In the late 80's-early 90's ALL sweaters we wore were long & oversized (basically we shopped in men's section). That oversized look is coming back & I am glad. It's cozy & relaxed. I think the under 40 set has been raised on the tiny, tight, cropped looks of the 2000's. Trust me, leave it long -you won't regret the comfort & you'll be the first one on-trend! #KeepItLong #90sTrend

A good trick for doing a sewn bind off with a delicate yarn (unspun, loose spun singles, etc) is to move the stitches to a needle that's several sizes small than the working needle just for the BO. That opens up a big gap between the stitches on the needle and the needle itself, so there is almost no friction on the sewing yarn from pulling it through the stitches.

I think your idea about the sweater is just perfect. I would wear it like this for a while and you might want to just keep it long as you don’t have other ones that long and if you get tired of it you can always shorten and feel like you have a new sweater. I do love that look on you, but you look great in every look and style of course ❤❤❤

I am also up here in Alaska and thinking the same thing. We have to love the show or else why do we live here right? I was born and raised here and it is almost hard to imagine not having snow from oct/nov - march/april lol. It was so precious seeing your kids get to sled. I am so glad you guys are soaking up the glorious snow while you have it!! :)))

Here in coastal NC we get an occasional snow….not 2-3 per year like in Arkansas. We get snow maybe every five years. Last snow for us was 2018. In my lifetime (70 yo), I remember three large snowfalls (14 + inches). One in 1972, 1980, 1989. I love snow and everything comes to a standstill.

I think your Noro sweater looks great long with tight pants. You should keep it to have variety in your wardrobe and then knit a another one cropped if you want it. JMHO❤ Also, your cabled sweater looks stunning! I'm a new knitter and haven't tried cables yet but that one is definitely making me want to bite the bullet and try. If you have a beginner cable knit pattern you would recommend, I would love you to share it!

I love your long brown sweater just the way it is! For times when you want it shorter you could do the hack of belting it near the ribbing and letting the rest of the fabric hang over the belt. For your new cast-on, I like the rust with the homespun because it's not brown like the sweater you just made. Do a swatch with both colors in it and see what you like best. You're so fun to watch and love all the knitting you get done. I have worked on 1 sweater since December. I must be really slow!

Kaci, I love this sweater. The colour is gorgeous on you. I’m feeling the same about the “dryer” - will probably shrink all over. I think your idea to wear for a while “as is” is a good move. Listen to what you said at the beginning of this podcast and it will tell you something. You talked about the really limited days you get to wear all the knits. Clearly you love this sweater and it looks great on you so it would be for these kind of days. If you want to wear it more then maybe shorten. Listen to me!!! Kaci, you do you. Hoping all is going well with your Dad. Keep smiling that beautiful smile. ❤️❤️❤️

Great episode as always! I really like your version of the snowy forest sweater. I love the oversized sweater. I always end up cropping my knits because I get tired of knitting on them so I would take the happy accident of the sweater growing more than you thought as a win! Now you have a super oversized sweater that you can style with leggings or some thinner jeans- or potentially over a long skirt- and you’ve filled that gap in your wardrobe and don’t need to do miles of stockinette again! You could also get some elastic to tie around your waist under the sweater and tuck the bottom of the sweater into the elastic to wear it cropped if you’d ever want to.

I agree with others that the combination of comfort and the trending status of '80s length sweaters is a good reason to wear your sweater, as is, for as long as that works for you. You knit so many sweaters that you can afford to have one that's dramatically different from the others. Rather than seeing the length as limited in styling possibilities, I imagine it a way to break open some possibilities in your wardrobe. Whatever you decide to do, I hope you enjoy it!

thank you for this episode: now I want Heirloom Quilt Cardigan, I love that shape of cardigan, and I imagined immediately my all outlook in that. Thank you this:)
I would leave the length of Noro sweater, I think it's a great addition for your wardrobe and I think it's looks very nice on you, and even if you wish, I imagine super light fabric fulls skirts under it, light because fabric will not made bulky look under sweater, but out of it it will beautifully fluttering skirt at the step.

If you decide to shorten your sweater, here is a suggestion. Rather than picking the binding apart the binding and ripping back, you could consider stringing a ravel cord through a row of stitches to hold them, rip back the number of rows you want to eliminate and then graft the sweater to the bottom section and ribbing. Just an idea. Lovely to see your work.

I think you look lovely in the longer length with leggings. It’s good to have a variety of lengths of sweater in your wardrobe to give you options. However, if you eventually decide to shorten it maybe try cutting the ribbed hem off, removing the excess and grafting the pieces back together again, especially as you have done a sewn bind off which will be a bit of a pain to unpick. Thanks for another fabulous podcast jxx

I know I’m sorry for this but the good thing is you don’t need to finish your wip! I’ll be continuing to work on mine after so the kal will sort of keep on running. But to enter all you need to do is post a pic of your cast on!

regarding cabling without a cable needle and needed grippy yarn, I thought it was just me! I hate having to keep up with that cable needle or even a dpn. So I'm powering through the Arctic Light Sweater right now. Some of the cables absolutely need the cable needle because of the order that you work the stitches, so it's been challenging but fun for sure.

I love it long and oversized! It looks great as is but you could always go back in and do a split hem to open it up a bit at the bottom :)

I think your sweater looks exactly like the inspiration pics you showed :) it looks lovely- and maybe a bit of a different shape to what you already have? I'd love a big cosy sweater but can't be bothered to knit something bigger than I have to ha!

It's really cute at the length it is, but I'd add square pockets though. It has to bring you as much joy or more, to wear, than it was to knit, so if you don't like the way it grew, definitely shorten it, the beauty of being a knitter, it's not difficult to modify/tailor our knits, time consuming sometimes, but can be done without too much difficulty. 😉

I would keep it long for now. Let’s see how much it keeps growing (I bet it’s because of the alpaca), I really like the length though. If it gets too long and you notice you don’t wear it, you can always frog it back a bit!

Noro Haunui, Haunui Cotton, Haunui Silk, Uchiwa, Asaginu, Haruito, Ito, Kakigori, Kashirukuru, Kureyon, Malvinas, Rikka, Sonata, Tsubame, Tsuido, Viola and Yukata are all bases without Mohair, which I also pay attention to because I find it so freakin itchy! I LOVE Noro yarns, I get that they're $$, but they have so many options that don't contain mohair that I can highly recommend!

That sweater looks amazing on you! If it was me, I would leave it as is. Maybe look at it as a "you got the sweater you needed, even if you didn't want it" kind of situation. It's very beautiful.

I really liked the noro sweater with the yellow pants but not if it means frogging! And I reckon if you'll get more wear out of low contrast, do that. Especially after all your spinning work. :) Hoping your Dad is on the improve.

Hi Kaci! I am loving your podcast episodes. I was wondering if you either have or could make a video with pattern recommendations for people new to mosaic/stranded knitting and fair isle knitting. My dream is to cast on the Mosaic Sweater by Knitting For Olive, however I have never done fair isle or mosaic knitting and imagine it would be best to start with something a bit more simple. I would love any recommendations! Thank you

I like smart wool too. I do wear my hand knit socks in my ryka boots. They are faux furlined. I had foot surgery and ever since my foot hates cotton rtw socks. They just deel bunched up no matter what. Rtw is default size 7 and I have a size 6 foot.

Hi, new viewer here from the UK, loving your projects and podcast. Agree that you should wear the Noro sweater for a while to see how you feel, but, if you want it shorter and think you’d wear it more - frog back! To me, it felt like you really wanted to frog back so if you think you’d wear it more that way….maybe get your DH to do it so its less painful for you?! The silk content might be the reason its stretched so much and maybe it would have stayed put if knit on smaller needles? I’ve knit with DeRerum Natura Gilliat and Shelter and they both have amazing yardage for worsted weight but also have stability and don’t stretch at all. Also, I knit the Snowy Forest sweater when the pattern was released - I love the cables but gave it to my daughter because I knit it a bit shorter than I should (opposite to your madara!) and felt it rode up when I wore it because of the long yoke. I also should have done the neckline like you have because it felt a bit too wide to me. Your pressed flowers shawl is gorgeous!

Your Noro sweater looks great, perfect color and so cozy ! But I got a maybe strange idea for it, I think what I would do is steek onto the ribbing on each sides to make it a split hem, maybe that would help with feeling better about wearing it long ? I guess it depends if you like that look or not and it's a bit risky. But in any case, there is no risk in leaving it long and see if you wear it.
