This is one of the few areas where I take things for granted. I just assume that everyone knows this stuff. Although the comments suggest that many people do. I don't quiz or test well, but since 3rd grade, about 42 years ago, the state's location and shape as well as their capitals have come very easy to me. I've learned and forgotten a lot of things, but this has stuck with me for some reason.
50/50! No American should get any less. A harder test would be to show just the state by itself. I been to all 50 states, and, I study the US map frequently, because I like it. Looking for new places to see. I made it a point to educate my children on the location of ea. state and it's capitol cities This is a foreign speaker at the beginning.

Zooming on the State that's highlighted was such a poor idea... There are only 2 ways to recognize a State: its shape and its location (on the map in general and its proximity with other States). Zooming makes the second way much more difficult.

Those are the easiest ones to identify bc of there odd shapes like I can’t tell the difference between Colorado and Wyoming but I can see Texas clai and Florida anywhere that is crazy

That was fun. Except zooming in on a random green rectangle. That's quite difficult for a Brit. Not sure I would do a lot better on counties of the United Kingdom if zoomed in and I had to guess based on shape.
In the US we look at states as their shapes fairly frequently. I’m from Arizona and for some reason we love our state shape. You can buy AZ shirts, mugs, stickers of the shape at many outlets, so it’s not so unfamiliar to us.
I know alot of states even though im Filipino lol only things i didn't recognized is Maryland Massachusetts Vermont Kansas Washington (thought its Wisconsin) Connecticut New jersey Mississippi(thought it's alabama) I believe thats all

However, I can put all of the European & South American and most of Asian correctly on the map. Still have trouble with Central America (not Mexico of course lol) and perhaps around half of the African countries all though I haven't tried yet :)
Same as you in not American nor having been to the USA, but I got 47/50 (Michigan threw me, as there are two parts to it; couldn’t think of Arizona or Alabama either). I do play Wheretaken and Statele though, the latter being great for identifying the different states, so that helped a lot.
I had 6 States wrong 😬 Nebraska, Indiana, Kansas, Wisconsin, Arizona & New Jersey! I am from the Netherlands, so I think it's still ok 😊 But I don't like that I messed up Indiana & Arizona 😉 Normaly I do know were they are lol 😂

It depends on where you live, too. I'm in California, and I got 2 wrong. Vermont and New Hampshire I got mixed up.

If it is a small rectangle you are looking at Connecticut. If it is a bigger one, you are looking at either Colorado or Wyoming.
