I've actually been looking to purchase the MM edition 3DS but they're so expensive and I found this shell before but the Amazon reviews seems to show bad reviews. What is your opinion on this shell?
But for real, who cares if It's authentic? You're not gonna contribute anything to it's preservation for having it, thousands of people have it too. Video game systems are made to be played, not to be a collector's item.
@Recordable2000 The only people who would buy a Majora's Mask 3DS would be collector's or hard-core Zelda fans. It's a 450$ handheld (system only). That's 200+ more than the Standard New 3DS XL. So yeah, a lot of people would be pissed to find out their system isn't OEM.

Gamers play games, collectors buy games just to put them on a shelf and never touch them again. They can be infuriating because they will buy a game right in front of someone who actually wants to play it just to not do anything with them. People in the west started the trend of collecting games and marking them as "rare" when in reality there are thousands of copies available. At the end of the day, it's just a 3ds with nothing more exciting than a different shell. People don't need to cause drama over it being authentic or not. You can still play it like a regular one.

I've put some custom shells on my own systems. But if I were to take a Gameboy Color and swap the OEM shell for a Japanese Pokémon Center shell and screen protector and then sell it for 500$ when I paid maybe 50$ that's a problem. That's what the original commenter was making a joke about. Selling a 3DS with an aftermarket shell and asking the authentic price. Like I said earlier the only people who would spend 200$ more for a special system rather than the regular asking price of a generic system are collectors or die hard fans who didn't get it at launch, or didnt know about the system until years down the road. But other than that small group of people, everyone else is gonna look at that price and buy the regular system instead. But when the people who want to collect or just own in general and pay that premium price and get scammed that's a problem.
Not really this shell is obviously bootleg. I bought one off Ali express which this guy did too because it looks exactly the same. The blacks are crushed on the bootleg and the gold color looks kinda jank compared to the real thing. I'd be pissed and leave the worst review on ebay if I got scammed with this.

If you can see the screws on the top half when opened. You will know its a shell swap. Either way its a new nintendo 3ds. So unless your paying over 300+. Its still a great deal.
I tried doing a full shell swap of my previous new 3ds when I was younger. I did it perfectly except for the top screen ribbon cable which unfortunately tore
I got a real one during the second wave. Mine has always had a clear TPU cover and being an adult, it is in perfect shape. It has a small chip in the paint on the ridge of the hole next to the B button, only defect. It has top and bottom IPS screen so I guess that makes it rare? I don't care, kids can sell it when I'm desd. I'm not giving it up. Sounds better that 2DS because of speaker placement.

I would love a 3ds that's completely upgraded. most of the top half being the screen 1080p with the lower half being more cleaner. The system being a complete upgrade so I can play breath of the wild or the newest version of terraria ❤😢

Don’t pry that top shell off. It slides from the bottom upwards. Prying it breaks it. Look at the tabs on it next time you have one off. You’ll see the tabs are meant to be slid into place, NOT PRYED

I bought myself the same color 3ds XL in 2023 I couldn’t find anywhere in store but I’m glad I found one at gaMestoP and it was looks smudged and dirty then when I clean it it looks like a brand new 3ds and I am gonna replace the shell from front and back into this Zelda Majora’s Mask shell

Surprised the aftermarket shell even fit on well. Most are a little off so you would see gaps or they outright can’t fit. Glad yours worked out :)

it's very difficult to get them off without damaging or destroying them but not impossible. I've seen it done with the right tools
