      I’m 69, so when I was a kid, Los Angeles was the largest city by area. Later, Indianapolis annexed most of Marion County IN, and Oklahoma City annexed most of Oklahoma County OK to pass LA in area. To which Jacksonville said “hold my beer”.
      Of course, Greater Miami and Greater Tampa-St. Pete have more population than Greater Jacksonville. Jacksonville doesn’t have much suburban population now that they’ve annexed Duval County.

    Question 13: wrangle-St. Elias is in Alaska which is not considered part of the continental or lower 48 States. So a bad question even though it is on the continent. Technically the Caribbean islands are part of the NorthAmerican Continent

    • @NebraskaGonvilleJones
      @NebraskaGonvilleJones Год назад

      I’m sorry but you are mistaken. The “continental” United States does indeed include Alaska but not Hawaii. I believe you are trying to say the “Contiguous” United States which only includes the “lower 48”. You also make a claim about continental boundaries, this is not totally accurate either. Many Americans claim only one continent - that of America which constitutes the entire land mass inclusive of the Caribbean islands. The UN does recognise a North and South American model however this is heavily geopolitically based and not strictly geographically determined. The island of Greenland under this model should be included in the Americas based on this interpretation something that few USA citizens would recognise as such.
      In the end the question of American subdivisions are at least murky. Small claims can be made about slightly differing European delineation, in America’s case it’s about half its population and a USA education system that has a clear agenda (as it probably should on the subject) to favour its model. Either way I think Vespucci would be proud!

    3:46 - you should really check your facts - the Lousiana pruchase of 1803 did not "buy Louisiana' the purchase extended the state of Louisiana a little but mainly purchased a huge parcel of land running through the middle of th US and into present day Canada. The purchase included all of present day Arkansas, Missouri, Iowa, Oklahoma, Kansas, and Nebraska; most of North and South Dakota, and parts of present day Montanna, Wyoming, Colorado and Minnesota, as well as small parts of what are now Alberta and Saskatchewan.

    Of the 13 original States, referring to Q. 27 I would expect that Virginia was the last alphabetically and not Rhode Island as given in the answer.

    As a non-American l wld have liked multiple choice, yet scored 24/40 which is a passing mark?!?. I also had Virginia as incorrect and know that Vermont was a secession from New York and Louisiana was an area larger than just current state. Was it not at the time larger than the area of incoporated states of that time?

    OK, So, Wrangel-St.Elias is NOT in the continental US, it is in Alaska.
    The Louisiana purchase was MANY states, not just Louisiana. It doubled the size of the US at the time.
    Virginia is the last alphabetically of the 13 original colonies, unless you are going by full state names of "State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations", since 2020 shortened to just "State of Rhode Island" and "Commonwealth of Virginia".
    Jacksonville has an area of 874 sq mi.... Juneau, AK has an area of 3254 sq mi... NOT EVEN CLOSE. It's Juneau

    #27 - Gulf Coast Modern has pointed out that "Virginia" comes after "Rhode Island" alphabetically, but since the question asks about "origianl" states, that criterion might not apply to Virginia - now if they were referring to "original" states, then yes.
    honestly, do a little proof-reading before you post the video. there might not be apps to check fact-check all of your answers, but my flip phone has spell check.
