  • Yes the Beaufighter really does have that much ammo, think of a minivan stuffed full of ammo, thats what this is. Also, the cannons can be reloaded several times in-flight. As you can see the landing gear and the flaps weren't cooperating at landing.

    In 1942, Charles Crombie single handedly attacked a squadron of Japanese Betty bombers over Calcutta. One of his wing tanks caught fire so he ordered his observer to bail out while he continued pressing the attacks. He shot down 3 and scored 2 more probables before his wing fuel tanks exploded.

      @@FroggyFrog9000 He was flying an Australian built beaufighter armed with 4 x 20mm hispanos and 4 x 0.5" browning MG. He died 2 weeks after the war ended in a training accident. He was one of 5 men in that generation who were lost to the Crombie family in Queensland. It was a heavy price that family paid.
      When the Japanese started terror bombing Calcutta, over one million people fled the city. Stopping those attacks was imperitive.

    One of the most useful (and underrated) aircraft of WW2. Not the fastest or most manoeuvrable aircraft around, but if you were unlucky enough to end up in the gunsight of those formidable cannon...

    • @keithshackleton3173

      Agree. The Mossie and the Beaufighter are both wonderful aircraft. The Beau, the ten gun terror. Whispering Death. A vastly underrated fighter.

  • @andrewcomerford9411
    @andrewcomerford9411 5 лет назад +18

    SERIOUSLY ! The Beau carried 60 rounds per gun fitted, and a spare drum for each gun. Not only did this give a total of 120rpg, but a loaded drum weighed some 80lb (just shy of 40Kg) and had to be hand-loaded in flight by the navigator. Unsurprisingly, this was replaced by a 120 round belt feed as soon as they became available.

    Love the Beaufighter, but those Bf110s had plenty of forward-firing armament, and would have had at least a chance to dogfight against the Beau if they had tried. Too bad for them they didn't.

    • @gordonfrickers5592
      @gordonfrickers5592 2 года назад

      With respect, the Bf110s performance was seriously inferior to the Beaufighter just as they were also outclalled by the bSpitefires, Hurricanes and Mosquitos of the RAF. As a day gighter, by 1940 the Bf110s were obsolete. They did convert though, into a dangerous night fighter as the painting on my website "the Loss of Halifax DK170", a true incident, shows.

      The more I research about this plane, the more I think it’s been underrated and lost in time, I know the mosquitoes were excellent planes but surly this is comparable to that as (British planes go )
      Ie the spitfire and hurricane.
      They go hand in hand, also did the brits use these a great deal or did the (commonwealth)? Use them to a better extent.
      They did seem to wreck..... up
      I only usually watch real footage and documentaries of planes of the times but these games really gives you a whole different view.
      Bit hooked now.

    Tracer doesn't move in a straight line. If you follow it into the distance the trajectory is curved because of gravity, and when you move the gun, the tracer stream swishes about like a stream of water from a hose. Stories about real Beaufighter victories would be much more interesting than fake victories accomplished by computer simulations.
