    I'm in the UK. Built a small cheap metal shed 10 foot by 8 foot to use as a small workshop. Had no condensation issues at all with it I presume because it's very well ventilated, air gaps galore everywhere, because it's cheap lol. But the temperature outside now is -1 C (30F),clear blue skies. Bitter. Inside and outside the shed is dripping. That's cold metal meeting slightly warmer air. So I guess I want a covering for the metal, but not a total vapour barrier as I don't think that's viable or even desirable. Just something to prevent the cold surface meeting warmer air. You've used foam . That' a bit pricey for my little space. I'm wondering what else I can do. I guess the most important thing is to have no air gap between insulating material and metal surface or condensation will still form behind it. Need to turn a condensing surface into a non condensing one. Hard to do with anything but foam because of the corrugated pattern. I dunno, am trying to puzzle it out :D.

    Boss you are right, I have 2 inches of closed cell in my shop in Texas and not a drop off of my shop

      Yes sir, absolutely! 2” of closed cell is a way to fail proof it. I just have 1”

    Thank you I have a carport metal open an it drips from the humidity in Texas. I’m actually across from one of your builds in Rendon . It was turning black after the heat hit. I’ve recently had it power washed and painted with a good paint . So if I close in three sides an insulation added you think the dripping will stop . Sorry didn’t mean to write a book . You may be doing a new build on my back property.
    Thanks for any help with my question.

      Awesome.. yea well every little bit could make a difference for sure. With a closed cell foam you would be best to have all sides closed.

    Did you do spray foam on roof and upper walls only?

    Would you also recommend open cell instead of doing closed cell. Or would you recommend to only go with closed?

    • @TexasBestBarndominium
      @TexasBestBarndominium  9 месяцев назад +4

      Direct to metal should be only closed cell. Open cell foam is porous, it’s good for filing wall cavities but not blocking moisture.

    I insulated with R15 and did plastic underneath insulation, yet it's STILL sweating. My biggest mistake was not using felt paper beneath the metal roof. 🤦

      Yea… man sorry to hear that. The closed cell foam really helps prevent that condensation. Obviously the best solution costs more money which is to have a full air barrier such as the zip system over the roof prior to roof installation.

    As soon as you went into the area with foam as you panned the camera a drop of water went right past the camera. So does it drip alittle or not at all?

    Are we not just not seeing the moisture trap between the insulation and the metal. Mold growth?

    Adequate decking and rain Shinedown, then metal roof then you can spray the inside with expand foam and your leaks or condensation buildup from the metal roof. Will run off the side of the building versus inside the foam then down

    We are in Northern California and we have a metal roof on our outdoor patio. 2 sides of the patio is the house and the other 2 sides are open. How can we stop the condensation? We don't get it often out here but we do get it occasionally and quite of bit of it when it does. Looks like it rained on the inside of the patio.

      Check the link in the description for the Drip Stop product. I don’t know if this product is retrofitted but it may help you come up with a solution along the way. You may not be able to fully prevent this under a metal covered porch outside. If the purlins are exposed you might consider a bottom cover

    I dream of a tubular structure. Turned into a northern Michigan cabin.
    Basically off grid. Wood burning stove heat some cooking. 20 X 60 foot I
