  • Building a retaining wall behind my shop with my Kubota kx080 excavator
    these blocks weigh around 3500 pounds and are perfect for holding back banks. they are relatively cheap aswell. I plan to build a machine shed here using shipping containers and metal trusses. this retaining wall will be the back wall of my building.

    Thanks for posting this! I’ve been super curious about concrete waste blocks for the longest time. Question, what did they charge for each block? Did you find that they settle much? It sounds like you set up a French drain behind it too? Thanks again for posting this!

      Hey I use these blocks very often. They are all over the place as far as price. Was pay $20 a block at the start of
      This project. Just bought some two weeks ago and they wanted $60 a block.
      They will settle if
      You don’t have a decent footer. That wall did not settle at all and is now 4 blocks high.
      It’s normally a good idea to have a drain behind the wall. The blocks are heavy but frost and hydraulic pressure from groundwater is strong.
      Glad you enjoyed!

    Getting ready to do a job like this on my home, gonna be removing 42' of stone retaining wall thats about 50yrs old and collapsing and replacing it with these type blocks.. gonna have to do the old stone removal and any digging by hand then gonna use a crane truck (stepdads) for the lifting/placing of the Bin blocks.. the previous stone wall was made of 2'x2' or smaller river stone that I can typically move by hand with a little muscle and were set on a foundation thats pretty solid, smaller 2 to 3in compacted stone with sand.. it'll only be 2 rows high as the existing wall is just about 3.5' above the dirt so that leaves 6" of play to work with so as to not be below the current wall height, higher is ok.
    With it only being 2 blocks high and 7 wide I'm hoping that any significant settling/shifting will not be a problem. Got a concrete company 2mi from the property that has the 2x2x6' blocks for $50 and the 2x2x3' ones for $45 so im obviously gonna try to use all 6'ers

      Seems like a good project! Gonna be quite a task digging it out by hand. I’d rent a mini excavator if you can swing it. Gonna save your back and a lot
      Of time. I’d fear that one bad rain storm and you are gonna have a major problem if you are caught with the wall removed

    How did you cut the shirt blocks for the corner? I have s corner but it's not a 90. Thanks

      @AbramsExcavating  3 месяца назад

      I’ll either cut a notch in the bottom
      And lap the corners or there’s a company here that makes L shape corners.
      I think this one I cut notches in the bottom

    What’s with the loud idiotic obnoxious background music? Is this a new millennial thing 🤦🏻‍♂️

      ill gladly release a silent version for you if you wish. when a video is timelapsed or sped up you lose audio. there is a mute button however for the few that would rather not have any sort of background music.

    Would these work around a culvert in large pond

    • @AbramsExcavating
      @AbramsExcavating  Год назад

      They should, you would probably have to have to figure out a way to seal around the pipe. It they will definitely hold the bank/pipe
      In place

    isn't it easier to pour concrete?

    • @AbramsExcavating
      @AbramsExcavating  2 года назад +7

      Probably, but I don’t have the forms or the man power to do it effectively. They make these blocks from waste concrete less than 3 miles from my shop. I can buy them, haul them, and set them all myself. Pouring a concrete wall would cost a lot more plus is permanent. If I ever wanted to move or
      Change this wall I can just dig it out and move the blocks.

      These set without footings?

    • @AbramsExcavating
      @AbramsExcavating  2 года назад +2

      @@tonyibarrondo6183 you can put a footer under them. But most retaining walls here just get a good base of stone and that’s it. These blocks weigh 3500lbs each. They don’t move once placed.
