    Once you’re done digging that whole bad boy aesthetic and you finally emerge practically choking on your own heart coz it’s been bashed up for so long, doesn’t every gal just wish a nice solid guy like Riley would show up and love you the way he did for Buffy.
    Some guys (girls too in fact) are simply happy with just a hint of BDE, whereas Riley had that whole hubby material going for him. I’m not even that drunk but it’s Bonfire (Guy Fawkes) Night here in the UK, yet even Mr Blucas is shooting off more fireworks than the whole of England is right now. Even at nearly 51, you just know he’s probably married, it’s palpable enough that it doesn’t even require official verification. I’m even happy for him, poor guy getting all fired off that vampire show an’ all. I’m actually wishing him (and the children he most definitely has) all the best. Cheers.

    • @decay6516
      @decay6516 Год назад +2

      @@laurahays407 yes, that's what the symbolism was for cheating. That's why when she sees Riley again and he's married, they're fighting rapidly reproducing demons representing how quickly buffy felt he moved on and started a family and she didn't feel good enough (working in an abhorrent uniform and given an ultimatum at the end of their relationship) until buffy started to like Rileys new wife and she was just happy for them both. I may have watched this show in succession at least 12 times. The symbolism is layers on layers

    It wasn't much chemistry between him and Sarah on screen. Maybe, that's was a point.

    • @rytterl
      @rytterl 2 года назад +7

      I somewhat disagree. The characters had a lot more chemistry before they found out about each other. And in the episode where Dawn is suddenly there, they have more chemistry than usual.
      But as a whole, I agree. Less chemistry than the characters should have on screen.

    • @HelloXrancidkitteh
      @HelloXrancidkitteh 2 года назад +1

      I think they had chemistry. it was just hard to follow after the passion Angel and Buffy had. if you don't compare them, they had chemistry. plus at the time, pretty much everyone were Bangle shippers and Riley was Buffy's first actual boyfriend after Angel. plus, ontop of everything, Sarah and David were besties in real life...literally close enough to where people even were suspicious that they were secretly dating until she got with Freddie.

    Riley was one of the least loved characters, and no wonder, since his relationship with Buffy seemed doomed at first.and how could he compare to Angel?Or even Spike?

    • @cherylh4688
      @cherylh4688 Год назад +1

      I didn't know any of this. Didn't even know he got fired. I really liked the guy, both on his own AND with Buffy. And I thought he did a great job as the character and felt so bad for him and Buffy when she arrived only moments after his helicopter lifted off.
      I think you could've blamed the lack of chemistry between them on the Buffy character holding herself back bc of all her issues AND being still in love with Angel. But I don't think, even if he had seen her waiting for him, that he could ever have had with her all that he wanted from her. Bc of her "job," she wasn't capable of that. But still, I think they could have made it work and been happy together for a long time.
      But then, ofc, we would have missed all the hanky panky and doomed romance between Buffy and Spike, and esp his transformation into a good guy, all of which is still my favorite part of the whole series!

    • @x-man9473
      @x-man9473 Год назад +1

      @@cherylh4688 No. Riley did the right thing and moved on with a better woman (Sam).
      >Buffy's problem is that in relationships, she can't get over her never ending Angel obsession and keep every man she dates at a distance. Mix that in with her emotional detachment and her Slayer duties, and the odds of any man having a long term relationship with her is minor.
      >Spike allowed himself to be used by Buffy even when he got his soul just for any form of affection he could get from her. And we see that she manipulated him and treated him like a convenience from beginning to end.
      >Riley actually had standards and wanted a real emotional connection. Not just making out and being thrown to the side. He deserved better. Eventually, he respected himself, went out and found a better woman. Kudos to him.

    • @cherylh4688
      @cherylh4688 Год назад +3

      @@x-man9473 Well, with regard to "Buffy's problem," I thought I had already said that. But thanks for clarifying.
      As to Spike, however, I think we may have to agree to disagree, bc I think towards the end, after she recognized and understood his sacrifice in getting back his soul, she started to see his humanity and DID start to love him. Not like Angel, ofc - her first love - but enough that they would always have been friends (and maybe even friends with benefits). She started to see him, and genuinely CARE for him, just as we all did, lol😉
      And with Riley, I also disagree. I think he couldn't handle it when he lost his superpowers, bc then he couldn't feel even equal to her, let alone any "masculine superiority," which was part of his ideal of a satisfying traditional relationship. No fault of hers, ofc, but she could never have given him that bc of her job, not bc of her love for Angel.
      Ofc, no one ever feels quite the same as they did with their first love - esp when it's a tragic love - but I do think she was growing to love Riley as much as she could have, and that bc of his insecurities and feelings of inadequacy after that chip was removed, he couldn't see that. So he sought it with the vamp who needed his blood to survive.
      But if he could have accepted their role reversal at the physical level, and "manned up" enough to see how much she DID need him at the emotional level - how much she actually leaned on him for that level of support - then I think they had enough in common that they could possibly have had a satisfying relationship. And if not for forever, well how many of us find that anyway?
      So instead of finally respecting himself, I think it was fear and weakness - weakness of ego, mostly, and fear of not being enough - that drove Riley away. And the final straw was when he actually met Angel and realized how little he could compete with that beauty, mystery, and with supernatural powers besides! He just couldn't take the competition, bc instead of finally respecting himself, even HE began to wonder how she could ever be satisfied with him after what she'd had with Angel.
      But pls don't misunderstanding me: I mean no disrespect to Riley, who I liked a LOT! His reaction was entirely understandable, in my opinion. Just sort of unfortunate and sad.
      But for Buffy, there was still Spike, who came to know and understand her better than any of them and I think was probably her proper match, for all his flaws. And my favorite scene of theirs was when she confided in him, after being brought back from the dead by Willow, that she had been in heaven. She knew he would understand, and the depth of that trust and chemistry between them in those moments was breathtaking. I doubt there was anyone else in her life who would have listened with such presence and such selfless empathy and compassion, or who wouldn't have quickly made it about themselves. I'd love to have a friend like that.
