Full rights to Jeff Williams, Casey Lee Williams, Alex Abraham and RoosterTeeth.
Five years ago today, the RWBY fandom, the RoosterTeeth community, and the animation industry in general lost a good man. Dedicated to a fault and passionate in pursuit of his goals, Monty Oum was much more than just an animator and creator. He was a friend, a brother, a son, a husband, and an inspiration to many. His commitment and drive, though sometimes to his detriment, were a result of incredible love and a desire to make something that would reach well beyond himself.
Five years ago, Matt Hullum, then-CEO of RoosterTeeth asked not for flowers or well-wishes, but for us - the community - to carry his spark. To do something creative, so that we may prove Monty correct in his belief that the human spirit is indomitable. To be a place of passion and new ideas, of love for our work and the work of others, of continuing commitment to improve ourselves and the world around us.
A lot has happened in those years. The world seems a much colder, darker place than it was. It is easier than ever to feel truly alone; useless, and inconsequential. But as long as one person carries on with that same desire, that same commitment, that same passion, bearing that flame, we will not get lost. At times it may flicker, at times we may fumble, but it will not go out. And if you take a moment and look around, you may find you are not so alone after all.
One day at a time. One step at a time. Just *keep moving forward.*
_"I believe the human spirit is indomitable. If you endeavor to achieve, it will happen given enough resolve. It may not be immediate, and often your greater dreams are something you will not achieve within your own lifetime. The effort you put forth to anything transcends yourself, for there is no futility even in death."_ *[Monty Oum, 1981-2015]*
What a great man god bless his soul
Beautiful words my friend
Even though I have only known about Monty for a year now, I can say that all his work and inspirations have been some of the best I have seen. Monty will forever live through his work and undying legacy.
Also nice, amazing words
Beautiful :')
Man, that hit my heart
It's map fashioned from a stain. I remember the RT crew talking about how Monty modeled the map of Remnant after a ketchup stain lol
Even the greatest of universes find their origins in the least expected ways.
Somehow I nearly cried when I saw that verse
How did a Ketchup stain resemble two dragons?
@@pablotomasllodra4423 Monty had the ketchup on a napkin I believe and was prodding it around until it looked as he wanted it to
@@pablotomasllodra4423 The dragons were a coincidence. Which makes it so much cooler.
This should play on Rwby's final episode, and after the credit's roll show Monty's famous qoute

Well I’m crying
In the beginning, RWBY was just a great show. Awesome fight scenes, comedy, and teenagers being teenagers. But then the story developed: The characters, their motivations, their hopes and dreams, and how they had to grow up so much faster than they should have.
Ruby, the silver-eyed leader, who wants to be a hero.
Weiss, the girl who took her life back from the ones who wished to use her
Blake, the Faunus who decided to stop running
Yang, the Sun who stood back up ready to burn
Jaune, the boy who led and lost and moved forward. He earned his place in Beacon, even if it had fallen.
Ren, who faced his demons from the past and won, but never alone.
Nora, the lightning bolt with a strong heart who had lost everything as a child.
Pyrrah, the Invincible Girl who learned how to open up to her team, and walked into that tower knowing her destiny.
We'll never forget.
Monty Oum, you have left a legacy, just like you always wanted. Beyond your lifetime, and forevermore.
nevermore will he go unknown
A "Beacon" unto the world. That's why I have so much respect for those who create. Even though they pass on, through their works they are immortal. The worlds they create forever etched in our hearts. RIP Monty.
Yeah, RWBY is such a great show. Monty will forever be a legend
Ngl I almost cried
Respect for Monty. May he rest in peace. He was the reason he give us one thing to keep forward : it's the strength of the soul and an indomitable spirit and a courageous will and also a generous, humble, kind but yet brave heart.
I also just realized that a bunch of the lyrics are what Monty Oum himself says.
Everyone loved him. He is still loved to this very day.
@@Sorablu12 yeah, he will forever be a legend
Ya'll remember when we thought that "Lets Just Live" was the big sendoff?
yeah....
I thought "Cold" was the big sendoff.
I dont think we will ever not get homages to Monty till the show ends.
“I believe that the human spirit is indomitable. If you endeavor to achieve, it will happen given enough resolve. It may not be immediate, and often your greater dreams are something you will not achieve within your own lifetime. The effort you put forth to anything transcends yourself, for there is no futility even in death.”
Monty Oum, 1981 -2015
There are no truer words than that...
It's amazing how he himself is an example of his quote.
May he rest in his legacy and in heaven
Monty is awesome
Monty Oum and Stan Lee are probably having one amazing conversation with the other fiction writers up in heaven.
😢 RIP my 2 favorite world makers. 😢
RIP Stan lee
And Monty Oum.
May all the gods of their own worlds converse in heaven and continue their great works
Stan Lee daw. ULUL!
Maybe they’re working on a collab and we’ll see it when we get to heaven.
"It's map fashioned from a stain?" I see what you did there.
Nice callback on how Mounty created the remnent map
The greatest song off the entire Volume 6 album.
I would dare say the best song in the entire series .
@@brucealmighty3268 I agree
Home is a close 2nd :)
Easily top three
@@MilodicMellodi isn't Home from volume 4? Also, I disagree this is the best song in Volume 6: too pop-sounding. It's a cheap way to get the emotion across, and it fails to reach people with any real musical experience, because quite simply, something so powerful as a soul can't be described so simply. It's much deeper and meaningful than what the music would make you feel. Just my personal opinion, I understand you might disagree
Who else is here on the first of February
Rest In Peace, Monty Oum
Thank you for creating this wonderful series
Thank you Monty, you were right. Your legacy has lasted for 4 years and counting since your passing. Its become bigger than anything you imagined. We're glad you can watch it grow from the heavens above. We miss you Monty.
Same as well
Respect, RIP Monty Oum
But..... various people in RT have stated that Monty had already written what has happened up to now. RT hasn't enacted everything in his vision yet.
Despite all the fans saying they should have quit, they continued. While it's far from perfect, RWBY is still very much enjoyable. They never took a dip in writing because of Mony's departure, it's because they were finding the secret he left. And with Volume 7 being delayed, they have time to restore RWBY to glory among animation. Power to you, Rooster Teeth, keep your passion burning bright.
This February is going to be the 4th anniversary since Monty's passing but deep down in all of us we shall not forget Monty Oum for the anime style web series and unforgettable characters he has created.
god if you play the song at 3:38 every time casey takes a breath you can hear the emotion. it like a staggering breath i feel as if she was crying while singing this
Before the release of the soundtrack, I thought this song would be a big, badass power ballad. It's not, but it's still the best on the soundtrack hands down. No questions asked, nothing can top it.
Rest in peace, Monty. You were an inspiration and a treasure, and you will be missed.
Its much like Monty and his greatest creation. He truly was a humble individual. And his creation has become bigger than anything we could've ever imagined when we first watched the Red trailer all those years ago
I thought the same. If anything this is better than a power ballad due to how builds and flourishes just like Monty and his dream.
He's still an inspiration because of what he's left behind. That's the beauty of his approach to life.
I really want to be mad because it´s so different from what I expected, but man is that hard with tears in your eyes...
I disagree this is the best song in Volume 6: too pop-sounding. It's a cheap way to get the emotion across, and it fails to reach people with any real musical experience, because quite simply, something so powerful as a soul can't be described so simply. It's much deeper and meaningful than what this music would make you feel. Just my personal opinion, I understand you might disagree. Monty himself might have been humble, but he wanted his creation to transcend, and I just don't think this music does that justice
One of my few regrets in life so far is that I never went to an RTX and met Monty
He was an inspiration to me, and I always thought "next year I'll go, I can't do it this time" every year
And then he died, and i never went
Rip Monty, you were a hero to me and so many others
I felt the same way with Stan Lee, ever since i was little hes been an inspiration to me. I always said that one day maybe ill get to meet the man that helped spark my own creativity.......
Unfortunately i was never able to.
Heres to the creative geniuses who have done so much for all of us! May thier souls be at peace.

Love your video! Nice touch adding the quote at the beginning. That was just an extra punch in the gut to everybody, lol.
Oof

in all seriousness the quote was a great touch
Thank you, Flynt!

@@a-mellowtea His comment needs to be pinned.
Monty is the reason i'm still here
3:37: How her voice wavers in these lines breaks my heart. Then again this entire song as a whole fills it with so much joy. The CRWBY may have their flaws. They may not be the best at what they do. But they're all learning still and they don't lose sight of their roots. Indomitable isn't only about Monty. It's about a group of people that have refused to let down their friend even after his death, and they continue to do so with every step they keep going. They all still hold him in their hearts and dedicate everything they achieve to him and the lessons they learned from him. They really are an amazing bunch. This whole song is beauty in its most powerful form. I'm not even trying to hold back my tears.
And despite all the backlash the fans have given them, they've continued on with the strength of a million men. "Achieving anything as long as our heart's resolved" is absolutely correct.
They really must be taking this line to heart, "If you endeavor to achieve, it will happen given enough resolve."
They keep learning and growing no matter what
That’s why, in spite of all the shit that I’ve seen this fandom do and the awful shenanigans RT gets itself into, I’ll still stick with the series until the very end. Regardless of the quality, bad or good, I would be doing Monty a disservice if I stopped now, so I’ll solider on with watching RWBY until the sun burns out of the sky.
How to make a fandom cry.
step 1: watch this.
step 2: realisation
step 3: cry as well, as you remember a great man has passed but be happy as his works will never be forgotten.
Listening to this and realizing its gonna be 6 years next month
Casey really knocked it out of the park with this one. Holy shit.
I know that somewhere out there, there’s a fourteen-year-old farmhand with the voice of a genius in his head and no idea what to do. We still love you Monty
A man I never met changed my life in ways that I could never have imagined
This hurts so much for me to listen to. It feels less about rwby and more akin to Monty's words, talking to us, guiding us. I hope his lessons will be remembered for a very long time.
We could say that RWBY is the REMNANT of Monty,

There's a light that shines,
And it's power is mine!

*Indomitable!*
Let's just live because, even when there's a point where it tips and a point where it breaks and the world well they see you as just a child, when it falls if your spirit is indomitable the triumph will will be ours and with us from shadows the loneliest of all and others who may be burdened by a royal test will join us and, rising like the moon, share the loss. Then our previous oppressors will realise that in the past they were standing to close to a flame that's burning hotter than the sun in the middle of July. So remember

Well, so much for not crying...I've got into RWBY like two days after his death. TWO DAYS. I'll never get to meet this man. The creator of such an amazing world and someone well loved by family, friends, colleagues, and fans.

You know this song says a lot of things but the main one is that nothing lives forever but to make a something that will in time be lost to the ages and enjoy the time it takes to make it R. I. P Monty
I heard it as the fact that we don't live forever, so make something that will.
Yep ☺
@@Pikaton659 that was actually another of Montys quotes too, "The goal isnt to live forever, it's to create something that does"
Sure, life sucks sometimes, and everything's imperfect...
"But that's why we're here...to make it better."
I SEE WHAT YOU DID THERE 😀
"Its map fashioned from a stain"
Fun fact in case anyone doesn't know: Monty actually came up with the Remnant world map from a ketchup stain on a napkin lol 😅 the little things that build a big world
For it is in passing that we achieve immortality.
Through this, we become a paragon of virtue and glory to rise above all.
I release your soul, and by my shoulder protect thee.
Why does his own words have to explain his life and legacy so perfectly?
We'll never forget Monty Oum. His memories will live on inside us for eternity. It will never fade, no matter how many millennia have pass
Monty never got the chance to see his series grow, but he was a animator and writer.
This song hits me so hard, I actually got into Rwby the day Monty died. Now listening to this makes me cry. Rest In Peace Monty, thank you for giving us RWBY!
I've had this on loop for the past hour

I can't get the song outta my head ❤💙🖤💛
Same here but since I woke up at 10. 😋
I agree and same
Jesus, I knew this song would be emotional and powerful from the little they had in the Season 6 finale, but God, I didn't think it'd make me cry like this. Second I saw the quote I knew I was gonna be in for it. This might surpass "Wings" as my favorite RWBY song. ;_;
Wings
*Power level transcending the known universe*
This world was not ready for Monty Oum. But he graced us with his presence anyway.
One of the best 3D fight ANIMATOR R.I.P Monty Oum
I truly thought the second version of the chorus would go
" There is a light that shines
And it's power is life"
I don't know coupled with the MINE verse, it would be a great reference to both Ruby's power "life is precious and it must be protected" AND Monty's power of Creation that breathed life into this universe.
Peter Saints well the relic of knologe soumons gin what if creation somons someone resembling mr Oum?
when RWBY ends, this song must play, or else we riot, because its perfect, no show is perfect, but there are perfect scenes and songs, and this is the latter
Thank you Monty for making us Keep Moving Forward.
I'd like to think that this is ruby's true theme. Like she had problems in the beginning, some personal problems and turnoil, but in the present, she is getting over them and thinking, fighting ,and acting more like a huntress, more like her mother apparently was, it feels like this song is a milestone of that
I know this song hit hard for Crwby. This goes to you Monty Oum you are a god amongst gods and you were truly a blessing to this world. We will keep moving forward for the sake of you we love you RIP ❤️🙏🏽
Punch the Two Brothers in their dragon noses for us while you're up there, okay Monty? We'll be there one day.
“Even briliant lights will cease to burn”
I never got to meet Monty, not even via internet, I only knew about RWBY by 2017, before volume 5 was confirmed. I joined when he was already gone.
and no RWBY song has ever made me cry, only sad.
this; however, I can feel the pain of everyone with Monty's loss.
and makes me cry.
I wish, I was able to meet Monty.
I've seen like a few clips of vids with Monty and I can say he was a great guy. And this song makes me understand how much of a loss his death was
Monty, you may rest in peace, but you will forever live in our hearts
your project of RWBY may has lost you, but RWBY has made an awesome community, has changed a lot of us, and we shall move onward, and I hope you're happy, as death shall not mean the end of your goal.
I know it's still painful, even for people who may not have been in the RWBY or general RT community as long as some others. It's not something I myself have been able to completely understand, as Monty was a complete stranger to a large majority of us. Yet, there's still this odd ache. It speaks magnitudes of how influential and inspiring a man he was; that his loss can be felt so acutely by people who have never met him.
However, while Indomitable is emotional, it is, at its core, a celebration. What we remember most of Monty is "keep moving forward", and this song tells us to do just that. Be happy for the things he did, the life he lived, take heart in his lessons and do the very best we can to take that next step. At the end of the day, I have a feeling Monty knew he was just one man, but that he had the opportunity to inspire so many others to pursue their dreams.
There's that light in all of us. Our spirits are indomitable. We just have to keep going.
Blazing Kite Dont worry I never got to see Monty by personal. I watched Rwby late. Volume 5 wasn't there yet. I came back cause Rwby ads pop out XD
I'm trying to live by these words as I venture on my own path. Thank you crwby, rwby, and of course Mr. Oum for such an amazing show.

I'm crying.
Monty was a great man.
Rest in peace Monty, you inspired all of us❤
I met a man
He had a dream
I tried to understand, but
Nothing was what it seemed
Sometimes
That's how gods roll
We'd sit for hours
He'd share his plans
To build a universe, and
Make every part by hand
A big scheme
With an infinite goal
So, I would watch and listen, and try to learn
As piece and bits become whole
But there was more going on than the work at hand
What I learned had to do with the strength of the soul
There's a light that shines
And its power is mine
Though our body's weak and breakable
The spirit is indomitable
So, step by step
And frame by frame
A world created
It's not fashioned from a strain
Just dream big
Then work till it grows
I learned this lesson
We can evolve
Achieving anything
As long as our hearts resolve
Believing
We'll make it so
Though our lives are limited by years on earth
And dreams will be bound inside
The goal is not to live forever
Cause eternity loves the creations of time
There's a light that shines
And its power is mine
Though our body's weak and breakable
The spirit is indomitable
Don't be afraid
Get up, get going, a step every day
I need you there
When we strive, we transcend
Even death cannot end our climb
I wasn't ready
You can't prepare
For the unthinkable
For something that's so unfair
It's cruel, but
That's how life goes
But through the sadness
Thousands of tears
We see his message
Sparkling crystal clear
Our world is larger than we know
There's a light that shines
And its power is mine
Though our body's weak and breakable
The spirit is indomitable
A man I never met, touched my heart in ways I never knew possible. Move on not there yet. Thank you Monty
We love you, Monty...
You work has inspired me more that you will ever know.
You showed us that anything is possible, given enough resolve...
For the spirit is indomitable.
I wish I could have met you.
This Man change my life forever even tho I never met him I’ll still love RWBY always and forever
despite the lyric being a direct reference to monty, I believe it can also be applied to ozpin.
Same, but I believe it could be applied to just about anything and everything.
I mostly think it's for Ruby. Mostly because, even learning about everything, she still wants to protect her friends and family and do what's right, like making sure that Jinn is placed somewhere safe. In the end, she's filled with hope, something that everyone needs at the end of the day.
i cry when i listen to this. the awesome headmaster ozpin we know and love is dead, now we have little boy Ozpin that RT never focuses on, and everybody fricking hates Ozpin which he doesnt deserve and ahaahjadshnjksnbfkjbfildhfsidlksksksksksksksks

I love that the song is basically a thank you note to Monty from everyone. For creating this light, a map fashioned from a stain, the sadness and a thousand tears now he's gone but the legacy he has created and how the spirit that lives on through RWBY is Indomitable! ❤️
Monty made me want to be a 3D animator. I have little skill yet, and no good creations to my name, but i have something, or someone, to aim for.

I truly am grateful to listen to this song. Being a newcomer and finishing volume 7. I go back to previous soundtrack. This might just be my favorite song of RWBY. The lyrics are just powerful and brought to life by Casey. Thank you for this amazing message of following your dreams and leaving something behind. I write RWBY for the purpose of leaving something behind to last forever....

My new second favorite song in this series, right after This Life is Mine. Top 5: 1) This Life is Mine, 2) Indomitable, 3) Red Like Roses (both parts), 4) Bad Luck Charm, 5) I May Fall.
Seriously up from the "I wasn't ready, you can't prepare" to the end I just tear up. I love this song so much.
Bro when she hit that "WEEeeeEEak" note at 1:31, I fricken melted bro. Heavenly voice right there.
My chills got chills
Monty will live in our hearts forever. And we will always love him.
Well, im crying. I knew this song would be emotional, but DAMN. Rest in peace Monty.
Wow, just wow.
From the quote at the beginning to the speed of the lyrics changing with the tone of the song to the greyscale-into-color flash at the end of the first Chorus, to the fade to white (rather than a fade to black, likely to compliment the meaning of the song) this was really well put together. If Flynt wants to beat this one he's got his work cut out for him!
I especially like how you didn't give credit to Monty directly for that quote, because we already _know_ who said it and we didn't need you to tell us. That single _little_ touch, whether you meant to do it or not, was, in my opinion, the difference between making this a respectful tribute and a "I'm going to beat you over the head with sad now" situation.
Thank you! That means a lot. Given the purpose of Indomitable, my goal was to keep it as respectful a tribute as possible, so I'm glad I managed to keep it that way.
I feel like this song is about both Monty and Ozpin, from Ruby’s perspective.
“He had a dream...But nothing was what it seemed. Sometimes, that’s how gods roll”
“He’d share his plans to build a universe...A big scheme with an infinite goal.”
“I learned this lesson: we can evolve. (Referencing his belief in humanity’s goodness.)
And then the parts about dreams lasting beyond death are referencing our heroes taking on his fight.
“I wasn’t ready, you can’t prepare...For something that’s so unfair” (Salem not being able to be killed.)
“But through the sadness...We see his message (That humanity is worth fighting for)
Obviously Ozpin didn’t always believe the above or apply it in practice, but it is the message he tried to impart on those he mentored.
I’m happy that the full song is out, but the lyrics are stabbing me in the feels, Rest In Peace Mounty Oum
I was waiting for the full song to come out since the episode aired. My soul feels complete at last
