doing a half-dozen local trains or so I find you only need two or three manifests to make enough cars for the trains. One thing on a long list of feature requests is the ability to mess with the composition of spawned trains.
@@kalnaren Yea and having poked around digital solutions for car forwarding I've come across a few interesting ways people do stuff for model railroads but they have a few limitations that don't necessarily work great for Run8. One is almost perfect except it has a lot of manual input of individual car numbers and that's not an issue on a closed system like most model railroads but in a digital simulation where trains are leaving and coming into the system and spawning new cars its onerous to track them. It wouldn't even be too bad if you could manually rename the cars in Run8 where you're just editing that like you edit a tag but ultimately not possible. Of course a system that worked like that that only tracked order manifests with no concern for individual car identities would be more workable but that's not how the model railroaders work mostly so that's not how they wrote it. Seems like Run8 has just enough AI traffic ability to make it possible to fudge your way through things but enough limitations to deny you the ability to elegantly control it exactly as you want, at least not without spending as much or more time organizing the cars and tracking them as yous pend actually shunting and delivering them. If I could rename the cars themselves it might be feasible cause I could just 'track' all the cars leaving the system and have new cars spawn just inhabit that slot through a c/p in the tagger window but alas its not possible.
@@kalnaren So I did discover you can technically renumber cars but you need to do it by finding the car in the save file XML and then overwriting the existing number. The downside is you can't lose the company tag. Still some labour involved but opens up a few possibilities. Probably completely useless for multiplayer persistent servers. I can only imagine now someone writing a program to handle this task and then in V3 they completely change how it works and its useless again. :P
Assuming you've got the license key entered correctly (with the green circle beside it), maybe a corrupt install? It can happen from time to time. You might try a complete purge and re-install (backup your industry and hump config files if you've made any changes!)
It’s been brought to my attention that it may be because I just have the base game and the ai spawner is trying to spawn content I don’t own. If that is the case is there any options I can change to prevent that from happen?
@@jmabrao I doubt that's the reason. It doesn't happen with manifests and won't happen with unit trains, since they're not tagged for industry. Mid-train would be DPUs, but they're tagged "None" (and there should only be a couple of them), and the game won't spawn a locomotive as a DPU that you don't own. Any cars spawned that you don't own will still be tagged properly, they'll just look like the standard gray Run8 boxcar. I'd still try a complete reinstall.
Herin Merino from my experience you should try to find a good regular multiplayer server to play on, if you are interested you can join the “California Michigan and Florida Railroad” discoed server. We are a discord server dedicated to being a more casual form of online run 8 gameplay

Glad it was helpful!
Totally agree! You are the only person to explain these details! Thanks soooo much!!!
SAME ! great overview & tutorial, one of the best on the 'tube. Very good explanation of how it all works. Thanks !
Thanks for the video, it helped me a lot, I jumped in with V3 and still have to learn a lot!
Glad you found it helpful. It's a great game.
It would be nice to have access to the spreadsheet(s). I kow we'll need to adjust them, but seeing how you organize things would be good.
Excellent Thanks
Hey thanks for the video. I'm running my yard kind of similar. Care to share those spreadsheets?
Thanks for video. Were can i get the external dispatcher and will it work on SP mode only. I am not really into MP
You can get the external dispatcher from the Run8 Depot Server Community www.thedepotserver.com/
Click 'downloads' and it's under 'External Dispatcher'.

IIRC it was a link in one of the forum threads. I don't go on the depot forums anymore so I'm not sure where exactly its at.
So when I am in free cam for a while it anchors me to the ground and i cant get back into my cab how do i fix it
Did you enter your license key on the license tab of the F1 menu?
So way late but can you still do this with v3 I can’t find the way to move them to saved units when you are combining two trains at the end
No, annoyingly that specific functionality was removed from v3.

when is run8 V3 coming out? if I pick up V2 now will I get a discount to upgrade? Sorry for the off filter Question

how come after like five minuets when im doing free roam in the air, it automaticly puts me on the ground and i can go back in the air.
Make sure you enter your license key on the license tab in the F1 menu.
Hey I subscribed
How did you get run 8 v2?
From Run8Studios. V2 is no longer available though.

I'm not sure I understand the question? I use the settings in the AI Train Spawning window to spawn AI traffic.

When i try to use the toggle industry tags shortcut, nothing pops up. Anyway to fix this or is it just another keybind?
Which shortcut are you using?
The right shift + F8
And this is for getting the purple tags on industry tracks
I mean right ctrl + F8
@@thetalkativetank7032 All I can suggest is to check your keybindings and make sure you're actually looking at configured industry tracks.
Can you think of any reason why when I try this my trains spawn with a giant line of cars that are tagged “help” in the middle of the consist?
