Is the Honda CRF250L still worth buying in a CRF300L world?

For me I have my crf250l the first version 2013 with all the upgrades ejk tuner kit, acerbis plastic tank, fmf megabomb exhaust pipe, YSS rear shock and 14 - 45 sprocket combination were all good and I am very satisfied with the performance. With the 300L having a slipper clutch is a dis advantage with my colleague feedback the slipper clutch will become a clutch slipping so they replaced it with the conventional clutch assembly of the old 250L.

Awesome video, thanks for sharing your thoughts. I’m looking at one of the two for my first bike in Australia. The 300L is going for around 9K inc ORC that’s a lot of money and there aren’t many around. As much as I love new shiny things it’s hard to justify with a young family. Thank you I think you have opened my eyes to going back to my original decision to purchase the 250L.

The 300 also has a bigger tank and a better seat. But I agree with you, nice to have but not required. I wanted to explore and I found it frustrating that the 250 struggled at 100kph on open roads. No complaints on back roads or dirt after I fitted a YSS shock to the bike. I ended up with a 2014 F700GS with Good 50/50 tires. If you don't need to travel at 100kph, there is no need to spend the money on the 300. Yeah, it's a better bike, but if you want to save money, or you already have one, the 250 is still a great bike.

Thanks. I think if anything happened to my 250 I’d also look at an F700GS. They seem plenty capable still despite the “lesser” suspension compared to the 800GS and a heck of a lot more affordable to boot.

I just bought a 250L in Canada at $4000. A new 300L is going for about $7500 here. That's a lot of extra money (which I didn't have). Thanks for the video.

Interesting. I have one of these on my watchlist. Haven't been on a motorcycle since the mid-late 80's. I've noticed bikes tend to be up on weight and down on power to back then.

Yep that sounds about right. Finding a bike with an alloy frame or a screaming inline 4 is more of a rarity to back then.

@@OnThrottle Yeah. I'm still not ready for a road bike and looking for something small and light. Preferably under 250cc. Previously owned an XL250RC, then went to an XR200RD. Dropped 20% in weight and gained 20% in power.

Not changing mine in a hurry but as the 300 availability improves this will certainly the push 250 price down...some still asking more than I paid and probably you I suspect. A 250 with low k's and lower prices is still an excellent bike.

Exactly! If anything getting a used 250 leaves you with the money to sort the suspension and you’ll still have money left over for mods vs going for the 300.

As another 250 Rally + MotoSR suspension upgrade owner, I'm not interested in upgrading. My bike's only got 12000 km on it, runs like new. You can't really use more power on gravel roads, and it cruises economically at 110 on the main roads with enough left over to cope with a bit of a hill or a bit of a headwind (but not both at the same time). The speed limit is only 100, so actually if there is any traffic around you often end up doing 80 or 90 anyway (at which speed you can overtake pretty well, if there is any point to it.). My bike cost me $7250 (US$4500) brand new, on the road. A new 300 Rally is $12,000 plus ORC .. nearly $13k all up. Ow, no way .. the 250 does the job. YMMV. Note: my road bike is a 1995 BMW R1100RT (owned from new), and my car in a 2008 Subaru, so I'm not the kind of person to upgrade anything when it's barely run in. My last dirt bike was an XR600, bought used and owned for 10 years. Note: I recently fitted a Motoz Rallz 120/90 rear tyre. It fits but ONLY JUST. The moulding spikes hit the chain guard and tread touches the plastic mudguard above the swingarm pivot -- audibly so, especially when rolling backwards. It's only very slight scuffing and not causing problems. The 110/100 might have been a better idea. Other than that I'm enjoying it more than the D606 (which lasted 10,000 km) so far, especially on road. But it's fine in mud too.
