As long as it's got good injectors that are flowing more than original ones it shouldn't have a problem. Years ago, a trick was ordering a set of 5.0 Mustang injectors for larger fuel shot. . . This was before the internet got as big for info.
What about this incredibly basic motor makes u think it needs all that? It isnt FI, it isn't high compression, it's just a stock rebuild within upgraded top end pretty much. Just a 5.0 rebuild and not a 4.0.
Such a humble soul, inspirational for real my guy! hemi guy myself. love the dedication hope to be in a similar position someday with my passion love the content! subscribed!
I have an old '93 that I'm doing up and restoring a bit. Family Jeep, grandparents owned it, and I pretty much grew up in the back of that thing. I put the Eldebrock (port matched) head on it, installed some roller rockers, and plan on saving up for Newcomer to work his magic on it. HOWEVER... this 5.0 build is intriguing... I'd be interested to see how it holds up.
@thunderzap2 How'd I justify it? Barely. I went to have my original head machined, and ported, but they found a bad crack. Mainly, I have big plans for this jeep. It has tons of sentimental value. I installed roller rockers, got rid of the mechanical fan and installed an E-fan setup, and installed a Gibson exhaust all at once, so I can't say how much the head alone affected things. All that being done, you can definitely "feel it in the seat" a bit more, but it doesn't blow your socks off. If I didn't have big plans, I wouldn't have bought that head for any old 4.0 as a straight replacement.
Speaking of keeping a 4.0 cool. My wj. I put a ranger clutch fan in it, took the electric out, 160 thermostat but drilled a hole it it. It never goes above 170 now. I should maybe make a short about it.
From what I understand, it’s not good to run “cool” all the time The higher heat apparently helps burn off some impurities or whatever during operation of the system
Matt at Matt's off-road recovery ended up having to put louvers in his hood to help keep his engine cooler after putting a built I-6 in his XJ.🤷 But the wild thing is. I have a 2004 built to pretty much the same specs as yours. (I love people's reaction when I let them drive it! And they freaking TRIP! when they hit the gas! (Even car guys that build engines) I put Borla raptor exhaust on mine. And a throttle body spacer. And people love to argue with me! Telling me I have a V-8! When I tell em ! No It's an I-6! Hell I even beat my coworker in a drag race! And he does have a V-8! No B.S.💯
I know its a bit late to say but after learning something new from the AMXJ channel i quickly learned and understood (cause ive had problems with this) that cylinders 5&6 have very poor flow so to help with that, a bung on the freeze plug thats on the head and the last one on the block receiving coolant from the lower coolant hose/out the pump I'll definitely try that on my personal engine build i have coming up, So far my Daily driven LJ has a 10 Percent OD waterpump pulley and she's pretty happy even in the Texas heat too :D
You read em all? Well when you read this one know that we love your channel up here in MA! Wish you were closer because I’d love to work for you! You’re a great showman and an excellent mechanic!
It’d be super cool to see a dyno comparison of your turbo 4.0 vs your 5.0 vs a stock 4.0! I’d love to see a comparison of dollars per horsepower to see which one gained the most for the least money! Great video and great channel!
My '96 Cherokee closed off. Also I only noticed it when I remove the header panel and replace the radiator in the AC condenser and the header panel cuz it was cracked after it was stolen. I bought it for my daughter. She gave it back to me and then they stole it while it was parked and drove it. Recovered still and got a call from the police saying they had recovered it after it was gone for a month. I asked him if it was wrecked they said no it was running and the perp was asleep in the front seat. I asked them if they would turn it off and pound it for me and that I would come and get it after I renewed the license plate so I can give her all the police impound. I picked it up. They cut the cat off tore out. The overhead council painted my stock wheels and hubcaps and I just finally got all of them back replaced for my daughter. It was in great shape. I put some wheel bearings in the rear and did the rear brakes put some new drums on it. Parked it out front. They stole it again. Got it back. No, no cat again. The right front rocker right behind the wheel and fender they crushed they must have been. I don't know driving over. What have you? It was black. I painted it rattle can camouflage and change your name to Cami I told her they can't see you. They can't steal you
She's in. My garage has been for over a year and a half almost two. Well I am trying to collect Parts hard when you're disabled needing some help. Hit me up
I installed a similar transmission cooler under the drivers side under the front seat. Had to fab a frame and Rock or gravel guard . I used a 12 volt 9x9 fan and now during cold weather have disconnected the fan but will install a switch rather then plugging it back end when the weather warms up again. Had the same issue with the air intake. but plan to build or fab a cowl filter . I removed the plate but there is still too much war air in the engine area need to get cool air to the intake.
Sweet build, she sounds mean. Look at the Azzy’s xj transfer case linkage kit. I got one and it worked well for me. This way you don’t have to deal with the rusty linkage.
K Suspension three electric fan system, with the good fans and a ONE core factory HD radiator. I went with a Summit Racing cheap fan controller(s), 2ea , with better relays. The third fan is connected to the factory harness with a on/off switch with a timer relay. Stock temp T stat because the jeep doesn't run good with a low stat temp (rich).
I believe it was derale but one of those aftermarket companies made a like transmission cooler it may be the engine oil cooler but it is a idea to look into because you could basically mount it in a frame rail or the bottom of the core support for example
hey dex. could you make a video of the easiest way to get the 3 torn bolts on top of Trans. my only complaint with these 4.0s! show a better way to get them out without taking transmission completely out
Hey Dex, there's something out there called water wetter I think it's a pink fluid that drops your coolant temps by 30° I've had good luck with it in the past, you might want to check it out.
Great work! Thank you. I thought you showed where you can remove the gasket from a pressure cap and that shoots the fluid into the overflow bottle, then lets it suck back into the engine?
28:50 Cab Fires are scary! I've been there done that, glad it wasn't anything major!! I think it would be cool if you bring the 5.0 stroker XJ to the drag strip and get a base line before adding anymore mods then you can see how much better (or worse 🤣) the 5.0 stroker XJ is after the mods?
Nice build !! I have a 1998 cherokee sport 5 speed manual just bought, it acted like the flywheel had been hot and shuttering and shaking trying to take off in forward or reverse, put a new clutch, pressure plate, throw out bearing and flywheel and it does the same thing, just wondering if u had seen this before, very frustrating thks for all ur expertise, enjoy ur channel
Put a 90s Honda map sensor on the wj and tune on hptuners the stock Jeep maps don’t read good boost values after 7psi a stock any 90s Honda map is good to 15psi i fought the Jeep map for months before switching worth it
So have you found a way to get an adjustable fuel regulator on these fuel rails ? I thought about seeing if a 87-93 fox body bbk regular would fit the fuel rail and build my own mounting bracket
@2:55 I apologize, but I truly believed you were rocking the jeep to get it going to yabba dabba do it into the garage coasting down the hill like a madman. I will see myself out now. 😂😂😂
can I please get a little more info on the 02 sensors ? I do not have a muffler either and I have a check engine light on for I think downstream , would love a walk through on what it would take and where to install 02 sensors
Hello sir - new to the channel - love this build and I see you are a Jeep enthusiast and I am just getting started. I have a 96 Cherokee (XJ) - pulled engine a couple months ago - got borerd and sleeved - re-installed and I can't get it to start - it turns over - attempts to start (maybe 1 second) but then sounds like it is being "shutoff" - just stops. Have tested and even replaced ASD, replaced CPS, etc. but I don't know what else to check. ANY IDEAS ??? Again love the channel and appreciate you taking us along on your journey.
@ right on at the time I did mine there wasn’t many options my local machine shop polished the ports but it seemed restricted still. There were a few really expensive aftermarket heads that cost more than having the motor built so needless to say I didn’t buy them.
Dex what do you do about the old R12 AC units? Do you still use them or just chuck them in the trash? (I've seen your air compressor video, but wondering more about using them as AC again)
Reuse them for 134a or whatever they are using now, you can get the conversion kit at O’Reillys to change your R12 fittings over to 134a, but remember to only fill the 134a to 80% of the R12 capacity. I did this over 10 years ago to my 91 XJ and it works great to this day in 100+ degree temps.
Well more peace of mind for me my stroker and same afr it's very close to this video mines a 93 and stock ECU I would like to figure out why it won't go past 4200rpm but it will still run 80mph and make it 3 miles to local gas station for more 93 octane been reading and watching videos but nothing has helped the limited rpms, micro squirt and standalone harness in the future when funds allow just some easy break-in miles around the block until then
That engine running on pump gas, without a tune, and not pinging may be the wildest part of this build.
Timing tables on the factory computer are very conservative !

@timbyerly4286 it's a stroker motor with an entirely different crank, pistons, cam...what do you mean basic?😂
Dex dont stop! This is the coolest car build on youtube. I love you sharing the little details ! Thats what makes you a cut above the rest
My favorite part was the random humming bird
I love the candid Kitty camera they do sometimes 😂 I don't mind seein what the lil meowster is up to

My favorite color on a xj Looks red /orange , amazing build dex keep it up 👍
I think it’s called Chili. My 99 is the same color.
@@Deadbuck73 The one I’m thinking of is called MAR or something,
Put that turbo on that stroker motor 🛵 and you would have a ride foreshore 🏁🇺🇲💯🔥

Great video Dex love what you do ❤
Think it would be kinda cool if you boosted this one...normal 4.0 can handle roughly 8-12 psi of boost. 12+ will burn a valve if I'm not mistaken
I need to bring my TJ by and have you drop a hot motor in it!
Doing a resto myself. I LOVE the straight 6.
Jeep could use so old school desert (white) rims, nice motor build.
Freaking Awesome Build!
That is a really nice Black XJ and Blue WJs also it would be cool for a Wj with a stroker. Maybe like a "sleeper" 2wd one?

@zachzimmer6922 I don't know off hand the cam but springs are upgraded and RR too. Don't think it's floating more like something ECU related.
